Simpson drives into street pole, whistled for a charge
Now we know.
ANN ARBOR, MI - Zavier Simpson drove a vehicle into a street pole while driving hours after after Michigan’s loss to Illinois last month, police said.
Officers discovered the senior point guard outside of a vehicle that made contact with a pole on the corner of Hill Street and South Forest Avenue at 3:03 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, Ann Arbor police said.
Officers asked Simpson if he was the driver, and he at first denied it, police said. He later owned up to the crash after further investigation, police said.

Hope they asked why his turnovers are up.

So Simpson is for sure getting away with a dui with a one game suspension and no record. Pretty sweet deal for him.

All we know is he got ticketed for driving too fast. I don't know why everyone feels the need to gossip about this. It's none of our business.
February 6th, 2020 at 2:08 PM ^
I’m actually peeved the cops didn’t release all the information. If this was MSU, we’d be screaming corrupt cops.
1 game isn’t enough for a DUI. If he was in the gray zone, then I hope he learned his fucking lesson. Driving impaired in 2020 is so god damn stupid with Uber Lyft etc.
February 6th, 2020 at 2:12 PM ^
Cops showed up after he was standing outside the car, and gave him a ticket for driving too fast. Think about that, they have no clue how fast he was driving, they got there when the car was stopped. You don't see how this smells rotten?
February 6th, 2020 at 2:24 PM ^
That's not how it works. Any time you crash your vehicle you can be issued a ticket for "driving too fast for conditions". There is no set limit on that. If you crash going 10 m.p.h. due to icy conditions you can be issued a ticket for driving too fast
February 6th, 2020 at 2:27 PM ^
You know what also is not how it works? If you or I are standing outside that car at 3 am and lie to the police...no way we don't get questioned for a DUI and given a ticket for driving too fast and sent on our way. Let's be as naive as possible here and say he wasn't drinking...if you lie to police it's not going to end well.
February 6th, 2020 at 3:36 PM ^
It’s also possible he was impaired by something that a breathalyzer wouldn’t detect...
February 6th, 2020 at 3:39 PM ^
Possible, either way when you lie to the cops they aren't going to give you the benefit of the doubt unless you are a UM athlete.

love?
February 6th, 2020 at 9:50 PM ^
Mitch i don't know what you could be implying.
I am sure he was just confused with the late hour and strange surroundings, and foreign car.
Thank you for your support and only one game suspension.
February 6th, 2020 at 3:42 PM ^
Why do you think he wasn’t questioned for DUI?
February 6th, 2020 at 9:55 PM ^
Thank you for being so dense sir, i wish everybody could be like you.
I would say it's common occurrence on campus for students at 3am to become disoriented, borrow the ADs car , wrap it around a pole and forget their name. All that studying takes a toke. I mean a toll.
Thank you for your support

1 game for being a dumbass and out at 3AM and crashing your car and initially lying to police....sure.
Not a huge fan of only a 1 game suspension if there was any legal impairment going on
February 6th, 2020 at 1:52 PM ^
Why would you suspend a kid for a simply making contact with a pole why driving?
Nothing to see here....
February 6th, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
Street poles now with a 37-5 FT advantage over Michigan this season.
February 6th, 2020 at 2:22 PM ^
No breathalyzer? Hmm. Also, the Ann Arbor News FOIAed the footage and were denied.
February 6th, 2020 at 3:10 PM ^
Do you think a non athlete would have his footage hidden from a FOIA request?
February 6th, 2020 at 3:32 PM ^
In fairness no one would probably FOIA request the video of a non athlete
February 6th, 2020 at 5:41 PM ^
You didn't see drunk Rebekah Warren all over the news?
ANYONE at all known will get this stuff FOIA'ed
February 6th, 2020 at 4:13 PM ^
they would say its an on-going investigation. SOP with most departments, and has nothing to do with the D-1 in the UD-10. (the driver in the accident report)
February 6th, 2020 at 9:47 PM ^
Sir why would there be a breathalyzer? He may have just been sleepy. Or disoriented. Happens to everybody, right?
Thank you for your support.

Well at least he had a one game suspension. I remember Chris Rucker from the MSU football team did the something similar and was playing against Iowa the next week. Gonna miss the good discipline from Mork and MSU.

Accountability at it's finest.

hector, what a waste of your $5.
worse yet, what a waste of your life to attempt to weakly troll. sad for you. suggest you get a hobby.
February 6th, 2020 at 3:10 PM ^
Did he rip the street pole's jersey and blow the game in the process?
February 6th, 2020 at 4:38 PM ^
But was the street pole's jersey ripped?
EDIT: Oh no. I didn't see this was two pages and posted the same joke as someone had an hour+ earlier. I deserve your shame.

It's all good; we've all been there.
February 6th, 2020 at 4:50 PM ^
You know, like in situations when people hit our equipment, it's the bill from damage claims and then the hassle that your insurance company will unleash (for that's who we send the bill to) that are usually the worst in such situations.
February 6th, 2020 at 4:57 PM ^
Curious if it was his car.
February 6th, 2020 at 5:14 PM ^
I see a lot of assumptions on here regarding his level of impairment. Maybe he was drinking earlier and stopped. Maybe he had some drinks but wasn't drunk. Either way, he's of legal age. Maybe he was hungry at 3 am and went to get food. Maybe he was going to get laid. None of us were there, and to assume he was hammered is ridiculous. Go find another team to root for if you're on your soapbox calling for a longer suspension.

Thank you for your support sir. Makes perfect sense. My story. I mean his story.
February 6th, 2020 at 6:10 PM ^
It was a car owned by Warde Manuel.
Uh-oh?

Hi,
I am new to the board. Nice to meet you all.
Does anybody need a ride tonight?
No, i don't look familiar, i have no idea what you are talking about.
I have never played basketball sir.
February 6th, 2020 at 9:53 PM ^
The article i read on bleacher report said in addition to saying he wasn't the driver he also gave the police a fake name! But they recognized him from the basketball team. Yeah this is not good.
