Penn State Snowflakes: General Observations

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be the repository for your thoughts which defy categorization but yet still fit neatly into the category of hot take.

Also, people have asked about it, so if you have rebranding ideas and want to call these threads, something else, I am listening.

that's true, but I think a system like MSUS would work. they have cement/asphalt with draonage, then turf sits on modules that are linked together. water can flow through the modules and drain underneath. the modules can also be swapped out if parts of the field wear down during a season.

These threads are so much shorter now that the fan base no longer thinks it is smarter than the coaching staff. We need to study harder to get ahead of Harbaugh :)

missed the whole point of the timeout Harbaugh took on PSU's 4th down at the Michigan 49 w/ 17 seconds left.

If Michigan lets the clock run, PSU gets a free Hail Mary shot to end the half.

Genius Franklin succombed to Harbaugh and punted it away harmlessly.  If I was down 28-0, I would throw a hail mary, which if unsuccessful, would likely leave Michigan in the same position w/ maybe ~7 seconds left.  Let's see, go into halftime down 28-0 for sure, or take some small probability of going in 28-7 w/ the downside being the same small probability of going in down 35-0.

I think the increased variance w/ the Hail Marys would have increased PSU's (albeit small) chance of winning.

Their comments regarding Harbaugh's aggressiveness were obviously wrong when (1) Peppers didn't even fair-catch the punt (I think he was told not to field it and (2) he had the offense down the ball on their only play. Harbaugh had to call time out rather than allow Franklin to run the clock down to 2 seconds, call time out, and have a free shot at the endzone. Less than 10 seconds, I think Franklin should try the Hail Mary, more (like Harbaugh calling the TO with 17 seconds) and the risk is too great that too much time is left for Michigan's offense when the Hail Mary fails.

Next week, he will likely have to win the game. Clearly, Wisconsin will test him early and often. No more game management. Next week is the first real game of the season. He had a bunch of missed receivers today and a low throw caught by Hill. Too bad about Clark. Anyone concerned about next week? Go Blue.

We played well but Penn State was undermanned squad to start the game then lost two more players after the game started. We play that well against a good team I don't think we win it 49-10. Wisconsin is sneaky good; you can say all you want about how LSU farted the game away offensively but Wisconsin played hard, smart, and won. They did the same thing today. Both the Wolverines and the Badgers are coming into next week on a major high; it's definitely going to be a Big Ten kind of game. Fullbacks, tight ends, and lineman oh my!

Well shit. That sucks for Jeremy. Thoughts are with him.

Also sucks for our D. We finally get JD back so he can play slot and help with our issues against Colorado, and now we're back to having to play Watson again.

Any chance he could get a medical? I'm not sure of the rules and online I've seen varying things.

Houston will be in the Big 12 by the end of the season, which means that not only will Herman now be in a Power 5 job, but he gets a $2.5 million pay raise.  He's not going anywhere for a while.

I agree it's not a top 10 job anymore, and that'll make it tough for them to make a big splash.  The best they can hope for is a Mike Riley-type hire like Nebraska did.
