I honestly don't know what jobs are all that much better than Maryland for someone like Durkin. Unless you stick around as a coordinator for a loooong time and are extremely successful, like Kirby Smart successful, jobs in the Georgia tier will not be available. Top 20 programs simply do not hire coordinators with no HC experience unless they are in-house promotions.
What is really in between the Georgia tier and the Maryland tier? What better job will Durkin be able to get? If I'm him, I would absolutely take it if offered.

I agree that it's about at the highest level you can expect to get with his experience. The main drawback is the brutal competition in the division. He might be able to get a similar job in a less-competitive conference/division.

Honestly, I'd think Miami is a much more attractive job than Maryland.

Just a couple thoughts.
I'm not sure I like the idea of Maryland getting any sort of competent coach being that I enjoy a nice and easy win every year. The B1G East is tough enough as is, we don't need a good team there, unless we throw them in the other division. That would throw off the term "West" however.

you are in the minority.
Big Ten East is already super hard. Why would a Michigan fan want another 9 win program in Michigan's division? Gotta have some near automatic wins in the division to balance out OSU, MSU (good as long as Dantonio is there and with Narduzzi the heir apparent), PSU (which will get it together sooner or later).

I'm with you. I'm a Michigan fan but I get no pleasure out of beating weak teams. I like to be entertained when I'm watching Michigan play. I like seeing Michigan play top notch competition. What makes the SEC West entertaining is that every game within the division is for the most part competitive. Auburn finished 7th in the West this year but still gave #1 Alabama a run for its money. And yet despite the intense competition, Alabama almost always wins the division.
I don't see why a similar situation (perhaps not to the same degree) couldn't exist in the B1G East.. At the end of the day, Michigan is going to be more talented than every team in the East save for Ohio State. Therefore, most years Michigan is going to beat a Richt coached Maryland. It will just make the game more entertaining if RIcht is able to elevate Maryland into a 8 or 9 win team.

Richt to Maryland is better than Durkin to Maryland but still not good. Richt is a good to very good coach. He could definitely raise Maryland up to 8 to 9 wins a season. And where is the link to this?
November 30th, 2015 at 8:57 PM ^
Richt could turn Maryland basically into current day UGA.
8-4, possibly 9-3 with some consistently decent bowl games. I'm fine with this as he was fired because he couldn't win bigger games or get into the NC discussion. I don't think this is a quick fix though.

Not saying that Richt would take the Maryland job, but Richt's former AD at Georgia (Damon Evans) is an associate AD at Maryland. He was also an associate AD at Georgia when Richt was hired. Just throwing that out there.
November 30th, 2015 at 9:19 PM ^
Yes, and from what I've read, those two hated each other. Internet wisdom and all, but it seems to me Damon Evans is the reason Richt won't end up at Maryland rather than the reason he will.

about Damon for "holding panties to be a good friend" WWJD?

Would like the band to stay together for at least one more album. At the same time, nice to have such quality on the staff that they are serious candidates for HC jobs. Oh, and fuck OSU and MSU. Not relevant, just needed to be said again. Go ahead and add ND to that list while we are at it.

If Richt does go to MD, B1G East would easily be the division with the best coaches in the country, especially if Rutgers can manage a decent hire. Can you imagine? Harbaugh, Meyer, Dantonio, Franklin, Richt, and even Wilson who's building IU up.
