OT: The Magnus Effect
Psych! #sorrynotsorry
I thought this was a cool demonstration of the Magnus effect:

The video was pretty informative and worth checking out if you liked what you saw above:
Anyone who knows more about physics/alternative energy/general what-have-you please feel free to chime in!
EDIT: Evidently y'all are sensitive to the fact that things going viral get posted here. Besides which, science-y things get posted around here all the time. It's still the OT-season and I checked to make sure it hadn't already been posted. I found it to be some really cool science and thought I'd share it with like-minded folk. Plus, I wanted to see how Magnus responded and he did not dissapoint.
I thought this was going to be an analysis of Magnus' impressions of players vs their overall performance in college.
So did I....
Yup--same here. Magnus, chime in on this.

People say I'm crazy but I swear that Reddit is the first domino in the downfall of society.

Fine. Facebook was the first domino. Then Twitter. Then Reddit.
You haven't been on the dark web have you?
If you want actual downfall of the society-type of things, the first 99 would be on the dark web. The 100th would be 4chan, and then everything else.
Reddit is the last bastion of free speech*!
*Refers specifically to hate speech
Meh at least it got Pao ousted even if it was under shady circumstances.
lawsuit are now thinking "well maybe that venture fund had it right not making her partner"
too bad I posted before seeing this...
I fucking hate this facet of the blog.
love,

At first my computer was skipping real bad and I thought it was a balloon. Thought it was some crazy science shit.
A balloon that was defying gravity... and blowing holes in the ocean... Goddammit MSU, way to freakin educate me.
Pretty sure this is the same effect that cause top spin balls to 'drop' and undercut balls to 'float / glide' in tennis / ping pong
Man, that first skip is impressive.
If you drop me from the top of a dam, I will probably not bounce.
Computer simulation?
attacking the situation with enthusiasm unknown to mankind. What the hell kind of coach are you?
We can't all attack things with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. If we did, then mankind would know about it. I'll leave that for Harbaugh. My enthusiasm is only known to him.
Are you SURE you won't bounce?
Maybe you'll bounce more than you think you'd bounce.
We really should make sure of this one way or the other. For science.
proof positive right here:
You and me both.
I'm sore from lifting. You got any home remedies for my muscle pain?
I've been looking for a brand new way to get rejected!
If only the Magnus effect would stay away from my golf game, I would be much, much happier...
Alright, you'll owe me!
Bombs needed to skip, stop at the dam, then sink down along the wall of the dam before exploding. There was a Nova a few years ago with a group of engineers and scientists "reinventing" the dam busting bombs and using a small scale dam they built to prove it all actually worked.
I am so tired of people posting the same shit that is floating around facebook on mgoblog.
We get it, it's fuckign amazing.
but seriously, leave shit like this to facebook.
love you,
jdon
Unfriended
This was on the front page of reddit yesterday.
So YOU'RE the bastid who took the account name I wanted, mere days before I signed up. Please stop saying things like psych and #sorrynotsorry. Those are mine.
I was quite surprised it was available when I decided to stop lurking and join up.
What is a Magnus?
An oversight on my part. Fixed.
