WTF is going on at GBW/with Sam Webb?

Saw this in the thread 2 down from this one.

WTH. Are there any other GBW members that post here that speak about this?

 

Sam was also asked (after his latest article) to give a percentage on getting Jim and he said 60-40. Things are getting strange over on GBW. Sam is basically censoring Tom Beaver and telling the GBW members (his customers) that if they don't like what he has to say they can leave. I could be wrong but that doesn't seem like the best way to run a business. I've always liked Sam but he's turned into a real prick for some reason.

My exposure to Sam is limited to WTKA.  He seems to continue to be careful about clarifying whether what he is saying is based on sources or strictly his opinion.  

Ira is on the show too...he's the guy with some connections with Maryland (in case you were listening that portion of that day when it didn't come up).

I have never subscribed to him, and after hearing everything he is relaying during this search, I'm glad. I chose to subscribe to Balas and company. If Sam ends up being waaaay off, I hope people let him hear about it. People don't pay to be filled full of BS on these sites. I just can't believe how back and forth Sam is every other day. Sam is fantastic on the recruiting trail, I'll give him that.

I used to listen to wtka to hear Sam's opinions. I had to stop tuning in because of how whiney and bullish he got about the Hoke situation and the football team. All the positive spins and things aren't really that bad got old. Almost feels like he is butt hurt over the firing of Hoke.

After being on that board for a while is that Sam is being told by schembechler hall to lock it up! They want to keep this search as lock tight as possible.

Insiders (Not Mods) over at the Fort who are supposedly close to the JH situation have also been told to lock it up until it's over.

I take it as a good thing at this point because they want to keep the JH negotiations under wraps. Schiano & Adazzio are just a smoke screen.

Probably wishful thinking on my part but this thinking makes me feel better. Lol

I don't have any direct sources, but the indirect ones that I have in Miami "organizations" who used to always know something in the past now seem to know nothing. I personally think there probably is a process well underway and that you are right (above) in your assessment. Again, my disclaimer that I actually KNOW nothing (apparently like everyone else - publicly)

I still like Sam, and I still listen, though I'll admit that I'm listening to WTKA a lot less. My biggest issue is that I feel like he spends a portion of each day defending himself against every single person who disagrees with him, especially when he's wrong about something. I literally sit at my desk some mornings begging him to stop. Then, I have to turn it off. He's way better than that. Everyone is on edge over the season and the "CC", so you're going to get some cantankerous callers and posters. You just can't go telling people to get out if they don't like it (and he has on a few occasions on Scout lately). Stop clarifying/defending everything and do what you do, man.

For those who don't listen to Sam on wtka he is very deliberate in spelling out his role as a reporter who only reports on sourced material. He regularly stresses that he prints only information he can back up and validate no matter how unsatisfying or disappointing the information may be. "Don't shoot the messenger is a frequent refrain. From what Brian has suggested in a few cc posts is my opinion that's am does this not only as someone who takes their role as journalist seriously but also in an effort to distinguish himself and his publications different from rivals, who are known to hype up the most comforting information to placate the fanbase.

This is like me going over to GBW and talking about how awful Brian is. Who cares? This is an anonymous internet poster v Sam Webb. I'll trust Sam. People are pissed because Sam reported candidates they don't like are on the rise and Ohio rolled. The only thing worse than Staee fans who are winning is Michigan fans who are losing.

I can't imagine too many people are that bothered by Webb, but what I have noticed has been a large number of Sam (and other "insider's" takes) are glorified shotguns of speculations being shot off evey couple of days, with the hope that one sticks and they can claim some foresight.  That's why I wonder how people can justify paying a monthly fee to get "It looks like it could be Harbaugh, but if not then maybe Schiano, but I'm also hearing they could bring Hoke back, or Miles might be back on the table, blah blah blah."  Whatever sources these guys have either (a) are lying, (b) easily tricked, or most likely, (c) have no idea but Webb and other have deadlines and want pageviews.  It's generating news instead of reporting it, and to some that pay money for it it must be annoying.

And it boils down to this. No one knows anything. I am sure Hackett has put the word out within the Athletic Department to keep their mouthes shut. No leaks or your out. So it boils down to those who had insider information are no longer getting insider information. Just let this thing play out. We will find out soon enough and then there will be a transition to this thread. The argument will then be why Michigan hires that guy and why not this guy. You can't please everyone. Like Aaron Rodgers said in Green Bay earlier in the season - just RELAX.
