I would guess Michigan has had over 10, but yes, surely Florida has had many, many more.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:17 PM ^
You personally coach the kid? That's very cool.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:26 PM ^
He's a once in 10-15 years kind of kid coaching wise. His talent and work ethic is excellent as well.

Does he have interest in coming to Michigan?
January 28th, 2015 at 1:22 PM ^
He's had interest. It just never really materialized. I think if Michigan were to be interested in him.....things could heat up quickly. I've told him how big of a deal Michigan is and what that degree means. He knows that Michigan is another level. I personally think he would do great in Ann Arbor. I don't get too involved in it because I'm obviously in his fan club. We will see what the coaches think.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:55 PM ^
Why wait until now to send tape?
Was it hard to get a hold of the coaches while they are frantically visiting recruits all over the country?
January 28th, 2015 at 2:10 PM ^
If I recall, he sent the Hoke regime his tape as well. I don't think that it swayed them, though.

SAT is back to being out of 1600 again? Shiet those stats and extracurriculars are impressive without the football let alone with football.
O_O
January 28th, 2015 at 1:26 PM ^
Sounds like this kid could get into Michigan without football!
January 28th, 2015 at 1:27 PM ^
He is a terrific student.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:31 PM ^
I think they are still out of 2400?
But I'm guessing a lot of schools only look at the non-writing portion, which would be 1600.
Is Higdon's score out of 2400 or 1600?
January 28th, 2015 at 1:34 PM ^
I believe they are de-emphasizing the writing portion of current SATs and are flipping back to the 1600 format next year.
Given his 4.0 GPA, I would assume OP is counting it out of 1600 b/c I doubt a 4.0 student would get a 1450/2400 unless there is severe grade inflation involved.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:39 PM ^
Sounds good to me.
I was the last class that had the option of taking the SATs without the writing portion, which I took full advantage of. The writing portion always struck me as stupid. There were anecdotes about how professors could tell what score you would get based only on the length of your essay.
Standardized testing is already a poor measure of intelligence, and making it subjective just worsens an already big problem (people grading thousands upon thousands of essays are not going to be able to grade well).
January 28th, 2015 at 1:19 PM ^
Crazy how much overlay there seems to be between this site and the football team. Former players, people who are close to recruits, FOIA getting all up in that business. I'm sure that Wheatley will give him a look. How eager is he to get a Michigan offer? Is he a big Michigan fan, or are you more or less the one that is eager to see him get the offer?
January 28th, 2015 at 1:25 PM ^
I'm an FSU football alum actually but also a lifelong Michigan fan. I don't try and push him either way. FSU was close to offering but didnt simply because we had 3 backs with his exact frame already that were underclassmen. I'm a fan of wherever he goes. If he sticks with Iowa i'll be rooting for him in Black and Gold also.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:50 PM ^
Dionte should have come to Ann Arbor off the bat. He tried to later but he took a goofy major at FSU and his credits didnt all transfer. Thats why he ended up at Ohio State. He wanted to be at Michigan.
January 28th, 2015 at 3:50 PM ^
to name today's 'mystery guest' ?
January 28th, 2015 at 1:20 PM ^
But dang, I hope for his sake, being a RB, that he doesn't end up at Iowa. Maybe Michigan can come up with an offer. Nice offer list too.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:28 PM ^
that if he goes to Iowa he's just going to be injured by the AIRBHG.
Also note that his RB coach may just suddenly leave to open a Culvers restaurant.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:42 PM ^
I don't want to jinx the kid.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:25 PM ^
Sounds like a MICHIGAN MAN!
January 28th, 2015 at 1:27 PM ^
that can get into Michigan without football.
I hope he gets an offer. And accepts it. I'm a big fan of smart players.

January 28th, 2015 at 1:33 PM ^
I know it works well in Indiana and Texas, but not so well in California. I'm hoping it's strong in Iowa.

