Who is the Best Athlete you've ever played against?

Submitted by Dr. Emil Shuffhausen on

I don't remember how many yards he had against us his Sophmore

year when we beat them 8-6 on the road,

but his Junior Year he had only 67 yards on 11 carries.

It was 1989 and Saline just beat Dearborn Heights Robichaud for the

2nd year in a row for our first game of the season.

I remember watching the scout film on him with his incredibly long stride

and ridiculous speed.  How the hell we beat them 24-0 at home

will always be a prideful memory.

He was none other than my future favorite

Michigan Running Back -  Tyrone Wheatley.

Sidney Crosby. We won the game he had 1 ast. One of like 4 or 5 game they lost that year. He might be a pansy but he's a hell of a player. I didn't have any offense left I me from doing everything I could to make his life hell. Most impressive athlete I've ever seen in person is an ironman. That's insane

Played high school football against Pat Angerer (former Colts LB). He was a beast. Ran track against (high school and collegiate) a few very stellar runners as well.

Luckily it was just a game of pick-up basketball during summer term (not football...although he was all-state basketball as well)...but somehow I was assigned to guard him. All I could think was please don't accidently trip him and become the guy that took out our starting running back before the season starts. I actually out scored him and blocked one of his shots...but he got me back by backing me down and jumping straight up and around and dunking on me.

I played right tackle for my high school team, and he played both ways at tackle and defensive end for my high school's rival up the road. Needless to say it did not end well for me but it was awesome to see him start for my favorite college team, and then in the super bowl for the city I now live in.

I ran against him at states a few times. I think I saw him at the 2 mile mark when I was getting to the half mile.

Incredible runner and its cool that he's still going. I always try to keep an eye out for him when Olympics come around.

Both in the OK Red conference and my brother ran both track and cross country.

That kid was amazing though. I felt bad for the second place kid at state cross country, because he ran a respectable 14:30 or so, but Dathan ran a 14:08.

The hole Rockford cross country team was rediculous though. My brother almost had our schools record at low 16s and Rockford had I think 3 guys besides Dathan that ran in the 15s.

I'm just glad we got to beat Rockford in soccer every year, because they dominated the rest of the sports.

Well obviously he's pretty good at hoops so I don't know if he's better...my senior year (his junior year) every team we had on our schedule made the playoffs and each team had at least 2 kids getting ready to play division 1 football...he's was far and away on a totally different level than every one of them. The only one that was even close was nick mangold now with jets former buckeye. We double teamed him every single play...kid on the line to press him and our best athlete/safety who went to eastern Michigan over the top and he still had like 5 catches for 2 TD's and 125 or so yards.

I played LBJ once in basketball and that was enough. Jake Long also murdered me at Michigan's camp after I beat him on a bullshit move that would only ever work on 1-on-1 drills. Dude threw me so hard on grass I got turf burn. Also played Fred Davis in HS and he was the real deal - nation's #1 receiver before he got hurt in HS and switched to TE and USC. Maybe the most impressive for me (his team was amazing but everyone else was terrible but him).

I played a game against Ian Gold's brother in football. Played more or less to a draw, but we didn't run to my side much. I also played a couple times against Ryan Van Dyke. Really tough to stop when things broke down.

I played against Northwestern's Kain Colter and Nebraska's Kenny Bell... Granted it was pee wee football, but I still think it's pretty cool... I played with Bell later in pee wee football as he moved cities

I had the pleasure of wrestling against both Metcalf brothers in high school. I was a pretty decent wrestler, but they were both on another level. Brent handled me as a freshman when I was a senior. Was embarrassed until I saw that he handled everyone exactly like that. Both ridiculous wrestlers for Davison which was a powerhouse in the late 90s early 2000s.

My buddy was a contender in Metcalf's weight class his senior year, granted for 2nd cause..Metcalf, but my coach was quoted as saying, " yeah, Rob could beat Metcalf...with A BAT!" So funny, but true, those guys were untouchable. Shame about Chase, could have been amazing.

I wrestled Josh Churella as a sophomore in high school when he was a junior. He's currently an assistant coach for Michigan, and was a 3 time All American, including a runner up finish, for those who don't know him.

Not quite on Metcalf's level, but just barely. I knew what he was going to do and I still couldn't stop it. After hitting 4 or 5 single legs on me, he got bored and went for the pin.

That was the one guy I ever actually knew that I really though was another type of species. He did things that were so unreal, everyday in practice he made our jaws drop. The funny thing is, Jerome Harrison was better than G Money, he had a brain tumor that cut his career short. Dude, him and G used to intentionally fumble the kick return within our own 5, only to get in the huddle and call they they were about to take it 96 yards on the next play, and they ALWAYS DID!!! It was like they were just fuckin with little
Boys out there padding their stats, and to be in the huddle to hear them call it and them watch them so it was so unreal. You wouldn't believe all the Greg Jennings stories if I told them, he and JC were once in a lifetime . On that same team we had a guy named TJ smith who was 240 and ran a 22.5 200. So much talent but we list to a tough Northville team.

I was a senior and he was a freshman. We held him to 19 but DCD beat us by 31.

It seemed as though CWeb got every rebound. He was a man-child as a freshman.

Late in the game he went in for a layup, I raked his arms as hard as I could and it made no impact at all, easy bucket/3 point play.

Dude was a beast.

Kelly Baraka and Joey Sorantos. But we kicked their ass 45-27 cause we had Greg Jennings and Jerome Harrison. 7k fans at that game with 30 D1 scouts on the sideline. I was a sophomore starting at center and DE and it was a surreal experience. The most fun I have ever had whooping Barakas ass. Our RB had 300 Yds rushing and 5 TDs, of course he went on to set the record for second most rushing yards ever barely missing Jamal Lewis' record. It was such a fun game, I played against 9 D1 players and we won because we had two NFL players, and I actually had my best game of the season. After we beat them it was the greatest high I experienced in football. I felt like we won a state championship, especially considering we whooped their ass on THEIR field. So much fun, our coach gave a pre game speech that had us all either crying or ready to run through a wall. Best sporting experience of my life, including knocking off the defending state champ in wrestling and ruining his 79 match win streak. So fun.

In track and field we had a 100 meter sprint with a heat of Baraka, Jennings, Sorantos, Harrison, and this kid Darius Johnson who would beat all of them by a considerable margin. He really did look like he was floating on the track. The 4x1 relays of KC vs PN were epic. Like really epic, fucking the highlight of my athletic viewing experience, especially considering when Joey Sorantos would throw the discuss 210 feet then throw the shot 59 feet then his brother Paul would throw it like 55 feet. The only thing I saw in person that was better than Joey Sorantos' discuss throw was TJ Duckett's shot put throw, I shit you not it was like 64 feet in HS, fuckin nuts, I saw him throw a shot out of the ring and onto the baseball field at Norrix during warm up, must have been 70 feet.
