OT - Game 2 NBA FinLs (Duncan Robinson)
If you need something to watch this we being, an interesting game going on. Our very own Duncan Robinson is putting on a show in the 4th quarter. Including 5 points off one position, Go Blue
Duncan is 4-4 for 10 pts. All in the 4th. 9:30 left
Weird, just started a topic on the same thing. I'll just post here instead.
If that dork Rudy got his own (successful!) movie, Duncan Robinson's story demands a trilogy.
Dunc has 10 in the 4th quarter, and Miami currently leads Denver 90-85 in Game 2. Entertaining game so far. Anyone who can't appreciate Jokic after this postseason needs a new hobby.
in the movie's stunning climax, it is finally revealed for the first time that he was a D-3 athlete
jaws DROPPING
BONUS: the revelation is made by Kentucky Transfer Charles Matthews
He transferred to Michigan, where he was coached by John Beilein who was never an assistant coach!
When I saw the Matthews reference, I knew this was coming. I was not disappointed.
I agree about Jokic. But the announcers calling him a point guard is a bit much. He looks like a wizard with elite vision and passing ability....nevermind.
Mention Rudy and I first thought of the Michigan great as player and coach, Rudy Tomjanovich.
This is the only Rudy worth mentioning for a Michigan fan...
To hell with any other Rudy
What a turnaround by The Heat
Spo is the best coach in the game.
Greg Popovich says hi.
10 years ago I’d have taken Pop, but in 2023 I’d go with Spoelstra.
(My phone autocorrects to Spoelstra. Interesting.)
Miami up 109 to 103 just under 2 to go
The comeback was fueled by Duncan.
Seriously. 10 pts in the first 2:30 of the 4th quarter. He also opened up the Heat offense by drawing a lot of attention after that. Heat win by 3 to even it 1-1
Jokic has been dominant. His scoring looks effortless. I’m pulling for the Heat, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a “small” market team like the Nuggets win one
Imagine the donut-and-coffee-themed NIL opportunities for DR if it had been available when he was in college. "Fueled by Duncan/Dunkin'."
One of my favorite exchanges from the Dunc and Dak podcast was when Duncan made fun of Dakich's Starbuck's order. It was something along the lines of Dakich asking if Duncan wanted to go get a "cup of joe" and Duncan saying '"you don't order coffee, you order chocolate milk with a shot of espresso."
Denver in 6. Took DRob to get stupid hot and the Heat shooting 90% to even win by 3 lol.
You're fun.
Denver is not exactly scoring 130 a night. This is anyone's series.
And I predict that @#$%^&*( will happen.
Right now though, the Heat surprised the basketball world and UM's Duncan Robinson made a major contribution.
DRobs 8 quick points to start the 4th.
He completely changed the game.
They put him in down 8 and he basically tied it up by himself.
I'm happy Miami pulled it out. I don't care who wins in the end, but a long back and forth Finals is always fun to watch.
DROB!!! (NTDROB)
Duncan provided a spark. 8 straight points exactly when they were needed most. Extended production in the 4th
Love drinking, dude.
So much dude.
DRob is about the only reason I would tune in to an NBA game. I respect the fact that a lot of people enjoy professional basketball, I'm just not one of them.
IMO it went from a team game to 90% 1 on 1 street ball, with more traveling then a band of gypsies.
I hope DRob lights it up in another game or two.... all those who said he'd never make it in the NBA becuz he's a liability on D can eat some crow.
So you’ve never watched Jokic play? You should, if you actually like basketball you’re missing out.
he *is* a defensive liability. it’s why he can’t play 35 minutes a night.
You might want to tell his coach, he’s been playing him over 40 for the majority of the playoffs.
Robinson is absolutely not playing over 40 a game.
Last 5 games: 28, 20, 20, 21, 17. I think 28 may be his playoff high, too.
(Unless you meant Jokic, which, yeah, obviously the 2 time MVP is going to get a lot of minutes)
I was thinking Jokic, so my mistake.
yet he's clearly 'made it' in the NBA
But he is making it in the NBA, so you can eat crow.
lulz I haven't heard/read "street ball" in about a decade.
Tell me you don't know diddly about the NBA without telling me you don't know diddly.
I don't have a horse in the race, but - it's always enjoyable to see Michigan alums doing well.
Go DR...
Awesome back and forth game and great to see Robinson play a huge role!
I predicted Denver in 5 (or mayyyyybe) 6 and I'll stick with that. It took Miami shooting 17-35 from 3 and the still only won by 3 points. Don't think they can keep that up often enough to win 4 of 7 in a series.
Do you think Miami can win two of three at home?
And, on a slight tangent - what do you think of the NBA's scheduling for the Finals? IIRC, the Finals used to be "2-3-2", and this year's schedule is "2-2-1-1-1".
If I'm going to be consistent with my prediction I have to say 'no' lol. As a fan though I'd love to see it go 7 in a competitive series, but I don't think Miami can put together that many lights-out shooting nights.
I remember the 2-3-2, and it seemed like it was overly favorable to the team with the worse record to get three home games in a row - I don't know if results bore that out, just 'feelings-ball' on it. 2-2-1-1-1 seems like a more 'fair' reward to the team with the better overall record.
Glancing at the numbers I tend to think that the results didn't necessarily seem impacted by the 30 years of the 2-3-2, but there were also a lot of years where the NBA had a team that was generally considered "the best/dynasty" - Lakers a few times, Pistons, Bulls, Spurs, toss in Rockets and Heat and Celtics. That right there probably skews the edge towards the finals home teams and also kind of beats down the sample size.
All I know is that it was always super stressful for a fan looking at your team (Pistons in my case) having to stare down a 3 game home stand in the finals.
Well it totally worked in the Pistons' favor in the 2004 "5-game sweep" vs the Lakers.
They switched to 2-2-1-1-1 about a decade ago.
I think it's better. 2-3-2 was easier from a travel standpoint, but problematic from a competitive angle. Both 1) giving the underdog three straight home games and 2) giving the favorite games 6 and 7 at home seem unfair. 2-2-1-1-1 is more balanced.
I think they should change back to 2-3-2 mainly because winning on the road in the playoffs seems a lot more common now compared to when they made the change. The road team in the Boston Miami series was 5-2!
Maybe, but I think teams would still rather be at home if they have the choice. Boston-Miami was just a crazy series all around (3-0 turning into 4-3).
IIRC, the thinking was that it was actually more of a disadvantage for the underdog team to have three straight at home, especially since you had to pay the piper with Games 6 + 7 at the favorite's arena. The underdog team in a 2-3-2 had never swept the middle 3 until 2004 (i.e., a whole 20 seasons), though it happened two more times in 2006 and 2012. Conversely the favored team won 3 in a row on the road three times prior (1990, 1991, and 2001)