January 28th, 2015 at 1:43 PM ^
Yeah, I think this is at least the third thread started about him. (Not a criticism of the OP, just a statement.)
January 28th, 2015 at 3:17 PM ^
I'm all for these threads, even if duplicative (within reason) - if it helps a kid to get attention he otherwise wouldn't have gotten (which is certainly possible), go for it. No shame in that.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:42 PM ^
I truly hope you don't take offense to this, but my issue with Higdon has always been his lack of speed. I think he runs a lot like De'Veon Smith, which means that a) he's just not quick enough to be a standout at this level and b) we already have a back like him. Harbaugh had guys who weren't particularly speedy at Stanford (Gerhart, for example) and did fine, but I would prefer to see Michigan get a guy or two who can be a breakaway threat.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:49 PM ^
January 28th, 2015 at 1:51 PM ^
He does not look like a guy who could run a 4.5.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:54 PM ^
He has been clocked numerous times in the low 4.5s and has a camp time at USF of 4.4 apparently. I've seen him run 4.5 personally 5 or so times. He has plenty of speed, just not 4.3 speed. Most backs his size can't throw 350 pounds around either though so there is some give or take. He is faster than Green and Smith right now. Drake and him may be comparable. Not sure on Isaac. Karan would be a steal if Michigan were to miss out on Weber. Weber is a straight stud and the no. 1 option as we all know.
January 28th, 2015 at 1:55 PM ^
I really disagree on the speed thing, but oh well. Not talking about 40 speed, but acceleration/speed on the field. I just don't see it, but to each his own.
January 28th, 2015 at 4:17 PM ^
I think you are right about the straight line speed, however I think Higdon makes cuts Deveon couldn't make and shows better explosion.
January 28th, 2015 at 6:22 PM ^
Now that I look at the highlights. Smith looks a good deal slower than Higdon.
January 28th, 2015 at 7:15 PM ^
I would probably give a slight edge to Higdon in speed/quickness, but not enough to make a signifcant difference. He still doesn't look like a breakaway threat, and I think that's part of what Michigan has been lacking at running back for the past couple years.
January 31st, 2015 at 11:16 AM ^
He's run a nymber of low 11 second 100m (not hand timed)... that isn't super fast, but that is around what Drake Johson ran in high school.
Straight line speed at least - he's WAY faster than Deveon Smith and Derrick Green.
January 31st, 2015 at 12:05 PM ^
That's fine. It doesn't show on the football field, in my opinion.
January 28th, 2015 at 2:54 PM ^
Was that laser timed or stopwatch timed?
Not saying it isn't legitimate, but there's a reason for Brian's system of assigning 1-5 FAKES on 40 times. 4.4 is REALLY friggin fast.
January 28th, 2015 at 8:27 PM ^
reminds of fitz touissant. obviously hes a solid player and sounds like great kid. itd be cool if michigan gave him a shot for both your sakes.
agree with other posters re speed, acceleration. doesnt mean hes not or cant be a good player, he is and can - touissant was a decent player, just lacked a few ideal traits to reach that top shelf.
hell be a nice college player. but michigan already has a roster full of RBs who cant house it and lack those special cuts. id imagine harbaugh and staff are looking for RBs with that elite acceleration (ie dalvin cook for the FSU baller) or more complete backs - hoke left them plenty of between the tackle type guys, this kid looks like another solid but incomplete back.
best of luck to him though, sounds like you coached up a great kid, ferentz will love his new hammer

January 28th, 2015 at 1:58 PM ^
and they don't have use for "slower" backs most of the time. I'm thinking the Weber courtship is probably a bigger reason? Oh well, it makes for a good soap opera which I'm sure will have more twists and turns.
Kudos to the kid for having his head on straight and being a good citizen. Speaking of Toby Gerhart...
I think Kerridge will have a big season under JH and is an exemplary kid off the field. Stanford was interested in him and he may have gone there if not for a senior year injury. Lots of respect for coachable, smart kids who do it on and off the field.
January 28th, 2015 at 2:47 PM ^
Arizona also has guys who are quick, though. Sometimes it's nice to have a lightning-thunder combo. Rodriguez wanted Stephen Hopkins, but he also went after Vincent Smith and Fitzgerald Toussaint. With our current roster makeup, I think we need more lightning than thunder.
January 28th, 2015 at 2:16 PM ^
While I agree that he doesn't have breakaway speed, he looks a step up from De'Veon to me. Higdon turns a corner or two in his highlights and outruns some guys; you never saw that from Smith in his HS highlights.
