K. Hill, Peppers on PFF's Early-Season All-American Team
Nice to see Michigan well represented. Hoping to see more Wolverines by the end of the season.

Happy for Khalid, that's got to feel awesome
Happy for Jabrill too, but his presence on a lot of lists was a bit more expected.

Thank you. Though now I feel like I have many more questions...

Certainly, he could always try to increase his stock with another year, but he has to consider just how high can a fullback realistically go anyway? If he gets a mid-round grade this year, how much could he really improve on that by staying another year?

He can fill a ton of roles for a team: FB, Short Yardage Back, TE, H-Back, Special teams.... while he may not be drafted super high, he seems like the kind of guy who has a 10 year career in the NFL by doing a little bit of everything. Sort of like Rob Ninkovich, actually.

On the other hand, declaring early could be a big risk for a guy who's a pure fullback. Last year only trhree fullbacks were drafted, and none before the sixth round. Only two made a regular-season roster.
NFL teams just don't use fullbacks that often, so even if Hill is the best FB in the draft, he's probably not going to be guaranteed serious money. Seeing as he's only spent one year at FB, he'd probably be better served by spending another year learning the finer points of the position, to increase his chances of making an NFL roster when he does enter the draft. And there's no better coaches to teach him that than Harbaugh/Drevno.

+1 for substantial fullback knowledge

What? no Jake Butt. Clearly the best tight end in the country.

He really is and I don't think it is even close.

but lacks the ability to consistently block well. Imo, he's probably viewed more like a pure receiver because of this.

I agree, but the guy they picked has the same issue:
and while his run blocking hasn’t been up to his previous years’ standards, his receiving ability trumps his blocking for now.

has more catches, more yards, a better average, as many Touchdowns, better YAC, and a better receiving grade than Butt thanks to Butt's case of the dropsies recently.
Fan blinders in full force here

Evan Engram? It's just Devin Funchess all over again. The guy is a tight end in name only.
September 29th, 2016 at 2:17 PM ^
Hmmm. I wonder why. Maybe because Ole Miss throws the ball 50 times a game...

Anyone else see the GIF of the Left Tackle from Wisconsin (#55) in the article? Holy crap!

and yet another, that Harbaugh is turning into an NFL player.....
September 29th, 2016 at 4:16 PM ^
Tough to shine when there is an All-American TE ahead of you that may end up the best in school history.
Easy move to FB with no other options and he's a natural fit. He can run the ball, his hands are AMAZING for the position since he's really a short TE. He's picking up the blocking, not quite ahead of Poggi just yet.
His skillset is being utilized BEAUTIFULLY. But that's what Harbaugh does (and it was even mentioned on TV in one of the early games)...he figures out what you're good at and has you master it and you get on the field only to do what you're good at. The only exceptions are QB and OL since they're every down positions. Sometimes it's to a fault...for example, when #13 comes in and the crowd is going "Dooooooooooooooooooom:...who's most likely getting the ball? And it's probably on a jet sweep.
But the point is, they don't ask you to learn everything to order to earn PT, no, get really good at something, better than anyone else on the team...and we'll find a role for you. Want to play more? Get really good at something else.
We play SOOO many guys, but it's nice to know there everyone out there is probably the best option.
Anyway, no way he leaves early, but he's a leader on this team...wouldn't be surprised one bit if he's a captain next year. He'll find a spot in the NFL as a role player.

Have a feeling Jake Butt will be there at the end of the year as Speight continues to progress.
