let me guess, beilein said, 'what the h-e-double-hockey-sticks are you looking at?!' when they missed the head shot to Z.

if you tossed beilein, you (the ref) probably need to not be a ref ever again.  go back to ymca ball.

Yes.  He took 5 steps, but the NBA didn't acknowledge it.  Really difficult to get it right in real time -- but with the benefit of replay not so much.

Oh, well, it's just a game and that is the truth.  Ilhan Omar dealing with more serious BS.

50/50 calls are one thing, no need getting upset about those. The beef is the sheer incompetence on obvious stuff. Missing the obvious illegal screen at the end of the half and then throwing the coach out who was walking away, missing Simpson getting fouled multiple times and run over on the steal and then the obvious double dribble missed. Those are calls that should not be missed if the officials aren't complete dogshit, that is 9 points right there on those three calls.

Here is what gets me, Beilein doesn't say jackshit to the officials most of the time. He says a couple words in something he was completely right about, turns to walk away and gets a technical, essentially baiting him into the second one. Meanwhile you have guys like Izzo that constantly scream at the officials all game even when they aren't right about the call and don't get hit with jack. Yes Michigan played like shit but that was a five point swing at the end half by missing that call and then baiting two technicals instead of just letting him say his peace and walking away like Beilein did. The double standard displayed by the officials for what coaches can get away is not something that can be justified regardless of what the team played like tonight. It is absurd.

The officials performance tonight was every bit as embarrassing as Michigan's. Missing something as simple as a double dribble and then the possession where Simpson got fouled probably four times at least before the steal, including being run over was honestly worse than anything the first half to boot. And that non call on Simpson was pretty big because the momentum was shifting at that point.

If I was Beilein, I would go out of my way to earn a fine from the league.  Something like, “I can accept incompetence from B1G, officials, and frankly, I have come to expect it.  But can they at least make an effort to protect the players?  Someone is going to get hurt because they don’t know how to do their jobs.”

One of the few times you can say this but Beilein didn't have his team ready to play tonight. PSU kicked our butts up and down the court in the first half and a lot of it was just hustling to loose balls and grabbing rebounds. We didn't get out on shooters and pretty much phoned it in on defense in the first 20 minutes. This team has major issues away from Crisler.

Two things can be true at the same time. Michigan's performance was bad to say the least and the officials were even worse. Both can be true. And as the previous poster said dude throwing an elbow on a screen is something the officials can't let happen. That is a player safety issue.  I mean the officials were so incompetent tonight they didn't even call one of the most obvious double dribbles you will ever see. Essentially the non call when Simpson was fouled on the one steal, the non double dribble call and the exchange at the end of the first half was a 9 point swing. I don't care how bad a team plays that in no way excuses the officials for having that big of an impact by missing obvious stuff

God I wish he would've said the following

"I dont want to get fined so im not going to criticize the officials, instead im just going to state a few facts:

1. My team is 22-0 when this crew doesnt officiate the game.  0-3 when they do.

2. I havent been tossed from a game since Jimmy Carter was President.  Tonight I was.

3. Three first half fouls is Penn State's lowest first half foul total in three years.

4. If that crew is assaigned to another one of our games i will pull my team off the court and will forfeit.  I will leave it up to our commissioner who assaigned the officials to explain why."

Basketball officiating isn't done with crews.  They're individuals.

Michigan is 1-3 in '18-19 when Lewis Garrison is a referee.  (He worked the Norfolk State game).  They were 1-0 last year (Alabama A&M), 1-0 in '16-17 (that horrible game @Rutgers), and he didn't work any of their games in '15-16.  That's as far back as KenPom's referee charts go.  He hasn't worked an NCAA Tournament game in the past three seasons.

They are 3-1 this year when Robert Riley is a referee: the Providence, Binghamton, and Minnesota games.  And they are 3-1 this year when Paul Szelc is a referee: Purdue, the first PSU game, and the home game vs. Northwestern.

He can't say any of that stuff, publicly anyway or pull his team, privately he should make his displeasure known to the big ten, and point out calls where he disagreed with the refs.  Publicly he can pull a Phil Jackson before the next MSU game, and say, I expect a good game, if we get a fair whistle.

You can say what you will about this game, and I agree with anyone who says it was more or less shit, but I love the fire in Beilein. He advocates for his players in a way that someone coaches probably wouldn't dare, even in the face of an off night.

I just really want to hear a valid justification from the people saying don't complain on how Beilein can be totally right, say a couple words, get a technical after he is already walking away and then getting baited into the second, but yet guys like Izzo can scream at the officials all game. Like do the dogshit Big Ten officials even realize how inconsistent that is? Official should have let Beilein say his peace like they allow others do and walked away like Beilein was doing, instead of creating a 3 point swing.

Look, we played like ass and didnt deserve to win.  PsU seemed to get every 50/50 ball too.  Some of it was luck, other was hustle.

But those refs were horrible tonight.  How they called Iggy for his 2nd when he didnt even touch a guy, yet they let PSY set illegal screens.  They missed an OBVIOUS double dribble.  It was a shishow of a game all around

I know it's likely been said ad nauseam in this thread and the other, but I don't want to read all of them and I just need to be Mad Online for a second; Iggy's second foul, Simpson getting blown up on the screen, and the double dribble were 3 of the worst no calls I have ever seen.

It is just really bizarre to me that it seems like guys like Izzo are almost rewarded for treating the officials like shit and then guys like Beilein who treat them well can get punished more harshly when they do say something. It is really ass backwards.

Obviously missed moving screen - 2 points

Double Technical resulting from obviously missed moving screen - 3 points

Obviously missed double dribble - 2 points

Penn State Margin of Victory - 6 points

but but but "you should've played well enough to take them out of the equation"

this was horrendous and refs need more oversight. Hope Warde and Coach B rip the B1G a new one on this.
