were not going to cover the spread last week then!

Whooooo!
Wait. What?
October 16th, 2015 at 9:54 AM ^
I work with lots of statistics, and write lots of academic-y papers that no one reads. One day, I plan to write a paper, present the results of my complex statistical model (my bread-and-butter), explain what the model predicts will happen, and then close by saying, "well, even though the numbers say X, I predict the opposite will happen!" I will then begin looking for a new line of work the next day.

Underappreciated post

for sparty, I hope that Harbaugh is using them for motivational tools as well.
Get it? Sparty...tools.... HA!
Ahem, I'll go now....
October 16th, 2015 at 9:15 AM ^
Picking Sparty is the hot pick now, to show how cool you are and not influenced by . . . reality.
October 16th, 2015 at 9:33 AM ^
Anyone picking us by 17 or expecting it to be close to that is, well, over excited. I will be elated with a one point win.
October 16th, 2015 at 9:52 AM ^
It's going to be more than that.
October 16th, 2015 at 10:01 AM ^
but of course i'm maybe the only one on here who saw this season coming. 2-3 years my ass
October 16th, 2015 at 11:01 AM ^
Did we already win tomorrow? Whew. That's a relief......
The downside to a succesful season is all the Nostradamus wannabes that start thumping their chest around the board.

Maybe it's because I come from a generation that actually saw great (or at least consistently above average) Michigan teams year in and year out. Consistent offensive line play, hellacious defenses. I saw Michigan teams that didn't get bullied...ever. Teams that won (mostly) the games they should win and in the 90's in particular won against tOSU when they were forecast not to win. This is the direction Harbaugh is moving...toughness, not bullied, nastiness, hellacious defenses. Maybe this informs my thinking...
Three shutouts in a row validate it. Harbaugh is great and this team is very, very good.
I'm tired of the pollyanna approach following the PTSD of the last 7-10 years. Oh noes, Michigan might win...we better not acknowledge it... "bulletin board material" "Hoke started 4-0", "11-2 Sugar Bowl" and on and on.
You have arguably the best coach in football, an elite motivator, NFL level assistants, the number one (1) defense in the country and an opponent who hasn't played anyone with a defense in the top 65. I'll take my chances calling a Michigan win.
Based on your logic why the hell do we even have a predict the score thread or Brian's preview.
To quote Dennis Green: "If you want to crown them then crown their ass"

Nicely said. The nervousness about openly predicting a Michigan win is silly.
HARBAUGH - 31
MSU - 7

To me, this looks like the 2013 game but with the sides reversed. Going into the game, we had been winning but looking shaky on both sides of the ball. MSU had been winning (like us this year, they had one close loss on the road) with a dominant defense. Most observers didn't give us much of a chance to beat them in their house, and sure enough they kicked our butts.
If we had been doing what MSU's done this year (24-21 over Purdue, 31-24 over Rutgers, etc) and they had been doing what we've done (3 straight shutouts, etc) no one would seriously expect us to beat them. The only reason anyone's picking Sparty is because "MSU owns Michigan". (Never mind that we won the last time it was in Ann Arbor.)
October 16th, 2015 at 9:42 AM ^
I'm hoping that this team is mature and hungry enough that they don't need motivational tricks to be ready to play.

Lots of Sparty trolls signing up. Guess we are back.
October 16th, 2015 at 9:55 AM ^
I'm not sure we ever went away when it comes to Sparty trolls.
October 16th, 2015 at 9:05 AM ^
I'll take the computer over yet another delusional clown who doesn't realize that if Michigan hadn't bumbled the last two coaching hires, Sparty never would have risen to the level they're at now.

He picks games vs the spead every week, and has a good record. Not saying he's right here but his opinion is worth listening to.

Phil Steele is an idiot.
October 16th, 2015 at 12:39 PM ^
Objectively wrong. Check out his picks against the spread every week on ESPN. Both straight up and ATS his record is good. And he puts together information in that magazine that is totally thorough. He's wrong like anyone else, but idiot he is not.

Phillip J. Steele is just a man who does stuff.
Nothing more, nothing less.
HARBAUGH!

you believe that show was renewed for two more seasons. Don't get me wrong I think it is hilarious(even though it has markedly declined the last three seasons), but that makes it one of the longest running comedy series of all time I believe. Seasons 11 and 12! Wow.
October 16th, 2015 at 10:23 AM ^
No way! Tha show has gotten better and better! Flowers for Charlie?!?
October 16th, 2015 at 10:41 AM ^
was "the Gang goes to therapy" and that was a while ago. There was one that was specifically focussed on Mac a season or so ago that was memorable but I can't specifically recall the episode.

Eh, no question they have not played up to their ability yet, and it's not unreasonable to think that we won't be able to sustain our ridiculous defensive numbers. If the offense is forced to carry the load more, it will likely be a close game.
It's also hard to discount the fact that they're played above their talent level in this game for the past 15 years or so. They're going to be ready, and it's going to be a fight. I think Michigan will probably win, but it's not unreasonable in the slightest to pick State.

This times a million.
My model says Michigan by 17 but I think it's wrong by at least 18 points.
Who does that?
