Hoke never heard about any protocol, because there wasn't one.

It's a simple question, and it's ridiculous that he would refer people to the Medical Department.

This attempted scapegoating of the team's doctors is disgusting.

He said Shane waved off the trainers... and that told him that Shane was fine.

So he's letting the kids tell him when they want to continue playing?  As if this 1st time starting QB would ever tell you to take him out...

This is ridiculous.  Be the damn coach.

I love Michigan football and I can't stand this anymore. Watching this press conference is just brutal. I will not watch another second of Wolverines football until he is gone. He is going down in flames and is soooo angry at the moment.

Just admit you messed up Brady. You messed up big time. Leave the program now.

but I was expecting/hoping for more questions. Like, why did he start Shane in the first place? Did he think Shane gave the team the best opportunity to win the game? Why did Shane start the second half? Why did De'Veon Smith only get 1 carry in the 2nd half? Why wasn't the tackling better? How did the defense get out-leveraged? Why do we continue using an anachronistic punting scheme? Why wasn't Norfleet used? Why didn't Magnuson play? Was Peppers injured or disciplined? Did he really yell at his position coach, causing him to get benched? Will Gardner start working with the WRs? Why couldn't Bellomy find his helmet? Why are guys blowing assignments on defense - I'm referring to the defensive backs that are crashing down on the run action up the middle and leaving the waggle wide freaking open for critical third down conversions.

Sure, the Shane story is front and center today, but there's a lot more that I wanted to be asked.

Yeah, I wanted more good questions too. However, I have to say that since I started paying attention to these pressers, I haven't been impressed at all by the quality of the questions. I don't know the dynamics in the room, so maybe I'm missing something, but it sure seems like the questions are almost always ignorant and weak sauce.

Exactly.  There were at least 40 debacles on the field saturday, only one was addressed by the media.

Why me or anyone is expecting the media to do their job here, I have no idea.  What else would we expect?  This is their M.O.

Drive-by media.

Everyone asked the same questions over and over. Brady wasnt going to give up any info we were looking for.

I was hoping to hear about peppers, the tempo of offense, and other football related stuff. What a sad example of a press conference.

This is an absolute comedy now. What a fucking trainwreck. I just feel helpless because no one is doing anything. It will keep getting worse.

Anyone else notice the @umichfootball radio silence? They tweeted that the presser would happen, but they usually live tweet during pressers. Nothing.

He is the ultimate delgator.  He delegates offense to Nussmeier.  Defense to Mattison.  Special Teams to Ferrigno.  Injury status to the trainers.  Whether or not a player can continue on in the game to the players themselves.

Well Brady, what is it that you would say you do here?

AWESOME!!!

Peter Gibbons: The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.

Bob Porter: Don't... don't care?

Peter Gibbons: It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime, so where's the motivation? And here's something else, Bob: I have eight different bosses right now.

Bob Slydell: I beg your pardon?

Peter Gibbons: Eight bosses.

Bob Slydell: Eight?

Peter Gibbons: Eight, Bob. So that means that when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

Threw medical staff under the bus - Per The Joke - not his responsibility to monitor players health.

With that being said, wish someone would have asked him why under his watch his players aren't playing very well.

"Medical staff will release a statement." "That's hypothetical." Smirking. On and on.

At one point, the journalists were just shocked by the answers that there was silence, no one knew what to ask.

Unbelievable. And this is going to continue for the rest of the season.

This is.... Michigan.

The worst part is. He could make this so much better by admitting he made a mistake.  A lot of the heat would come off if he simply said.

"I was following the ball downfield and did not see the hit. When Shane stumbled I assumed his ankle had given out, but after seeing the replay I think I would have pulled him out after that play to get him checked out to be on the safe side."

A statement like that wouldn't put out out all the fire, but would go a long ways towards restoring his credibility with regards to caring about the players. It would also be like super helpful if he wore a headset. So someone up in the booth with replays could maybe say, Shane got rocked and looks woozy, you need to get him out.

THIS ^^^^ times 1,000.

Even IF Shane's stumble was due to his ankle, Hoke HIMSELF said in the presser that he felt like the hit was targeting--by definition a head-to-head hit on a defenseless player outlawed due to their danger and likelihood of resulting in a concussion.

So, Shane was the recipient of a hit outlawed due to its propensity to cause concussions, he stumbles immediately afterwards to the point where he must be held upright by one of his lineman, and yet he is allowed to waive off the trainer and stay in the game?

Hoke had no way of knowing at the time whether the stumble was caused by a brain injury or an ankle injury, and there was certainly a decent chance that the stumble was due to a concussion (we know this b/c Hoke himself said the hit was targeting).  Yet he doesn't come out immediately AND re-enters the game before the concussion protocols (which take 8-12 minutes to be performed) can be administered.

I understand mistakes occur in the heat of the moment, but from Brady's presser today there is no reason to expect a similar situation would be handled any differently this Saturday.  THAT could put further players at risk.

Fire him now.

The headset thing continues to baffle me.  If I were him I'd not only want to be getting updates like the one you suggested, but to be informed well enough that when a hit like that happens I can be in the officials' faces demanding more than just the 15 yards.  That this happened to our QB, in our house--in front of our fans, students, recruits and team--without a proportional response from Hoke is really disappointing.

The University of Michigan is the laughing stock of the nation. What has this university and it's athletic department come too when they allow this Coach to continue on...

This makes me so angry...
