My wife is English.  I have enjoyed the whole "the US is every bit as good as England since we tied" line o'trash I have been talking over the last four years.  I can't wait for the whole "We're better than England because we advanced" line I will break out this evening.

Without Lukaku in top form, Belgium hasn't looked invincible.  On the other hand... we didn't look even vincible today.  But if we play in R16 like we played against Portugal, sans the first 5 min and last 30 seconds, we have a legit shot at Belgium.  Although that 4-2 friendly loss a year or two ago is on my mind too.

I believe that we will advance on total goal differential!

I dont know the exact lineup v Belgium last year but I wouldnt take too much stock in that result only in that JK was trying a million lineups the past 3 years to find players.

I am going to put Belgium slightly above Portugal level.  They dont have a CR7 of course but they will be a similar matchup and we did ok there.  Every team left other than Greece Nigeria Algeria and Costa Rica has more skill than us - so that's a given.  They are not an impossible matchup like Germany.

If Jozy comes back and Bradley comes out of slump it would be helpful.

Again the other options outside of Costa Rica were Holland, Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Columbia etc as 1st place teams so Belgium is an ok opponent considering it's a group winner (pending the results of this last game).

Boy that was a tense second half but happy that USA is through.  Sort of like watching Michigan football play really well, get a big lead and then win but almost blow it.  It's a result you are fine with but getting there takes several years from your life.

Overall however, good result.  Everything is icing from here.  USA!

First time we've advanced to knockout round in two consecutive World Cups. Nice accomplishment Team USA.

I believe we are a different, better team with Jozy Altidore. May he heal up soon and get back out there as quickly as possible.

Great to see the competitive integrity shown by playing hard to the end even when it didn't really matter anymore. We almost squeaked out the tying goal there at the end, twice!
