great participation medal atmosphere provided by the coaches
just great

He was probably taught that from his first day of pee-wee football.
As we say in the South, "Bless his heart."
October 5th, 2014 at 8:51 AM ^
Some context would be nice.
Does anyone here really believe the coaches don't care abiout wins and losses, and make a point of that to the players?
October 5th, 2014 at 10:04 AM ^
The sarcasm in those posts are so thick that I wonder if you're mentally unstable or not.
October 5th, 2014 at 10:28 AM ^
... the heart has been taken out of this team.
October 5th, 2014 at 12:52 AM ^
His non-blocking blocking, it's not even statistic worthy so why bother?
But you can't really blame Funchess, obviously this is a trait that has been reinforced by the coaching staff. And, since he's been doing the non-blocking blocking since the very first snap of his collegiate career, I'll hazard a guess that the "no worries" attitude comes directly from the team Father Figure.

Well, David Brandon did say he wanted to "change the culture" when he hired Hoke...
October 4th, 2014 at 11:55 PM ^
I guess we can stop touting our all-time wins record since wins and losses are just a statistic.
October 5th, 2014 at 12:24 AM ^
I think that was his point. Your record is not going to help you win your next game, it is just a statistic.
October 5th, 2014 at 12:39 AM ^
Careful, now.
Way back in the crazy days and late nights of the first coaching search after Carr, I calculated (and posted here) that Texas could overtake us in about 25 years in this category at the win/loss rates each program had at the time. Fortunately for Michigan since then, TX has had (and continues to have) some issues winning games--so the status quo still holds.
I take the all-time win stat VERY SERIOUSLY as something not be messed with. However, it is within reach by others if we keep this shit up.
Sure, the game and the pride we have in the program is about more than this statistic--but if the day comes when we longer have even this to hold on to, what then? That is your bottom, IMHO.
Fortunately, we are nowhere near that and I do remain confident the next coach gets us back to a familiar place.

Hoke had his Bobby Williams moment in the presser.
Asked whether he'd have a job in Jan and he said "I don't know"
In other news, here is his favorite song.

link to presser vid? please be joking
October 5th, 2014 at 12:14 AM ^
No video up yet. I saw Bogie tweet it.
Hoke asked if he feels he'll still have a job in January: "Oh I don't know. I've got 115 sons to worry about." #Michigan

the.
F.
I have no words. I am stunned at the dramatic fall of this program.
October 5th, 2014 at 12:37 AM ^
I saw that on ESPN right after the game. At first I thought it was kinda ballsy to even ask that question but I guess it doesn't matter if you're going to respond with a nonsensical answer like that.
October 5th, 2014 at 12:55 AM ^
And why?
October 5th, 2014 at 7:25 AM ^
October 6th, 2014 at 1:50 PM ^
It's out of his control and I am guessing he doesn't want the team to hear him actually say he has no chance at returning. I was listening to the pre-game show on WTKA and Jon Jansen was talking about what it was like to play for Coach Carr in his interim role. He said it was tough, that every mistake you make, every missed tackle, etc. you think to yourself, oh man, did I just cost Coach his job? I am sure that's how our current players feel too. No matter what happens to him at the end of the season, I am sure Coach Hoke does not want to remind the players of that.
October 5th, 2014 at 1:19 PM ^
Man....I don't know what I wanted him to say honestly. There really isn't anything that he could have said that would make things any better. Maybe he should have just ignored the question. I dunno
October 5th, 2014 at 12:13 AM ^
That's the most honest answer to a presser quesiton I've heard him give in a while.

hire, loved all the quotes from forner players, his background, his philosophy, etc. That of course didn't work out well. I was not a Hoke fan at his hiring at all, but like most of us converted after 11-2 and recruiting. Sigh.
October 4th, 2014 at 11:57 PM ^

matters

Practice. Practice is what matters.
October 5th, 2014 at 12:36 AM ^
Amen. I'm so freaking sick of hearing how hard they work in practice. Somebody tell these kids that in football, and in life, nobody gives a flying F how hard you practice. Wins matter. This quote is hilarious if true. Sad, and hilarious.

Not playing football with any intensity.
October 5th, 2014 at 12:49 AM ^
This exactly.. it looks like no one out there plays with any intensity at all, at least not on offense..
Deveon was the only RB who looks intense and he looks to be injured now.. Our WR are Horrific and couldn't even get open against the WORST pass defense in the nation last year and near the bottom of the nation this year.. HOW FUCKING PATHETIC\\
Instead we kept trying to run the ball on first and second down, leaving Gardner to make the perfect throw on 3rd down
October 5th, 2014 at 10:01 AM ^
I disagree. I don't think intensity can be generalized across the whole entire defense. To some degree sure but not entirely. I saw a few plays by Taco Charlton last night and a few hits by Jarrod Wilson that would make me think otherwise. I think largely the team just looks out of position at all times. Our secondary made Gary Nova look like Drew Brees reincarnated.
October 5th, 2014 at 11:26 AM ^
the only intensity comes from the young players. who keep getting sent to the bench. or injured. or both.
October 5th, 2014 at 3:55 AM ^
Maybe sexing up some girl on twitter matters. I don't know.
October 5th, 2014 at 12:39 PM ^
How exactly do you "sex up" a girl on twitter?
October 5th, 2014 at 12:47 PM ^
"competition and how hard they work during the week, the way they are with each other and how they treat each other"
they prepared well and traveled well and hoke thinks they ran the ball well - what does the final score matter?
