Right, the fact that the staff hasn’t shared their plans with Diagonal Blue surely means they have no plans.

11/24/2018 - 6:59pm The defensive talent may…

The defensive talent may drop off next year. But the offense should be the best we’ve seen in quite some time. 2019 will be a very interesting year as our perceived strength (defense) and our perceived weakness (offense) switch places. Also, we may have found something in Moody, which is nice to see if in fact we’re going to need to score more points next year to make up for the losses on D.

11/24/2018 - 5:56pm Don’t let the door hit you…

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

11/24/2018 - 4:29pm I’ll bite. Name a coach who…

I’ll bite. Name a coach who was fired after going 10-2 three times in four years. From ANY program. I’ll wait.

11/24/2018 - 1:52pm This guy wants Don Brown…

This guy wants Don Brown fired. Our board right now, ladies and gentlemen.

11/24/2018 - 1:31pm Man this board is so full of…

Man this board is so full of toddlers throwing temper tantrums. No one needs you to come on here and broadcast the fact that you’re rage quitting. If you give up on your team that easily and that early, fine, go do your yardwork or errands. But don’t come here first to puff your chest and show everyone how ANGRY you are.

Go Blue. Let’s fight our way back.

Doesn’t look like this has been mentioned, so I’ll chime in - Robinson is being offered as a TE.

11/20/2018 - 6:46pm I had a window smashed in…

I had a window smashed in about a half mile from campus. I had Michigan plates. Nothing was stolen despite the fact that there were a few things that could’ve been taken, leading me to believe it was certainly just mindless vandalism.

11/19/2018 - 12:01pm While we're at it, I've got…

While we're at it, I've got an apology to make to my brother, who posts here from time to time and may or may not see this:

I am sorry that, when we were kids, myself and our other two brothers tied you to a tree in the front yard and pulled down your shorts to leave you with your bare ass facing the road. That was in poor taste.

11/15/2018 - 12:01pm Right, because what we all…

Right, because what we all love about MGoBlog is that they do everything by the book and never take quirky, artistic liberties. Lighten up, Francis.

What's next, commenting on Opponent Watch to make sure the "Fear Level" for each opponent was properly calculated?

10/30/2018 - 8:09pm Revel and Roll. It’s a bar…

Revel and Roll. It’s a bar/arcade/bowling alley hybrid right by the stadium and they literally have screens that are the size of entire walls with CFB on all of them. The food is good, but the bowling is overpriced.

10/15/2018 - 1:25pm Our tickets are in Section 8…

Our tickets are in Section 8, Row 82 and the band is always extremely quiet.  Even the piped-in music is extremely quiet.  I don't think this is something recent as our tickets have been in the same place since I was a toddler.  I know they probably can't put speakers on our side of the stadium as it would likely result in a crazy echo effect.  And they probably can't turn up the volume of the music without making people closer to the speakers lose their hearing.  But it definitely affects the game day atmosphere for me.

09/23/2018 - 9:31pm 12-0 ND only hurts us if we…

12-0 ND only hurts us if we are an 11-2 Big 10 Champion. A 12-1 Big 10 Champion Michigan with wins over OSU, PSU, MSU and Wisconsin TWICE is not getting left out of the playoff.

09/11/2018 - 8:38am Sounds like a great way to…

Sounds like a great way to get Shea lit up in a meaningless game. We FINALLY have a functional QB... so I would like to see whatever game plan gets the W with the fewest possible hits to that QB.

11/02/2017 - 8:07pm I think maybe the folks

I think maybe the folks making the "no one cares about the MLS" argument have an early-2000's perception of what the MLS is.  The MLS currently ranks 3rd among US leagues for attendance on a per-game basis, averaging around 21,000 fans per game.  That eclipses both the NBA and the NHL:

11/01/2017 - 12:15pm If you think MLS teams play

If you think MLS teams play to empty stadiums, you have never been to an MLS game.

10/28/2017 - 11:39pm Salford City goalkeeper Max

Salford City goalkeeper Max Crocombe received a red card for taking a piss DURING A GAME against Bradford today.

This is certainly scummy, but I've seen some of our own "fans" tweet worse things to John O'Korn.

