James Hudson Update: You don't know what you thought you knew

Submitted by Bodogblog on

Quick update.  Sam Webb said this morning on his recruiting insider update that what he's hearing coming out of the BBQ is a toss-up.  He talked to a Toledo reporter last week who knows Hudson well, and that guy thought it was Michigan.  Also says an announcement of a decision date/time during a visit is usually a very good sign.  Also that Hudson is definitively a take for Michigan, they put Rashan Gary on him at the BBQ and the coaches were all over him.

ALSO.  Sean Scherer, the 247 Sparty guy, put in a crystal ball for Michigan as of this morning.  He's typically pretty good.  And look now, Steve Wiltfong and Magnus have also turned their ballz.

Announcement coming sometime today (or IS it?)

I echo others on this - can we please put relevant information about a recruit in the thread when it's created?

Position, ranking, state, etc? IIt's great that some people follow recruiting so closely that they know all this by heart, but a lot of people don't.

You're on the internet man.  Just go to Google and type in any recruit's name followed by "247".  The top search result will almost always be his full recruiting profile with Class, composite ranking, Crystal Ball predictions, etc.  Everything you're looking for.

If that's too inconvenient, then I don't know what to tell you.

On the flip side, is it that hard to put the information in the post?

Edit: sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. If I have to use Google to find information necessary to understand the post, it's not a good post.

Come on.  The guy has been talked about frequently on this board: he's been mentioned, probably for months, in Ace's front page recruiting updates, there have been individual posts on the board about him.  He's a Michigan recruit that's announcing today.  If you don't follow recruiting enough to be aware of him, why do you care about this post?

There are degrees here, as with most things.  The post right above this talks about Michael Sparth having a new radio show - do you expect a full background on who he is and why this is meaningful?  I'm vaguely aware of Spath, but don't know exactly who he is.  I don't expect to be informed about that in the post.  Is this a guy (Hudson) someone M's never recruited before or been mentioned on this site?  If yes, an introduction is in order.  At the other extreme, did you need a position and year for Rashan Gary when there was a post updating his flirtation with Clemson the day before signing day?  If you did, then the onus is on you to get up to speed.  What about Donovan Peoples-Jones this year, would you need his position and background?

I'd say Hudson has been discussed enough that most are aware of his recruitment and Michigan's involvement, and anyone who isn't - and now finds themselves to be interested - can google on their own.  That's what I did when I wanted more info.

I checked Crystal Ball and Ace moved his CB back to Michigan this morning after the latest 247 insider news came out.  At what point does 247 say: He is a super fan who has no information on his own, but he clearly subscribes to our website and follows our insider news.

I have no issue with superfans, but you could argue that it dilutes the significance of CBs.  I think most people who follow 247 could do the same.  Maybe they could create a separate interactive superfan CB where subscribers could make their own predictions (it creates even more interaction like the message boards).  It would work similar to rotten tomatoes. You have an expert tracker and a "fan" tracker.  My assumption is that Ace would fall under the latter category.

If I understand your argument, you're saying Ace (and Brian, who share the CB) are just "superfans" like anyone else?  That's quite unreasonable given they work at and own, respectively, the most popular website on Michigan football.  They're privy to a lot more information than 247 insider boards.

Ace provided a quite detailed description of how he and Brian make their picks on the front page the other day.  I can understand some confusion in this case re. how they (and almost all others, it seems at this point) have been flipping back and forth, but they're doing quite a bit more than reading 247 and reacting.

MSU would turn into an All Big Ten DE down the road.  I'd rather Michigan does that instead.  So, since it seems the staff really wants him based on some of the comments made, I hope he goes Blue when he announces.

Anyone that does not want to play football for the Legend Harbaugh, Dr. Blitz, Coach Mattison or play along with such an outstanding young player like Gary must be certifiably crazy. He seems like a sensible young man I believe he will go Blue!
