OT: NDSU Bison use 4 fullbacks on rushing TD
Credit Bill Connelly for finding this, hope the embed works. I assume you would be hard pressed to find any team with 4 fullbacks on the roster let alone on the field at the same time. Fullbacks blocking for fullbacks sounds very Iowa.

Those FBs look remarkably like TEs.
Iowa should list their entire offensive roster as punters.

Sounds like an Iowa or Wisconsin wet dream.

eh....I think our own Coach Harbaugh would join the nocturnal emission on that one

Across the Black Hills a ghostly maniacal laughter could be heard, and some said it sounded like the late Bo Schembechler.

I don't think 'fullback' is always the correct term. I liked Brian's "Blocky-catchy" category of football player.

blocky-catchy is TE or H-Back. FB is blocky-catchy-carry.

Little bummed out, I thought for sure that I would see 4 FBs in a wishbone with one playing QB.

I thought I would see an actual Bison as the lead blocker. 🦬

And the winner of the Walter Payton award is. ... not the NDSU fullback.

I thought NSFW content was frowned upon here

This isn't an Iowa or Wisconsin site.

The play itself doesn't look four-full-backy ... I expected it to be more mashy-plowy.

They also pulled out the old Straight-T formation. Love it!

It's a thing of beauty. Imagine Murderface, Hammering Panda, [Asiasi?] and Bredeson's brother all lined up in the backfield.
October 3rd, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
That's clearly 3 FBs, not 4.
October 3rd, 2022 at 10:38 AM ^
Very cool, but please no one show this to Jim Harbaugh
October 3rd, 2022 at 10:45 AM ^
Right? This is something Harbaugh would love to emulate...
October 3rd, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
He probably has already watched this play 1,000 times in his dreams.

too late

Now this is sicko content. And not OT imo

I saw on some highlights that one of the commentators said that osu sometimes brings in an extra OL to give the qb time to find guys down field and routes to develop. Wonder if a wrinkle like that would do well for us, since most assume that equals... pound up the middle.
I'm not an X's and O's guy but, I do notice that WRs are flying open down field on crossing patterns, out patterns etc.. and not always catching it and falling down... for other teams. Our guys tend to be catching and immediately needing to change direction, catching in traffic and getting hit, or catching and falling down.
Not criticizing but always wonder how QBs and WRs on some of these other teams have guys flying open all over the place. Wondering if we try to get the ball out of JJ's hands quicker...

That might be the most North Dakota State thing ever.

Based on their mascot, this seems very on-brand

I would like to call this "stampede formation"

Harbaugh when he got his first job:
"When I got my first coaching job at the University of San Diego I called my coach, Bo Schembechler and told him I was head coach at the University of San Diego, before he said ‘congratulations’ or anything he said, ‘Jimmy, tell me you’re going to have a tight end that puts his hand in the ground on every snap. Tell me that you will have a fullback that lines directly behind the quarterback and a halfback in the I-formation.’" Harbaugh replied, "‘Yes coach, we will have that.’" To which Schembechler said, "‘Good. Congratulations on getting the job."

Sounds like an idea worth exploring. I mean, the physical challenge is to bring as much pressure to bear at some point along the line as you can. A line is a line; the ball-carrier has to cross it at some point. Why not put another guy behind it? Might be missing something, but I wouldn't be surprised if this gets adopted. Could reduce the number of successful goal line stands?

Joke’s on them—as the old saying goes, when you have four fullbacks, you don’t have one.

What? No intent to deceive called?
