If Hoke is NOT let go right away will the non-Muggles try and save him?

Submitted by mGrowOld on

Assuming Hoke is not let go in the next 24 hours will the players and ex-players FINALLY acknowledge what us Muggles have known for quite some time - that Hoke is not the answer as HC?  Given that all season we have been told by players and ex-players just how insanely awesome Hoke is and that he just needs a bit more time to turn things around I'm wondering if any of them will break ranks and call for the dismissal of their good friend Brady Hoke.

My fear remains that those with influence inside the Athletic Department will continue to lobby for Hoke to be retained to preserve their buddy's career in spite of his horrendous and declining record.  And like it or not they have access to Hackett that we do not enjoy so right or wrong their voice campaigning loudly to save their buddy will be heard while ours is not.

at this moment Hoke is still the head coach at the University of Michigan. Why should we expect an athletic department that carried out the worst coaching evaluation & search in the history of college football in Dec 2010-Jan 2011 won't blow it again?

Also it's not the fact that they like him, it's the fact that they legitimately believe everyone who is critical of him is an idiot and has no idea what they're talking about. Like Hoke is some genius and we just don't know how to appreciate him.

I politely disagree.  We have no evidence one way or the other on what Hackett will do so we don't know what he's thinking.

What I'm referring to is the seemingly universal support of Hoke by both players and ex-players and my concern that their voice will be heard by Hacket.  I wasnt referring to Hackett himself (I had forgotten candidly he was an ex-player himself) - simply the potential for visable support from those inside the team having an influence in the decsion.

I was travelling back home following the Thanksgiving holiday.

I may be inserting my own worldview, but it sounded to me like Jim Brandstatter was having a hard time asking the interview questions.

Granted, losing The Game in epic fashion also contributes to the somber mood.

Brady sounded spent, and I feel for the guy. But they both sorta knew it was the last "Brady Hoke Post-Game Show" and he would soon be without his beloved "kids."

Can't find the link to the broadcast.

Since when do ex players anywhere start hurling stones and discredit current coaches? They're the ones who know what it's like to be close to a coach and have the fickle fanbase of the world hurl all that bullshit from the outside. They have more respect for the personnel and players in the program than to do that garbage. In what program and what coaching firing have you seen something like that? It's extremely rare--it wasn't even the case at USC with Kiffin. They just don't do that. Just because they don't publicly denounce them doesn't mean that they don't have an internal voice and ways to get that across to the AD without taking out a full page newspaper ad.

You really do not believe this. Ticket sales and renewals and donations are at stake. Unless Brady's friends buy tons of seats and donate truck loads of money, there is no way Hoke stays. Financially they cant afford to keep Hoke now.

quite frankly it seems like the athletic department is intent on committing harakiri and emulating UVA or something. People act like Michigan is going to do what it takes to win but they simply haven't shown that they're willing to do that over the past decade.

was the guy to lead UM back to Big Ten preeminence. As idiotic as that sounds he honestly believed that. UM is not indifferent to winning. Far from it. But when you have incompetents in positions of power it can sure seem like they have no interest when they make horrible decisions and then refuse to correct them.

Bottom line....everyone will be on edge until they hear the words "Brady Hoke has been relieved of his duties as Head Football Coach at Michigan"

Until that happens people will lose their minds, and reality is that the higher ups have caused the fans to be wired this way  by sticking with a lame duck as a HC while fairly or unfairly they see the former HC has already made his new program more relevant than Michigan is.

Nature of the beast until changes are made and official.

If we don't get Harbaugh our transition to irrelevance will be complete.  It'll be another 7-8 years of frustration.

PS

How's Arizona doing w/a true freshman qb?   We wanted MANBALL and we got it.

What we wanted was something like they have in Tuscaloosa, East Lansing, Palo Alto or Madison. Obviously it's not what we got, but since quote unquote "manball" does work quite well elsewhere, I'd conclude it's not about scheme it's about competence and performance. As in, our coaching staff does not have enough of A to output B.

No chance Hoke stays. Maybe there was an off chance had we beaten OSU, but that's done now. The only question is whether we hire the right person or the wrong one for this job--keeping in mind that some candidates may be good coaches but not necessarily right for this specific job (eg RR), and others a good "fit" for the institution but not good enough as coaches (eg Hoke).

Who gives a crap about recruiting right now? It's a small class and it's very clear Hoke is gone, or if we're dumb enough to keep him that any recruit will not meet his potential at Michigan. This year's recruiting class is number 99 on our list of problems.

Just get the firing over with so I can feel halfway good about the direction of this program. Each day they wait makes me less confident in the future.

I agree with you. Can't even read recruiting updates anymore.

But, I do have to condition my lack of interest on the fact WE NEED A GOD DAMN QB and a pass rushing LB or DE would be nice too.

I hope we keep Malzone and Harbaugh can get a 5 star DE/LB.  Then a fifth year transfer qb please.

I have this sinking feeling that Hoke will be retained. He'll make the case that it's a young team. However, in this his 4th year, what happened to any of his recruits? Is this team talented enough to at least go to the Quick Lane Bowl? I wish an experienced AD (without ties to the Carr era) would make this decision.

Griese was about as outspoken against Hoke as you could expect one to be and still remain professional and respectful. Towards the end of the broadcast he said "you can't imagine how this isn't the end for Hoke, he's a big boy, he knows what's coming, this just isn't acceptable". He made no apologies about it and was pretty matter of fact. That's coming from a Lloyd Carr guy who although played on the other side of the ball, was there when Hoke was the DL coach. Hoke had wide ranging support from former players when hired and they weren't all defensive linemen. In fact the letter that Glen Steele wrote in support was signed by the entire 97 team. So you could surmise that Griese, a non-muggle, was in fact a supporter at one time.

You are like a cliche of the 60s era housewife wringing your hands about what might happen in a soap opera - when in reality the script is written. Hoke is gone. You are just trying to find something to worry about. Sit back and let it play out. Find something else to do in the mean time.
