Hawaii Snowflakes: The General Observations

This is for your thoughts that don't really lend themselves well to categorization.

Although they gave up some yards when Hawaii switched to more spread, I was impressed with how they covered the edge in the second half. I think it is a work in progress and I expect them to be good by the time they get to OSU. LBs looked great. Very encouraging. With the way the freshmen who just got off high school teams played against a D1 team, I am thrilled about the future. Best performance by freshmen in a long time. I will not be surprised if we reload next year and look as good as this year. The freshmen game made me a believer.

Onwenu's lower half is outrageous  - no wonder he is so dang strong - that lower half makes up a lot of that 350 or whatever he is. Much better it be down low than around the midsection.

On UM radio, Doug Karsch interviewed Evans. What a humble young man! Just a delight to listen to. Sort of reminded me of Denard's demeanor. I thought JH wouldn't allow true freshmen to interview?

Whatever, Chris said he had trouble sleeping last night and was very nervous running out through the tunnel. He told De'Veon about his nervousness. De'Veon said not to worry, even veterans get nervous before a game. Obviously, nerves weren't a big problem for Chris!

Glad to see the frosh on the field.  Evans & McDoom are stars.  Speight will be a star, but timing a little off on some plays.  Only issue I have is when we overplayed sometimes on blitzes when they were in the spread.  I'm sure Don will work that out.  Should be a great year.

Maybe it's the new shoes and socks, maybe it's just me, but this team looks way more athletic and physically mature this year across the board, even the freshmen. They just look faster. Must be the shoes.

Great game, so close to a shutout too. One negative observation, the halftime show mocking our opponents when doing the whole spot on recruiting band members I thought was very unnecessary. I get it that Harbaugh doesn't back down from anybody but that was just odd an not needed in my opinion.

On the other hand it was fantastic to cheer for Woodson and Woodley once again. Go Blue!

They did this whole thing where the drum major and Harbaugh went on a recruiting trip to find the 5star band recruits. During their trip they showed on the screen mock Alabama, OSU, Rutgers coaches complaining about Harbaugh et al. Essentially it was a mockery of the whole Satellite camps and how Rutgers "setup a fence around Jersey" ordeal. There were some funny moments and the band performance was great as always, it was the video portion I found less desirable. Let's put it this way, it felt like something Rutgers would put together to create rivalries. I love coach Herbaugh but this was one of his less tasteful ideas.

Michigan is good

Michigan beat a crap team the way a top 5 team should.  Liked what I saw everywhere except the o-line which was meh to sometimes good and my God we leave the middle wide open on defense expect teams to test those waters down the road.  Minor things really.  Those Freshmen are eye popping good.

Overall great day to be a Michigan fan in Michigan Stadium.

General observations: we looked damn good. Evans is legit and looks like our fastest RB in memory. Defense is pretty monstrous. This freshman class is going to be fun.

Overall, I like seeing us beat an inferior team the way elite, National Championship level teams need to beat inferior teams.

If there's one reform I wish the NCAA would take on, it would be to stop letting the TV broadcast dictate the pace of the game. The "red hat man" was absolutely intolerable today, particularly during the last half of the fourth quarter.

OBSERVATION: FOR FUCKS SAKE SECTION 24 STAND THE FUCK UP. IT'S FOURTH AND ONE AND THERE IS A SHUTOUT ON THE LINE. MAYBE ONE OR TWO THIRD DOWNS THE ENTIRE GAME WERE STOOD UP FOR. OTOH, KUDOS TO THE STUDENT SECTION, YOU SHOWED UP ON TIME AND KICKED ASS. LOVE THE DOOM CHANT.

Yeah, it just bothered me quite a bit. There are obviously a lot in our section who bring young kids, so it does make sense to me. Kind of frustrating during the game though.

I'm hoping all dinged up players who were pulled or didn't play is only precaution. Please no serious injuries.

Observation: 1) Speight seems like a time management style QB and i need to see him do more throws in this "glorified" scrimmage non conofrence games so he gets more comfortable in the pocket
2) Seems like we are going to be running the ball first then pass since we are breaki in a new QB
3) defense looks good so far, need to see them play agains a team with a pulse to say they are elite
4) JH doesnt care about red shirting, play the guys that are going to help us win PERIOD...you dont get "experience" on the sidelines but on the field.
