Rashad Weaver Decommits

I'm sure there will be more mudslinging from this one.
EDIT: For those who didn't click the link, he says that JH says they didn't know if they would have room for him and ultimately offered him a PWO. He does thank JH and UofM for the opportunity. Not as bad as Swenson, but some will overreact to it.

Negative recruiting press isn't exactly a flashing sign that reads, "WE ARE BACK".
January 25th, 2016 at 10:14 PM ^
So we keep recruiting like we have been - "The Right Way" and settle for 3rd place in the B1G East every year? GTFO.

Best of luck to him. He didn't make the cut and understands that in sports not everyone is going to make the team and get a trophy. I also do not know the whole story, so I have no opinion on if it was handled correctly or not. I do feel bad that he won't be able to come to Michigan. But there are other players who were not cut, so they must have shown something, that the coaches felt warranted a spot in this class.

This happens in almost every P5 program
Weaver has been taking visits at other schools. Hard to say you're committed to Michigan when you're doing visits at other schools. I don't think it's realistic to think there won't potentially be repercussions when you say one thing and do another.
I have zero issues with this and like how Harbaugh is maximizing this class.

There is absolutely nothing that even suggests that's what is going on let alone makes it "obvious" that it is.

but how is this "obvious"? What makes you think this is how it went down?
January 25th, 2016 at 10:05 PM ^
Harbaugh was brought here to win championships and to beat OSU. While I really hope this does not become a growing trend for Harbaugh's recruiting classes in the future, as its not a good look, but it is what it is. You look at guys like Saban and Meyer, who've been known push the envelope as far as it can go, but they do it to put the absolute best team on the field and win championships. And they're both pretty damn good at doing that. There's a reason you don't see guys like Bill Snyder and Mike Riley hoisting crystal footballs.
College football should not be this way, but to think its not a business is living with your head up your ass.

I too agree with this opinion and verbally support it. I also show my agreement with a click of the green triangle.

Same thing as the Swenson recruitment. For years people have held this total BS standard that recruiting should be done the "Right Way". The kids being recruited can visit any school they so choose, even after having committed to a school. When they change their mind because something better comes along, people don't get their panties in a wad over that. There's no outrage from the fanbase for the Vic Viramontes of the world. I'm not advocating there should be, just that when the roles are reversed, there is only the "Damn, wish he was in this class" type of posts.
Jesus people - Jim Harbaugh doesn't take second place when first place is available. If what he decides is the best fit for the program is Player A over Player B, then the only thing you have to bitch about is the result of his decision. That result will be measured in program success, and not in how many fucking feelings he hurt along the way to that success.

Rashad Weaver was never good enough to play at Michigan. That's why he has offers from Colgate, Mercer, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Lafayette. The staff probably should never have offered him, or at least made it clear that the offer was conditional.
That said, the outrage here is absurd. Instead of getting a free ride to Michigan, he's going to get a free ride to another FBS school to play football. Is that really a tragedy that warrants an article in the Chicago Tribune and Detroit Free Press? Dear Lord.

Just because Harbaugh didn't want him doesn't mean he can't play. His tweet was raw emotion, but unlike Swenson, he gave the facts, expressed disappointment, and thanked the fans. I can see why he was accepted by Ivy League schools. Very mature response. Unlike Swenson, I will be rooting for him to succeed.
January 25th, 2016 at 11:41 PM ^
I'm not attacking him. I'm just pointing out what should be obvious - he is not good enough to play for major programs. That's why none have offered him.
If you want to beat Alabama, you don't take commitments from two-stars with Ivy League offers.

Touch the Banner's take is interesting. He says that Weaver has been working hard to improve and that he has in fact improved. That's different from Swenson, who has slacked off (according to Michigan's side of the story).
Guys like Weaver end up being the out of nowhere guys who get drafted. I'm not saying he's going to make the NFL, but you shouldn't count out a hard working, smart player.

Let's not start a fire where there is no smoke. It's pretty obvious there is nothing here we all didn't know about. We have been talking attrition for at least a couple month's now and everyone here had him at or near the top of the list. He has been taking visits elsewhere, crystal ballz have him going to Temple and I'm sure that he was taking taking visits because he knew this was a possibility.
I wish he wasn't upset about it because he did say his position was 50/50 and he understood that it was business. He was offered a PWO (if the education part of it was important) and sometimes having the opprtunity to compete against high level competition is all anyone can ask for.
There are no guarantees in life except one. If Harb. doesn't do well at his job he will be fired!!! Beest of luck to Shad, I hope he succeeds in what ever he chooses and Michigan folks need to stop the negative posts because we all know its business too.

He admitted being told his chances were 50/50. That means there was a chance he would not be a part of this class. He posted how he truly felt, and you can't fault him for that. He's disappointed but the fact that he was told there might not be a spot for him is good enough for me.
Criticize Harbaugh all you want, but he's not hiding the ball.

The perception of this way of handling commits is going to have ramifications for Harbaugh and Michigan. So, Harbaugh will have to deal with them. For one thing, at the NSD press conference, he is going to be asked about it. So, he better have some response that is credible. Of course he may also choose to not answer the question. That will not be a good look IMO. Also, high school coaches of these kids may be less apt to recommend kids in the future to consider Michigan. So it could be counterproductive in establishing new pipelines.
January 25th, 2016 at 10:39 PM ^
Harbaugh's response will be "I'm honest and open with recruits about where they stand. Some of my offers are conditional. I'm all about competition. But I stress academics, my players graduate, and I never cut a guy before he gets a degree. Next question."
