Does Sam's connection to the staff generally have as much to do with his practice evaluations as it seems to with his recruiting updates? Wonder how much of this is staff opinion.
I posted this here because of the DIPG connection to Chad Carr, and it seemed to be a subject that many cared about. Dunno what else to tell you there.
I guess I imagined how bad he looked while winning those games. I don't expect perfection, but it was very ugly at times last year. While there are many factors at play, seeing him miss throws all year that should be made by a true frosh is uninspiring. Much like the first part of rudock's year. If he hadn't pulled it together, it would have been a different memory of him too.
Just curious, have you considered there are people who are very uninspired by speight? I don't think he's a good QB. I think the team is better served having the young guy go if he is ready. Why are you such a speight homer?

They are in situation not unlike Michigan rt now. Their oline is very uncertain, the defense has lost a lot of talent and they NEEEEEED a difference maker at running back.
For the record, guys on the edge of the internet with connections have been making quiet allusions to him coming for over a week now. He could always change his mind, but as of now I believe he is coming to Ann Arbor
Don't really see how these stats are relevant. We can beat Ucf and Rutgers with very little at qb. In every big game he struggled. And I'm not saying he didn't makes some plays against osu. But two picks and a fumble at the two. This is what qbs sign up for. Obviously harbaugh felt more confident turtling in the msu and osu game instead of continuing to press the pedal to the floor, which to me is a red flag as he is always throttle down.
There is no way the current iteration of speight that I saw against Iowa, Wisconsin and anyone else with a pulse defensively carries us as a young team next year. He needs to improve ALOT or I would personally rather have peters in there. If speight is just gonna bog us down I'd rather the rd frosh got his feet wet.
Terrible throws is right. He makes the difficult throws, but misses too many easy ones that sustain drives. Like the old basketball adage of being "too open" and that is a drive killing tendency. It seems to me that he almost half asses the easy throws. The late throws are the ones that say he needs to continue to progress in the scheme and all that. the other throws where he has time to think and throws a 15 yard ball into the turf at a wide open receivers feet, that is concerning. Should be the most automatic throw he makes. It's also the extension of the run game that is needed when facing tougher defenses.
are any of the offensive line prospects out there with a chance to start next year if we get them? We will have Cole, newsome, bredeson, and maybe onwenu left as what I'd call guys we are high on. Dunno about ulizio or spanellis. After that it's a bunch of dudes that have never been good enough to crack the lineup. Seems like a bad spot to be in, especially since all the redshirt seniors currently starting are very "meh". Obviously referring to prospects we actually have a chance to get.
Men's and women's game have both been weak for quite some time. That her recent streak of dominance started well into her 30's illustrates this quite nicely. That no one is coming up and even consistently being number two is disturbing for the sport.
Am I alone here in thinking the real surprise is that they
A) didn't already have this in place and;
B) they felt the need to pass this anyway when they will just hide the shit that goes on anyway.
I don't know the kid, but being he is from my hometown, his family is probably pretty well off. Not surprising since he doesn't "need" football like a lot of less fortunate kids do
I'm not sure how much to attribute to the caris injury, but it is pretty apparent to me that they do not care about playing defense. Defense is about effort. There is always the opportunity to run up against a more talented team that you can't match up against, but I dont think you can claim that when you are getting run out of the gym and you have Bryn Forbes launching wide open 3's. I won't claim to have been wasting my time watching these debacles, but I know defense is effort. And effort is motivation, desire and a sense of accountability. Looks to me like we are missing at least one of those ingredients, if not all 3.

On another front, for anyone who is tied in with recruiting, for all these kids that don't want to play school,how does urban continually get the qb's that he does when he has no track record of producing successful nfl qb's other than alex smith?

And he wasn't talking about Austin mack's recruitment either. If you are calling what partridge mentioned and what fisch put out the same thing, then I think you are horibbly confused. Selling is about pointing out why your product is better than the other guys product is.
For example, if a car salesman tells you his model has a v8, but the competitor's car only has a v6, that's not negative. That's him telling you why his is better.
????? Pointing out all the nfl experience on our staff, and the lack of it on theirs, is not negative recruiting.
Otoh, if someone at michigan was sending flyers saying osu's offense will destroy your chances at the nfl, that's a different story.

Maybe harbaugh liked the kid and didn't want to crush him or his dream, but tried to gently nudge him out. And he would not get it. Like a 35 yr old who never moved out of mom's basement. Plus, he has more value in other's eyes as a michigan commit than someone that got dumped.
And you might never know. But still you are judging it to be unseemly or inappropriate. Which I can't understand.
So he gave him a token re offer. It was always contingent on him proving himself. Thinking otherwise is just not realistic.
