OT: Another player arrested for assault at Tennessee

Submitted by Leaders And Best on

Stealing a line from Steve Spurrier, you can't spell "assault" without "UT." All jokes aside, there is a huge sex assault federal lawsuit filed against the university with the Peyton Manning allegations resurfacing as well, and one of their top JC recruits gets arrested for aggravated assault before he probably had even finished unpacking.

Not to mention one of their seniors from this past season's team was just recently arrested in a child sex sting:

As someone who lived in Knoxville during the Manning/Fulmer years I'm not suprised by this one bit. I'm just suprised it took this long to be noticed nationally. That school as well as it's diehard fans and local authorities are pure crap.

Be talking about other teams and their history of criminal behavior since Michigan RANKS NO.1 in the Big10 and is in the Top20 Nationally with arrest. It's sort of like the pot calling the kettle black. Then again UM fanbase has always been n denial about the facts. Look at how you rationalize Harbaughs recruiting practices. http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/outkick-the-coverage/the-most…

Alive and well in Ann Arbor as well... http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2014/02/25/college-fo… Also, don't get mad at me because the fact is Michigan Football is a top twenty program in having Criminals, or that Michigan is willing to cover up the crimes fir its football player. I didn't create the facts, I'm just reminding the stone throwers who they really are, with the facts

This is very unfortunate for all parties involved and regardless of what school it happens at.  2 lives can be altered by events like this if they turn out to be true.  Truly, thoughts and prayers.

It's the job of the legal system to punish criminals: not the NCAA.  Committing sexual assault doesn't give anyone an unfair advantage on the field or in recruiting.  The Peyton Manning era is "old news" and well beyond any statute of limitations.

The best we can hope for is for criminals to be punished, victims to find remedy in civil court and UT to suffer a rather large "hit" on their reputation.

If they are providing an environment that enables such behavior, the school will get rid of the people doing it because it will cost them too much money down the road if they don't.

as I always thought the PSU issue was one for the criminal system.  My feelings have changed however.  If the academic or athletic wings of as school do anything to cover these activities up at the expense of justice for the victims of crimes then yeah, I think the NCAA has a role as well.

is odd how the media works.  Please understand, I am not saying that this is not a serious matter as I am sure that it is as was the matter with Manning.  But it is just odd.

Peyton Manning wins the Superbowl-Peyton Manning seen as a good ole boy - Articles resurface regarding a 20 year alleged assault - Questions result about whether Peyton Manning is a good ole boy - Allegations also surface at Tennesee regarding new issues - New allegations will be tied into the Manning story and whether this is a systemic issue at Tennessee.

This will then transition into the atmosphere at not just Tennessee, but college athletics in general - Whether or not this kind of things happens too much or all the time - By next Sunday, there will be an Outside the Lines involving sexism in sports and whether sports in fact promotes sexism and encourages sexual assault.

In this day and age, once the snowball gets rolling there will be no stopping it.

with Manning's pending retirement.  Unannounced, but given his health and age there is a lot of speculation.

He is not longer behind The Shield.

(And I am not sure why I am getting negged.  I don't think my post was the least bit disrespectful to anybody, was just commentary on the modern media.  Jeez people).

EDIT - IMPORTANT EDIT - I did not see the second story relating to the child sex allegations when I wrote my first post, only clicked on the first link.  This renders my first post borderline inappropriate and really inapplicable.  My bad.  Please accept my apology and thoughts and prayers go out to everybody.

You didn't post anything inappropriate.  This issue causes a lot of thin-skinned people to overreact and become violently hysterical or hysterically violent.

And if you don't join the lynch mob, you become a target.

is that if you don't want student athletes to be involved in assaults, then maybe the University of Tennesee shouln't admit students.

Plenty of blame to go around.

I remember seeing a picture of Donnie Corley on a visit to Tennessee called Orange Carpet Day for their top recruits.  There were some co-ed girls present in the picture that he took (I can't find it ATM) and looking back that just seems like a really bad idea..

I have no idea if those particular girls were included in the rest of the visit by showing the recruits around campus or something like that but perhaps that's where some of the entitlement came from?  Maybe girls were the expectation for some of these guys.  Who knows. Neg my speculation.

That Mack Crowder child sex thing is super creepy and disturbing, especially since Mack Crowder himself is a baby-faced dude who looks like a 12 year-old's head attached to a 23 year-old man's body.

This has been big news down here for the past week or so. A Pinellas County detective posed as a 14 year old online and baited him to come down here from TN and meet. Polk county detectives do this a lot too... It seems like our LE busts someone from out of state like this every other week.
