CC: Pat Narduzzi

Submitted by Gucci Mane on
Pat Narduzzi is a name I keep seeing on national sports shows lists, of coaches UofM might go after. At first thought it seems crazy, but it's an interesting idea. I think Narduzzi is more likely if Brandon makes the hire, becuase I don't believe Brandon can get a top tier proven coach. Who thinks this is a good idea ?

Edit: he is not my first choice, but it seems like a possibility, so it warrants a thread.

Who cares about attitude? MSU's defense has been great because their head coach is probably one of the three best defensive minds in the game over the last 15 years and Big Ten QBs aren't good enough to make them pay for suicidally-aggressive schemes.  The rest is just talk.

Narduzzi is a double (an off the wall double), if we don't it a home run we may leave Narduzzi stranded at second.

Wow did that make any sense? Sounded good.

I'll also add that Dantonio is such a defense-first coach that I'm not sure how Narduzzi would do without him.  I'm sure he's a good HC candidate for a lesser school, but no way Michigan will risk the next hire on a guy who hasn't even really tried to be a HC yet.

He's said NO.

He hates Michigan and everyone knows it.

It is completely unrealistic to think he'd spurn his mentor and go coach his rival school.

He wouldn't be able to recruit in-state because he'd immediately be going into the same schools trying to sell something he's been talking shit about for 3-4 years.

...no, No, NO!

Like I've said 1,000 times...MAYBE if Dantonio left for Tennessee when Kiffin left or for another job 3-4 years ago and took Narduzzi with him. MAYBE you could see Narduzzi come back and coach Michigan.

But now? While Dantonio is still at MSU? That's fucking ridiculous on so many levels.

We're giving MSU ammo for no reason, Narduzzi isn't coming, he doesn't want to come to Michigan and he'd struggle to have early success at Michigan.

People use the "Bo" reference. Bo wasn't at OSU the immediate years before coming to Michigan. I'm not saying it can never happen, but the person would need to leave MSU or OSU and come back.

I don't think they should hire Narduzzi or any defensive coordinator.  If they did offer though Narduzzi would be insane to say no.  Just like if Florida offers.  Coaches don't turn down that amount of money because they might anger there former boss.  It just doesn't happen.

Narduzzi took 4 years alone to get his defense to even be moderate to respectable level...

He would fail miserably as a head coach not only cause it would take him too long, but because we wouldn't stand for another 3-4 year turn around..

It has to be a big name coach that has experience, not some coordinator...

We need a proven coach. What if Narduzzi doesn't pan out? We will be in the same situation three years from now.

We can't take any chances. Let us not hire another coach without enough accolades and make him a top 10 paid coach without the pedigree.

I'm repping the CC on Jim Tressel all day and twice more on Sunday. Tressel is a monster hire with a proven history of recruiting prowess (with some non institutional support), player development and game day coaching ability. Michigan hasn't had a coach on his level since Bo/Mo and I'm a Lloyd guy.

Tressel would be motivated. This is a nation of forgiveness and second chances.

Wouldn't be the first time something like this happened between these two schools.

See: Fritz Crisler and Clarence Munn

Munn was an assistant here from 1938-1945. Took the job at sparty in 1947 and became their greatest coach.

Not saying I want this guy or that I think it'd happen. But it wouldn't be the first time something like this would happen.

Two years with independent Albright College, then after assisting Crisler he was HC at Syracuse for one season.

It's unusual for assistants to take head coaching jobs at their biggest rivals directly; it's far more common for them to spend some time at an intermediate program before taking the rival's position, which is what Bo did at Miami before coming to UM.

I doubt Narduzzi would come here right now, but regardless I'd be wary of taking a guy with no HC experience unless all our other candidates crapped out.

I love the idea of the tremendous bad blood that would come between the two programs from a hire like this. They would HATE us like never before. Our players would be eager to defend their new coach. Some insane competitiveness is good for football. Probably not going to happen though.

At first I thought this was about the only way left to us to f--- with State, and worthwhile for that reason alone. Then, the other posters convinced me it would be a bad idea. But then I realized all we really want is to get him away from State. (That Dantonio kept his staff intact after last season is prima facie evidence of a pact with Satan, as if we needed more evidence. . .) What say we pay whatever it takes to make him the highest paid head coach in MAC history?

I don't even care.

All I want is competence, success and sustained dominance. That alone may be a presumptive and ridiculous request, but that is what I am after.

By and large, the name of the coach that gets us there is irrelevant.

Tat-gate aside, guy has a NC, head coaching experience and a good W/L record. Also, should'nt be hard to pull him from his present job... He would just have to live with being a Benedict to Buckeye world. But money has done that before...

Bo was an assistant under Woody at Ohio. You guys would be saying the same thing about Bo if we hired him today. We need the best coach available if it is Narduzzi then go ahead and get him. But the main thing about hiring a coordinator is to have a long extensive interview process to make sure he is ready to coach. The problem is again is that Brandon can't evaluate football coaches.