10/21/2017 - 10:13pm Playing in the Big Ten West

Playing in the Big Ten West is worth an extra 2-3 free wins per year. Wisconsin has it pretty easy right now.

10/13/2017 - 11:56am We aren't "rudderless when it

We aren't "rudderless when it comes to player development" because we've kept all of the things Klinsmann instituted when he was technical director - small sided format, the build-out line at 7v7, the coaching education overhaul. All of that is still in place and will remain in place. Honestly, Klinsmann was a great Technical Director. He was just a horrible man-manager and in-game tactician, and he was also not very adept at speaking with the media, and thus he wasn't a good fit for USMNT coach. Too bad we couldn't have just demoted him to TD.

10/12/2017 - 3:07pm Yea, that last goal against

Yea, that last goal against really cost us. I can't blame Hackworth for pushing for the win though, especially with U17s. Bummer it cost us a late counter goal. So much for my assertion that we would be favored all the way to the semis. This is going to be a tough slog now.

10/12/2017 - 11:15am Our Academy system is only 10

Our Academy system is only 10 years old, and it took several years before we were able to have players coming through who went through the entireity of their teen years in the Academy.

The Academy, or USDA or just "DA" in soccer circles (United States Development Academy) has addressed a lot of the issues that have long been blamed for the the US' player development woes.  Namely, they have a fixed training-to-game ratio, and *most* of them do not have to pay anything to play.  The MLS, which I've seen a ton of people blaming for the US World Cup elimination, has been instrumental in the Academy system as all MLS teams sponsor Academy teams at ages U14 through U18.  It is rare to see a non-MLS Academy team in the DA final four, though there are solid non-MLS Academy clubs who make appearances here and there (I believe a team from Texas did so this year).

Make no mistake - the US success at this U17 World Cup is not a fluke.  While they did look second-best against Ghana, a perennial youth power, they found a way to get the job done. They should be favored in every game from here until at least the semifinals.  Our U20 teams have made the quarterfinals at the last two U20 World Cups as well.  The future is bright, and if we truly do get to host the 2026 World Cup, I would not be surprised to see the US make a run to the quarterfinals or even semifinals with a bit of luck.

TL;DR - About 10 years ago we finally started caring about and standardizing youth development, started putting kids on scholarship, and put professional coaches in charge of the top players.

10/11/2017 - 10:31am Yes, I'm well aware that

Yes, I'm well aware that losing is not the same as a car accident. Forgive my hyperbole, I guess. For the record, I don't "throw shit", I don't break shit or start fights or get wasted or skp work. I literally just feel bad, that's all.

10/11/2017 - 10:18am Hahahaha I didn't catch that

Hahahaha I didn't catch that at first. See, this whole thing has me so upset that I'm jamming the wrong key expecting my computer to know what I want!

10/11/2017 - 10:16am Thanks for the post, and I

Thanks for the post, and I hope so as well.  I'll be the first to admit that I'm blessed beyond belief. I've faced a bit of adversity but nothing even worth mentioning when placed up alongside the things you've mentioned.

Unfortunately, that's one of the contributing factors to the bad mojo after games like these - when I realize I'm butthurt about a freaking football game in a world full of actual tragedy, I get pretty upset with myself for being so childish/selfish/etc... which in turn perpetuates the bad mojo.

10/11/2017 - 10:11am Haha, if I ever run out of

Haha, if I ever run out of chores to do around my own house, I'll bring my rake on over and help out.

10/11/2017 - 10:07am My good friend is a Cubs fan

My good friend is a Cubs fan too, I had to privilege of being with him during the clinching game of the World Series last year. Dude was on the phone with his dad and they were both in tears. I remember thinking, "I bet all those years of sucking was worth it to him just for this moment."

10/11/2017 - 10:02am Congrats on the weight loss

Congrats on the weight loss man, that's incredible. Glad to hear something very positive came out of that ridiculous loss.

Re: the soccer question: Uh, I expected to qualify for the World Cup? Like we have every year since 1986? Failing to see how "detached from reality" one has to be to expect that.

