Rutgers visiting section

Submitted by Ben Mathis-Lilley on

From poking around online I gathered that the lower deck visiting fans' section in Rutgers' stadium might be 112 or 113. I called Rutgers' box office and the guy there said it's 112. However, he didn't seem to know what he was talking about. Anyone know what it actually is?

I also heard 112 but seats seem scarce or more expensive there possibly because it's the away section. We got seats in 111 (close enough?). Seemed like the best price was usually in neighboring sections like 114. I think we'll have a lot of that corner.

I went two years ago and heard about the opening game against PSU.  Apparently the Rutgers fans threw bottles and spit on the PSU folks (not that they don't deserve this to some degree).  There were numerous fights and the police had a huge presence there.

Not that Michigan is a huge rival, and the game could get ugly, that is something to keep in mind.  That said, I'll be there again although we are stayingin NYC rather than New Brunswick this time around.

I'll have to check my tickets, but section 112 sounds right.

Their secrete society of tanned bros will try and fight Michigan fans!

In all seriousness, the alumni are nice, normal people, but some of the RU students will be looking for a fight, especially when they are blown out and it's a 7pm kickoff. Just watch out and walk away.

You must be reading one of those crappy tourist guidebooks. In all seriousness, there are few "nice, normal people" in Jersey. They are not friendly. They are not happy to see you under any circumstance -- a football game, Christmas, a lavish engagement party, a Bruce concert, the Feast of St. Ann.

If you really need to see the game out there, just keep your irrepressible Michigan smugness to a minumum. Capiche?

I've been to numerous games there (including UM) and I've never seen any issues. Many of their fans are the stereotypical boisterous New Yorker but far more hospitable than several B1G crowds. Hours after the game in far reaches of the parking lot after numerous drinks might be a different situation ...

It's really not. I am a New Jerseyan and a UM grad. There are a significant number of us. You will find most Jersey people to be kind and hospitable if not provoked.

Frankly, most people in the state who bother to watch college football look up to our program and respect it. I attended the first round of this series in NJ in 2014 and - painful though it was - I didn't experience any negative fan interactions. Even the usual back-and-forth teasing that goes on was innocuous. After they blew the game we left and didn't have face any gloating or poor behavior despite being a large group of fans decked out in UM gear following what was one of the biggest wins in RU's history. Frankly, I was shocked by our experience. Given the context, I expected RU's fans to act much more offensively.

Long story short, NJ is a rather friendly place to go watch Michigan play a Big Ten game.

If you're from Jersey, and everyone is so "signifantly" "kind" and "hospitable," why were you so "shocked" nobody was beating you and your car with a golf club outside such "a rather friendly place" like Rutgers Stadium?

Seriously everyone. If you go out there for the game keep your head on a swivel. I'm trying to help.

I got my tickets through the Michigan Ticket Office and mine are in 211. They told me it was one of the Michigan sections (there are several portions of sections for visiting teams, just like we spread visotors out across the top of the south endzone). That said, I have four extras at cost if anyone is still looking for tickets. Email me at [tickets gone].

113 is the main section that the alumni club in NJ secured, but that's sold out, from what I understand.  The sections around it (112) are also going to be heavily saturated with Michigan fans and alums.
