Report: Michigan to play LSU in citrus bowl (source provided)

The Detroit News says that we'll be taking on LSU. Most of us knew it was a possibility and is still pure speculation, but I haven't seen anyone post a semi-good source if any at all. A Louisana talk show host claims to have spoken with representatives of the citrus bowl. Should be a fun game to watch. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/201…

He'll be at home with Texas that day. I heard he lives in Maryland, has a roommate with the last name Richt? Also by then he will have decommitted and committed to Illinois, thanks mostly to their wildly successful season which includes a bowl game. So make sure you pick up a nice orange and blue sweatshirt on your way to pick him up!

He article is just speculation not fact. Either way LsU is not OSU or Indiana they play entirely different offenses. If we load up the box we should be able to force them to throw. The defense is not all that great either they have given up a lot of points to everyone they've played. Even Florida scored a lot and almost beat lsu in the lsu. If we score early and go up they will be forced to pass. I'm not sure why anyone wants to go up against floridas defense

FWIW, I literally spoke with a rep at Florida Citrus Sports this morning. I used to work at UCF and I have plenty of contacts in Orlando...this one in particular, is a true friend. As in "in the wedding" close. Not just some guy I know.

I know that Florida Citrus Sports Committee extremely well...not only do I know the person I'm referring to, but also the wife of the head baseball coach at UCF works for Florida Citrus Sports.

My point is...I've got some folks I can trust.

That said, at this time no decision has been made...it's all speculation. I think we can safely assume it'll be LSU or Florida. I still think it'll be Florida unless I'm told otherwise, but with all of the media attention Les Miles is getting, I wouldn't doubt for a second that one of the higher ups said "nope, it'll now be LSU...besides the last time we had Michigan, it was against Florida."

That seems like the same thinking I'd have if I was in that position. They're both good matchups, but if I'm picking...I'd rather have LSU because of the Miles/Michigan connection and all of the buzz LSU has in the media at the moment. Selfishly as a Michigan fan, I want UF because I think we can beat them 35-10 and I'm not even joking.

...is strong authority. Would you disagree? Maybe you would.

It's not like it's some intern in the mailroom (no disrespect to our MGoMailroom Interns).

Like I said, I do have it on strong authority. That's not to say something changed. But as of this morning, I was told directly that Michigan/UF was what it was going to be. And the person I was told, isn't just "someone I know." Is the point. I hate when people do that...my cousins, brothers, dogs, friends, aunties, nephew, who ones met so-and-so.

My point about speculation is because it IS speculation right now. Nothing can be set in stone because we don't know what's going to happen with the playoff. That's where I was going with that comment.

If UF somehow beats Bama, then everything would change.

Also, even if UF loses, if UF got picked up by a NY6 Bowl, then that would change everything as well. So it's out of anyone at Florida Citrus Sports' hand at that point.

So no one can say "THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING"...Florida could end up as an at-large in a NY6 and that could put someone else in the Citrus. Hell, the B1G could get shut out of the NY6 bowls and push OSU or the MSU/Iowa loser to the Cirtus Bowl and Michigan to the Outback.

So can I give you a 100%? No. No one on this earth can. But I can say, if given the chance, right now...I'm told FCS would take Michigan/Florida as their matchup.

Barkley =\= Fournette, and that's not even close.

Fournette is right up there with Elliott and Henry as being one of the best RBs in the country. If we don't have Glasgow back for that game, I see almost no way that Fournette doesn't rush for at least 200 yards. And even if we have Glasgow back it'll be really tough sledding.

Les Miles is not stupid. Les is installing the very schemes that osu & IU gashed us with. LSU has a mobile QB, and a HUGE offensive line. I definitely would of preferred to play UF.

I trust Harbaugh will have the team ready, I'm just wondering what Durkin will do if LSU does indeed run some spread option / pistol. If Durkin attempts to defend the option with the 3-3-5, Leonard Fournette will run for 300 yards.

I am not being dramatic, I have watched LSU 6-7 times this year, and Fournette is essentially Elliot / Howard with more power.

Also, LSU is a fairly stout defensive team that had a few struggles down the stretch. I'm not a fan of this matchup, and ultimately I see us finishing 9-4 with a 31-20 type loss.

I've personally watched LSU run some spread option this year. To think LSU won't try and do exactly what IU & OSU did against us is just stupid and would be horrendous coaching. Michigan has faired much better vs pro style teams, so I would think LSU will certainly become hybrid for a game.

There is a difference between trying to do it after a month of installing it (and in LSU's case breaking it out as a play every now and again) and have it as a basic part of your offense where you rep it constantly and really master it. PSU tried to do it too but it didn't work for them.

I want the opponent that bringsw the most prestige.  Florida is hot garbage, do not want to play them.  Ole Miss might crush us and they aren't as big of a name as LSU.  LSU is a good story line and we get to play Miles and Fournette.

People will focus on Fournette, but that LSU defense is still insanely athletic and physical.  They are tough to run against and you know they'll have amazing team speed.
