OT: Bought a panoramic canvas of the stadium, need help identifying the game
I recently ordered the above canvas. I'm not sure what game it is. The opponent is Maryland. I know the year is somewhere from 85-90. Anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance
September 30, 1989 @ 1:00 PM vs Maryland
Michigan wins 41-21 with 104,872 of the faithful there to witness
Maryland during the Joe Krivak years was.....exactly that.
The first game my parents took me to see at Michigan Stadium was actually the 1985 Michigan Maryland game, while the Terrapins were coached by Bobby Ross, of all people. Who knew he'd show up in Metro Detroit again - this time for a slightly longer period - around a decade later?
Whoa, man. That was my first game too. That's where my twitter profile picture is from.
1) The student section is completely full from top to bottom.
2) Note the three or four rows directly behind the benches are completely empty. Does anyone know if seats were actually sold for those areas, or did they not because of the obvious obstructed view due to these rows being at field level and blocked by each team?
Lastly, I was a student a few years after this, when the band was in section 40-41 and not the student section. I don't see where the band is located. Does anyone know if they were in that same area around this time?

This is a Michigan fan blog. We have crazy people here.
And if I saw a picture with this level of detail I could pretty much identify any game from the early 90s onward. And I am not in any way alone.
So, did we ever decide for sure whether Jay Z was actually WD aka Benn aka Discuss Man?
I see you buddy!

You know he has some attic defining when to post as whom. I'd imagine the matrix has another 9 names on it...

Jay don't you have more important things to worry about right now other than the game that's in this panoramic photo? Like Becky with the good hair? Or like not messing up with Bey again?

The best of the best. I sure miss him calling games.
I don't think it's the 85 game. I don't remember the highlight yellow "track" around the field.
We beat them 20-0. We cleared the bench in that game, all the way down to some scrub walk-on linebacker. Wooooo, blowout wins.
They were the "Beast of the East" and were supposed to beat us. Didn't happen. Our D was too good.

Given the blue sky it would appear that 1989 is more likely

than 1990.

A 27-16 win. JFK was president. NL Rookie of the year was some kid named Pete Rose.

The American flag clearly indicates winds coming out of the SW. The 1990 MD game had NNE winds, the 1989 MD game had SE winds, and the 1985 game had SW winds.

OK It's definitely not the 1985 game.
Maryland wore red britches in that game (vs. Harbaugh & Co.).
It's probably either the 1989 or 1990 game.
In the 1990 game Maryland wore all-whites (shirts and pants).
However, the 1990 game was with overcast skies start to finish.
My guess: Your photo is from the 1989 game - Michigan 41, Maryland 21. Sunny skies from start to finish.
Date | Opponent (record) | Result | Score | Site
10/3/2015 | @ | *Maryland (3-9) | W | 28 | 0
11/22/2014 | vs. | *Maryland (7-6) | L | 16 | 23
9/29/1990 | vs. | Maryland (6-5-1) | W | 45 | 17
9/30/1989 | vs. | Maryland (3-7-1) | W | 41 | 21
9/28/1985 | vs. | Maryland (9-3) | W | 20 | 0 |
And THAT's why people ask these kinds of questions on this blog.
Because no matter how obscure, someone knows.
Played Maryland at home 89 and 90. Went to both games.Hail!
Here's a couple GIFS from that 89 Maryland game...
