CC- An interesting Reddit comment
Edit: The reddit user is elduderino01. I don't know if it has anything to do with the rdt/wiab junk that everyone is babbling about.
Like everything else relating to the coaching search, take this with a grain/bucket of salt. That said, two things lend this at least a little bit of credibility. 1. He's an Alabama fan, yet knows a suspicious amount about the inner workings of U-M -- far more than any random Alabama fan could really be expected to. 2. He has a 5 year old account. Generally on reddit, the older your account is, the more credible you are. At the very least it means you're not there simply to troll. Take it for what it's worth. I'm not presenting this as a fact.

"According to my source ( a fella who works in their Athletic Department and is a friend of my brother who is a faculty member there, and who correctly called the timelines for both the former AD and Head Coaches being fired earlier this season... ) Harbaugh to UM has been pretty much and agreement in principal for almost a month, and as of this past week the deal is done. harbaugh will be e next head football coach at UM... It also makes plenty of sense, certainly more sense than continuing to work for the Yorks or to start new with the Davis's.... Oh and for what its worth, it is the family that owns the Miami Dolphins who were so instrumental in getting this done. Apparently theyre also huge UM boosters and they are writing the blank check. As well Lloyd Carr and his backers on the Board of Regents have given their blessing as well. Harbaugh has been assured he will have carte blanch when it comes to football operations in A2"

Hoke was hired. Was the Jim Harbaugh to Michigan rumor mill churning out as much then?

No. A lot of people had counted him out because of his comments regarding players being steered towards easier courses. IIRC, Miles was a bigger rumor target.

weren't as desperate for a savior as we are now. Things have escalated in the past four years.
December 6th, 2014 at 7:17 PM ^
The push for Harbaugh was just as strong, but there were 49ers rumors that had a lot of momentum on them. Well before the hire was made, we were told by our MGoLeader not to get our hopes up about Harbaugh. Brian also had (disgustedly) predicted Hoke well before he was hired, and rumors like these Harbaugh ones were coming out before Hoke was announced (without the excitement, obviously)
December 6th, 2014 at 7:50 PM ^
You have a terrible memory bud. Obviously you were around back then but everything happened pretty much the oppsite way of what you described. There was not a whole bunch of this Harbaugh because half the people here honestly hated him at the time. I don't see much of that now but I remember getting blasted when I would hope for him back then. Besides he was a good coach but not a superstar like he is now. Also Brian did not predict Hoke..we heard the rumor and he wouldn't believe it at all until it was announced..then he proclaimed us to be the new ND. If only he knew what was coming lol
December 6th, 2014 at 8:16 PM ^
I will concede that maybe there were people against Harbaugh, and that I don't have a great memory (it was my senior year of college after all), but by and large, Harbaugh was the A #1 choice, with Les Miles and Gary Patterson--coming off a rose bowl victory over Wisconsin--being close behind.
I am having trouble finding sources, but this post supports my feelings. Brian didn't predict Hoke, but there were indicators prior to the hire that both Harbaugh wasn't going to happen, and there may be credence to Hoke happening (that Brian definitely refused to believe).
My point is to say the "tea leaves" in this case are much more positive for our desired outcome than they were last time.
December 6th, 2014 at 8:25 PM ^
Not even close. Harbaugh was a hope but that went away fast.

answering. I was thinking that where there is a lot of smoke there is fire, but wondered if we had the same thing before here. I think Mabel Pines is right given our disappointment over the last few years.

of this thread is the statement that the longer UM goes without a coaching search, the better the odds looking of getting Jim or John Harbaugh.
All these other guys whose names pop up (Whittingham and Addazio today) doing so because Hackett is making calls or the AD office leaking out info to cover the trail? I hope so.

So what's better for us this weekend? 49ers lose to Oakland and end the playoff hopes, or 49ers kill the Raiders and Jim realizes there is no way he wants to coach that shitty franchise?
December 6th, 2014 at 7:25 PM ^
The former because if he doesn't already know he shouldn't coach that shitty franchise I question not only his intelligence but his sanity as well.
December 6th, 2014 at 8:26 PM ^
I am truly the biggest Raiders fan this weekend only. Long shot I know. But If they lose to the raiders he will likely not make it through the week.

I don't post much, but I'm reading these comments and I really want them to be true, but they just seem "off"
There is the claim that this has been an agreement in principal for nearly a month. A month ago, Michigan had just beaten IU, had 3 games left, and a potential bowl game. Do we really believe that the decision to fire Brady Hoke was done before the Northwestern football game? How does that even line up with when Brandon was "resigned" and Hackett took over?
If this were true, that the agreement was done in principal for nearly a month and that a week ago, it was a done deal, then the entire speech by Hackett about swim lanes and doing due diligence and all that was all just a bunch of bunk, because a deal was already done according to this.
December 6th, 2014 at 7:04 PM ^
I don't know if any of the Harbaugh stuff is true, but I do think that Hoke was essentially fired after the Minesota game.

Is it that ridiculous? Hackett is covering all his bases. Not only is he making sure he has a backup plan in place, but he's trying to throw the media off. Brandon was fired over a month ago, I wouldn't be surprised if Harbaugh showed immediate interest at that point and began serious backdoor discussions with Hackett.
December 6th, 2014 at 7:07 PM ^
I believe the whole search form thing is a plan b set in motion just in case family or something keeps Jim in San Fran. Jim Hackett is doing a good job closing the doors to this process.

December 6th, 2014 at 7:14 PM ^
Not to be that guy, but it's an agreement in principle, not principal.
December 6th, 2014 at 7:31 PM ^
Well, the original post says "principal," so go be that guy to the OP
December 6th, 2014 at 7:55 PM ^
Schissel did slip up that one time and say people wanted him to hire a new AD so he could hire the new coach right? That happened around that timeframe if I remember

Guys, there's an Ohio State fan saying it, too:
"My dad does a lot of business with and is friends with a former U of M football player, who is friends with another former U of M player that played with and is still good friends with Harbaugh... He said unless some miracle happens in San Francisco... Harbaugh wants to go to Michigan..."
December 6th, 2014 at 7:07 PM ^
think that's an obvious trolling by an OSU fan

December 6th, 2014 at 7:31 PM ^
Oklahoma fans are ridiculous... people in there calling for Stoop's head and calling him garbage...
He pretty much always wins ten games, pretty much always go to a BCS bowl, and has a national title but one bad year and they freak the hell out like this?
He deserves better... like us if we can't hire Jim Harbaugh.
