Possible new fight song "Hail and Unite."
"Central Student Government has been presented a resolution to develop an additional thematic fight song to be played at University athletic events."
"This project is meant to be, number one, extremely unique."
They are going to reach out to get Eminem involved.
I, for one, cannot wait to see what the lyrics to this will include. I don't see Eminem being much of a uniter.

EDIT: I am in NO WAY in favor of this.

Hey, wait a minute... I'm in total agreement with you, which means these punks have achieved their goal of uniting the Michigan fanbase!

"Business sophomore Adam Weiss, a representative on the CSG Assembly, spoke on behalf of the song campaign, which he called “Hail and Unite.” He said his friend, LSA senior Mike Weinberg, conceptualized the project.
“This project is meant to be, number one, extremely unique,” Weiss said. “The goal of this song is to get a lot of big names that are associated with the University.”
He added that the project would also be backed by a crowd-funding campaign, which is tentatively set to launch next month."
So in other words, this is fundamentally a business/branding project that Weiss wants to add to his resumé that he'll be handing out to VC firms and coastal startups after he graduates. There is no identifiable intrinsic need for a new fight song of any sort.
It gets even more ridiculous:
"While the song’s lyrics and tune are still undetermined, Weiss said it is the organization’s aim to involve big names in the music business and University alumni to contribute to the song. For example, he said Weinberg wants to get Eminem involved.
What the fuck does this mean? What are these "big names" supposed to do? Sing? Write lyrics? Contribute money? Twerk onstage?
What he's proposing is that this song will be developed by a committee. You know what committees produce? They produce stuff like this:

Nailed it.
Also, "extremely unique." Something is either unique (one of a kind) or it isn't. This stupid idea may be extreme, but it unfortunately is not unique. Business tools are full of them.

Try to get some donations online to get popular person to do something (preferrably hip hop person). What a concept!!

"Weiss said it is the organization’s aim to involve big names in the music business and University alumni to contribute to the song."
In other words: Weiss' goal is to use the campaign to develop some ins to the music industry he can then leverage to get an internship or job later. Seriously, fuck this guy.
Also, does anyone else think "Weinberg wants to get Eminem involved" sounds a lot like these two clowns were sitting around watching TV and one of them said "hey, wouldn't it be cool if Eminiem, like, sang the fight song or something?" Want =/= has concrete plans or mechanics to do so.

You know I might be interested in this if it's a good song that isn't extremely cheesy and doesn't make me feel uncomfortable when it's played. Yeah that's probably not possible. You know what I just had wow moment. If we want a new song we should have the band make it.

Okay, what I read said its not a fight song replacement, but a pump up anthem.
Looking to see what else I can find.
Edit: yeah, nothing we want to hear more than a "star"-studded pop song played over and over at football games.

I can't believe this nonsense. Here's a block quote from the Daily article:
Business sophomore Adam Weiss, a representative on the CSG Assembly, spoke on behalf of the song campaign, which he called “Hail and Unite.” He said his friend, LSA senior Mike Weinberg, conceptualized the project.
“This project is meant to be, number one, extremely unique,” Weiss said. “The goal of this song is to get a lot of big names that are associated with the University.
So, who on here knows Adam Weiss and his friend, Mike Weinberg? What are they thinking? What circles do they run in? Are they MgoBloggers?

From the Mlive article:
Among U.S. states, California, with 2,428, was the one that sent the most students to Michigan; 2,170 students are fromNew York , 1,978 are from Illinois, and 1,1118 are from New Jersey.
Regardless of where they're from, this doesn't seem a great idea. I agree with the poster that something like this needs to be more organic.
EDIT: Weiss is from Florida, Weinberg is from California. Still a stupid idea.
February 11th, 2015 at 11:26 AM ^
Thank you Weiss & Weinberg.
Next time I have a bad idea, I plan to reference "Hail and Unite". Then my bad idea will actually seem pretty good in comparison.

if the song is terrible (which is very likely) nobody will ever play/ sing it after a few weeks. If it's actually awesome (very unlikely), then we have an additional song that the fanbase likes.
It's not a big deal, as long as we aren't wasting a bunch of cash on the project.
February 11th, 2015 at 12:36 PM ^
We will be mocked for this song for a long time - and rightly so.
