It fits their colors, mascot, and university seal, and it's appropriate to NorCal if not to Palo Alto itself. Robber Barons is funny, but I think most people wouldn't get the reference.

"Fighting Hawks" is so generic. UND should have gone with Roughriders or Flickertails or something else geographically appropriate.

The Cleveland Indians, The Atlanta Braves. Honestly the list is vast. Do these other franchises, teams etc not catch any heat? I don't seem to remember any clamor over Cleveland or what about FSU? Also, St. John's was once the Redmen, prior to changing to the Red Storm.

I'm going to sue the shit out of Hope College unless they change their name.  Flying Dutchmen IS SO OFFENSIVE

I actually do find Notre Dame's name and mascot to be relatively offensive.  A drunken, red-faced, short, brawling Irishman doesn't raise a few red flags somewhere in your mind?  I really don't like my heritage being associated with a derogatory stereotype.

Especially by a bunch of damned papists!

/s on that last line.

Yep, that is exactly the same, because everyone knows that our country has had a long history of killing dutch people and forcing to live on reservations. Oh wait, nope that never happened, so not the same as what happened to native americans. Hope college is also pretty much full of Dutch people and run by Dutch people, so not the same there either.
