On Rutgers' "Dueling Camp" - Ash Never Responded to Harbaugh's Invite

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

This is from a free article by Steve Lorenz on 247:

An interesting addendum to the above, and one that hasn't been reported: Michigan actually originally approached Rutgers about a camp at Paramus Catholic, with an aim for a "maximum exposure" type camp that would have had over 30 staffs on board. Rutgers head coach Chris Ash told Michigan that he would consider it, but announced the joint camp with Ohio State before formally (or informally) responding to Michigan's invitation.

I am going to be very happy to see Michigan stomp Rutgers this year.

This Rutgers thing is kind of neat for those of us who were too little in the 80's to fully understand the "rivalry" between Michigan and Illinois.

It seems Rutgers is becoming our new Illinois and Ash is Mike White.

The Big Ten aside from Michigan and Ohio State was just not very good for most years between 1969 and 1980. There were some exceptions (Michigan State in 1978 comes to mind) but for the most part only Michigan and Ohio State were seriously in the running for the title.

Living in the Chicago area, it was like a plague of Illinois fans came out of the woodwork that season.  People I never knew went to Illinois or cared about anything other than basketball were totally in my face and I never got in theirs, because...Illinois.  I told them to enjoy their 1 year of success and then loved the beatings we consistently applied to them after that year.  [I'll ignore the 3-3 tie in 1985 which I didn't even need to verify because it was so damn frustrating.]

I know he's Rutgers coach and we'll definitely beat that ass come fall.  But he hates Michigan because he was taught to, very well by Urban Meyer. They don't play around down there, you hate Michigan with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind or get the hell out.

Ash is putting in place the Dantonio strategy it seems like.  Define a specific enemy, in both cases Michigan(coming from Ohio St. it's not like either man was going to pick anyone else), and build your program in opposition to said enemy.

Frankly, this pisses me off, there's no reason a "Maximum Exposure" type camp couldn't have happened, except Ash deciding he needs to be a dick about this.  The comments of the recruits he's gotten in opposition to Harbaugh have been revealing, too.

It's time to crush these assholes on the field, no letdown games allowed.

Chris Ash doesn't realize it yet, but his career is already over. Ash and Rutgers will not compete against the big 3. Even if Ash schedules non conference cupcakes, his ceiling is still only 7-8 wins tops. I doubt if Rutgers sees a season better than 6-6 under Ash in this current era of B1G football.

coaches are trying to push players to the other camp even though they signed up for the Paramus camp. I assume that's out of dislike for Paramus and possibly some Partridge hate thrown in.

Can't really blame them. What else is a MAC-level program with no realistic chance of ever winning their conference supposed to do to give the appearance of relevancy?

They are about as bad as it gets. I am sure one of their semi-fans will be starting a Michigan/Rutgers rivalry wikipedia page by the time the season rolls around.

Why am I outraged about this?  Chris Ash/Rutgers has been losing recruits to Michigan since BH*, so he did not want to camp with us.

I checked all my pockets twice, and also my socks and the lining of my jacket.  I can't find a single fuck to give about this (other than I feel bad for kids that would like exposure to both programs).  So maybe a tiny, itty-bitty, baby fuck, that will never get much bigger - since those kids will be getting good exposure at either the UofM-led or OSU-led camps.

Let them have their "Alternative Prom".   We'll just have a great time at the real prom, and get revenge through good living.

Does "BH" mean "Before Harbaugh" or "Brady Hoke"?  Or BOTH?

So instead of participating in one maximum exposure camp that would have allowed the greatest number of kids to be seen by the greatest number of coaches, they instead choose to hold a competing camp at the same time ensuring that less kids will be seen by less coaches, all to spite Harbaugh essentially?  Did I get that right?  Okay, we can formally cross off Ash and Urb as coaches who care about the kids more than themselves.

Seriously, why would Ash and Urb not want to participate in one big camp and let all the kids see all the coaches than to pull this shit just to be petty?  They look like clowns by forcing the kids to choose one or the other camp.

I think *Harbaugh* has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in *New Jersey* are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

See the story here - http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2016/05/michigan_coaches_to…

Harbaugh is going to be in Alabama that day, so he won't be in attendance.  The article doesn't say how many or which U-M coaches will be at the event.

I assume Harbaugh will be making both of the Alabama camps on June 6 and 7.  Pearl H.S. in northern Mississippi is on the morning of June 8 and the camp at Paramus Catholic in New Jersey starts in the very late afternoon.  The high school commencent address at Paramus is on June 9 (the same date when there are two camps in Ohio scheduled along with the first day of Sound Mind, Sound Body).

Another fine example of dirtbags putting their own interests in front of the interests of student athletes who would have benefitted from the chance at exposure to both camps.

Well done little OSU puppet Ash, and Urbz for going along with it.