10/11/2017 - 9:52am Replied to a post lower down,

Replied to a post lower down, didn't realize you brought it up first:

"Haha, I knew this one was coming. Actually I wore a rain jacket, then a second jacket that I thought was at least somewhat waterproof.  For the life of me I have no idea how so much water got in, I literally had 2 hoods up and the zippers all the way up. Probably from the standing/jumping, or maybe just the horizontal rain. Anyway, the pocket on the inside jacket filled up with water and became a nice little bathtub for my phone."

10/11/2017 - 1:02am It's not exactly the same

It's not exactly the same feeling for me, but the scarcity of it - one World Cup every 4 years (or 8 now, I guess) - puts it on a similar level.

10/11/2017 - 1:00am Solid post, good perspective,

Solid post, good perspective, but... are you sure there are actual IU diehards? Like, have you personally empirically verified this?

10/11/2017 - 12:52am No worries man, I know

No worries man, I know tolerance for these types of posts has got to be at an all-time low. Probably not the best timing on my part, but after the USMNT stuff tonight and how it paralled Saturday, I was genuinely curious if there were others feeling the same way.

10/11/2017 - 12:50am Haha yea, I saw that post,

Haha yea, I saw that post, and I thought to myself, "that guy is me, except if you replaced 'sad' with 'stabby'."

10/11/2017 - 12:48am Eh, maybe I sensationalized

Eh, maybe I sensationalized that part too much. I had a nightmare where my roommate mowed me down with a riding lawnmower, but I still live with him and I still mow the lawn. It isn't like losses prevent me from being a functioning human being - I still go to work, I still bathe myself, I don't snap at random strangers in the supermarket. It just... feels bad, man. More often than it feels good. That's all I'm trying to get at. Mathematically, it doesn't seem to shake out, yet here I am.

10/11/2017 - 12:42am Appreciate the

Appreciate the honesty/empathy.

10/11/2017 - 12:41am Yea, man. I'm a "pussy".

Yea, man. I'm a "pussy". Thanks for helping me get to the bottom of it.

Honestly, I truly did not mean to get this attached to this thing, or to any team for that matter. Grew up with my dad having season tickets, and it just sort of happened. I've got 3 brothers and a dad who are all die-hards, and none of them seem to have this problem. I've tried various means of detaching myself, none of them work. Like I said earlier, this thing doesn't seem to have an off switch, hence the post. Wondering if anyone else was in the same boat.

10/11/2017 - 12:32am I think the idea was to treat

I think the idea was to treat him as a sort of "caretaker" manager - someone who could be trusted to get us through qualifying while we figured out a more permanent solution. Honestly, I'm a coach myself and I'm a serial coach-blamer, but to me this one falls more on the players. Arena starts an 11 that destroys Panama... seems like a no-brainer to start the same 11 against T&T.

But the effort in the first half in particular was that of a team who felt assured of their place. Technical mistakes I can handle - even the best players in the world blow the ball over the bar or mis-hit passes. But I can't excuse a lack of effort when you're representing your country.

10/11/2017 - 12:27am So maybe the solution is to

So maybe the solution is to have a daughter? I suppose I could try that.

10/11/2017 - 12:26am Right, that's sort of the

Right, that's sort of the point. I am well aware that I'm taking it too seriously. However, this thing doesn't seem to come with an "off" switch. Wondering if it's like that for others too, or if I'm just some sort of hypersensitive outlier, which I why I posted.

08/24/2017 - 3:01pm Lol Tottenham

Came here to post "lol Tottenham" but it looks like several beat me to it.  But I think Anderlecht gets the "most screwed" award for getting drawn with Bayern, PSG, and Celtic.  They might legitimately finish group play with 0-3 points.

01/10/2017 - 10:22pm I have cried twice in my life.

"I have cried twice in my life. Once when I was seven and I was hit by a school bus. And then again when I heard that Li'l Sebastian had passed."

I was at the game, it was my first Lions-Packers game. Have to agree with a lot of posters here. Packers fans are absolutely insufferable. I spent the entire game trying to see around a Wisconsin-sized farm girl with her back to the field taunting all the home fans.

I'm upset about the way the game has started too, but what is wrong with all of you? Why does everyone here turn into such a whiny douchebag when things don't go well? The willingness to hurl insults at the college kids you claim to root for is embarrassing.
