Michigan #12 in CFP Rankings

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

OSU - #3

Iowa - #5

MSU - #9

(Michigan is now the second 2-loss team as they're behind #11 Stanford. That said, the Wolverines will jump Stanford with a win over OSU, and assuredly with a win over Iowa).

I will cackle with glee if the Big 12 screws itself:

- Baylor beats Oklahoma State and TCU, but loses to Texas to finish 7-2 in the Big 12.
- Oklahoma loses to TCU, but beats Oklahoma State to finish 7-2.
- TCU loses to Baylor, but beats Oklahoma to finish 7-2.
- Oklahoma State loses to Baylor and Oklahoma to finish 7-2.

is Stanford being ahead of us, they lost to Northwestern and we crushed that team, I think we should have been at 11 and Stanford at 12, otherwise I'm okay with everything else at this point.

....is about Notre Dame not Mich.

In the end if we are both 2 loss teams we go or both of us go if the B12 cannibalize happens.

Still don't mind our position especially since Iowa is getting the respect.

How is the old bowl system superior to this? The BCS was awful and gave us the LSU Bama championship game crap fest. Last year, the championship game would have been Bama vs FSU, and Bama would have rolled them, continuing the "SEC dominance." Instead, we got a true champion.

Beat the Pennsylvania State University first before we get caught up in playoff conversation!  The boys in blue have a tough task ahead of them in PSU and OSU!  Win these two games then we can speak about playoff position.  Let's bring this narrative back to reality.  We always seem to look ahead way to often.  Go Blue!!!

We haven't played like the #12 team in the country the last two games. I actually think we played alright against State, despite the result, but vs. Minnesota and Indiana were the worst games of the year along with week 1 vs. Utah. Well, we still have a chance to prove something in the next two weeks.

I don't get why the playoff committee has all this love for Stanford. Stanford lost to NW, a team that we absolutely hammered. Then Stanford gets beat by an Oregon team that, while getting better, has an atrocious defense and a bad loss vs wazzu.

Michigan's 2 losses, one, a miracle last play fluke to #9 and on the road to #13 by a TD in the first game of a new staff.

I guess at the end of the day I'm just splitting hairs. It is good to actually be in the discussion of the top 10 again.

Next years team should be better on defense with exception to the linebackers (experience wise). I'm interested to see what the offense does next year, especially at the QB position. O'Korn, Speight, Gentry, and Peters will all have a shot at the job. I'm interested to see what happens at RB & TE as well.

I hope FSU beats Florida and then Florida beats Alabama in the SEC championship game. I want to see the SEC left out of this year's playoff.

When OSU beats Sparty and we win out we're easily in. If Stanford beats ND then I think that opens the 4th spot for the best Big12 team instead of 2 loss Stanford.

At this point I'm just taking a step back and:

  1. Appreciating where we are compared to last year.  At the start of this season, the grounded/realistic projection for a very good season was anywhere from 7-5 to 9-3.  Worst case now we are going to hit the middle of that projection, and we've got a solid shot of hitting the upper range or even exceeding that projection.  At this point I don't care if we squeak into the final 4 playoffs or not.  We've already secured ourselves a respectable bowl game, and if things shake out--even w/ a snub from the committee--we may get a NYE 6 bowl game.  Outstanding by any measure.
  2. Appreciating the long-term prognosis of the team.  Harbaugh pulled this off with basically the same players that Hoke had.  Once he gets 1-2 more years of "his" players in, and also installs the rest of "his" playbook, the sky's the limit.  Last year we were losing high ranked recruits mid season due to our poor performance.  Now we're in a position to potentially cherry pick great recruits from floudering programs mid-season ourselves.

Some time soon my expectation will be to win the Big Ten & to make the final 4 playoffs, and if we don't we will have fallen short of our goals.  But not this year.  This year I wanted relevance and a clear upward trajectory in terms of the "eye test."  And no matter what happens from here on out, we've already accomplished that.

For me, the 2015-2016 season was all about raising our "floor" back to what a traditional power's "floor" should be, and we've already accomplished that.  Anything beyond that is gravy in my mind.
