What do you think Don Brown's "significant changes" are?

Submitted by BornSinner on

I remember the on-field guy sharing some of Don Brown's thoughts during the game, and he mentioned Brown saying significant changes would be coming soon.

Anybody wanna guess as to what they might be?

I'm sure he looked at our linebacker play and cried a bit deep down. Idk what else can improve that other than better recruiting tho.

An announcer on some NFL game mentioned that Belichick likes to practice batted ball drills with his players. Maybe getting used to fluky oblong bounces would help turnover margin.

I think we will see lots of disguised blitz packages, additional stunts up front and lots of press man to man in the secondary, cover 2.  I hope that there is still a big emphasis on tackling.

BTW, I hope that Willie Henry comes back, however I have a feeling that he will leave for the draft based on his position (which is one of need in the NFL) as well as his comments yesterday after the game which were very "telling".   Willie said something like "its been great playing with these guys for 4 years...."  Its not official, but I think he is gone.

My guess/hope is that the "significant changes" involve personnel. Wouldn't be surprised if work had already started in this direction during bowl practice. My worry is that he wants to reinvent the wheel when it doesn't need reinventing. Michigan needs to stop the spread gun run scheme to beat OSU, so there needs to be work done there, but the scheme we run is otherwise perfectly suited for the personnel and opponents. I believe the fact that Durkin ran similar concepts to Mattison was a strength of the D this year. I guess we'll see. I've grown less sanguine about the hire since it was announced, but it might just be me. And the smoldering crater that is our LB lineup.

I mean who cares if we shut out Maryland but then get torched against OSU. We need to stop the OSU (and soon to be Rutgers, Maryland) running spread and the only way to do this is change our scheme. Maybe 3-4? Who knows, but that's my guess as to the significant changes.

Brown played Clemson and FSU while DC of BC, so he has seen that spread before.

Some opposing QB's get the crap sacked out of them. I want to see them so afraid to play us that they're literally vomiting on the sideline before they take the field. I don't think that's asking too much.

Fuck you.

We gave up ONE touchdown because of a penalty for too many men on the field when they went hurry up on 3rd down.

Then we stonewalled them at the goalline and they had to pull a trick play out of their ass to get it in from the 3. Meanwhile, every time we got it that close we just ran them the fuck over.

Mattison called a gem. If you think Brown would've done any better, you've lost your mind. That game was a thing of beauty versus a quality opponent.

I love your posts Mr. Yost.

I must confess that I have not seen the team a whole lot in the last 6-8 years. Busy on the road and a lack of masochism in my system tends to do that.

But when there is a reason to watch I devour it when I can and I knew about a year ago that this was gettin ready to be a historic time for my only sports addiction left.

I love that GMatt was retained. However I have heard many knowledgable people - several of them on this site who say that GMatt plays this bend but don't break style. I saw that early in the first half and I saw CB's playing 10 yards off rcvrs.

I don't want to see that style, I don't like it. I don't think the players like it. They all love Mattison and so do I.

I just don't want to see bend but don't break defense. I want to see attack defense and I'm glad that's what we'll be getting.

A cursory glance would suggest so, but this is my deal:

When my son (who bleeds Maize n Blue like me - whom I once took to the Big House the day before game day and kept going past non-existentent security til we were on the turf on the 50 yd line when he was about 3) was jumping on the Speight bandwagon after the Minny game I talked him down from the ledge - cuz yano JH knows best.

When he hated the RichRod hire I tried to get him to stay the course because well, some things are out of our hands and we got to trust the Blue powers that be til they show us they're untrustworthy.

When he loved the Hoke hire cuz yuno It's Michigan fergodsake - well I wasn't totally sold.

I loved watching Shoelaces run around when I could spend time watching the games but I knew that this wasn't the Meecheegan that I was waiting for.

When it was whispered that JH may be coming I was skeptical but hopeful - cuz he's the guy i wanted since Lloyd started talking about leaving.

Call me bandwagon if it makes you feel better - but when there is a reason to pay attention I will put my powers of observation up against anyone's and there ain't no other team that will ever do it for me.

i will hazard a guess of installing major zone blitz schemes. someone is going to get the chance to be a star coming off the edge and ripping QB's apart. and offensive snaps aside, i think they do find a true position for peppers. i think he could be even more effective if he didnt have to know 3 or 4 or however many positions he actually lined up at on d.

Hopefully he does an MGoBlue interview soon.

I want to get to know him first before we jump into the next phase of this undefined relationship thingy.

I mean, like... whatever...

He may have been talking about getting the golf visor off Peppers' head and a winged helmet onto it.

Anyone else notice that Peppers seemed to have just as much fun on the sideline as he would have in the game? Love his spirit.

Four shutouts instead of three?

EDIT: sorry, I thought this immediately and posted it without reading to see someone had said something very similar already. Lazy!

The comment sounded less drastic than is implied here. He mentioned that he had no input on the Bowl game but he will hit the ground running right after the game.
