Brady Hoke back at SDSU

as DLine coach.

there were some hard feelings when he left, I remember Kyle Turley being especially upset,  but I’d imagine the success they’ve had under Rocky Long has helped mend that. And you could do worse in terms of a place to live.

He will spend a couple of years there and then go back to Ball State as a Special Teams Coordinator.  He is going backwards and doing a full circle for his career.  Eventually, he will wind up at GVSU where it all started and be the Defensive Line Coach.

Rocky Long just turned 69, maybe Hoke is head coach in waiting?

"I would have walked to SDSU to coach D-Line"

"This is SDSU for god's sake"

Any time.

He was terrible, but since it took years to recover from his offensive recruiting (offensive as in really bad but also offensive as in that side of the ball) we can laude him for trying hard.

We can all shit on RR but because Brady coached at M prior, we can't talk about how bad it was. Okay then.

The SDSU DL coach Hoke replaces is Ernie Lawson, a former player of Hoke's at SDSU and a former graduate assistant under Hoke at U-M.

I don’t get the “feel sorry for him” crowd. To me it would be like feeling sorry for someone who got dumped by a supermodel...after being with her for several years. Hey, you did something most people don’t get to do. And got paid a lot of money to do it.

This made me remember Brandon telling Hoke that he wanted to hire him without an agreed upon salary (just like like Bo!) and then Hoke's attorney/agent taking Brandon behind the woodshed for that dumb as rocks attempt at a PR stunt. SMDH  We've come a long ways, folks!

Good for Brady. I can't imagine how tumultuous his life has been since his "dream job" failed in such epic fashion which I place a great deal of the blame upon the corporate stooge David Brandon for even hiring him. Brady was not even close to being ready to handle a massive job such as the head coach of Michigan football. Brandon hired him because he knew he could control him and that coaches such as Jim Harbaugh or Les Miles would never put up with his arrogant narcissist bullshit. Terrible for Brady Hoke who loved Michigan and was a good position coach for them. At least he is comfortable with SDSU and Rocky Long and cam probably retire from there. Brandon was a massive disaster for Michigan and was granted his time in the beginning because he fired Rich Rod which was a clown show and strung along to make Brandon look good. Thank God he is gone and the jackass i'm sure parachuted out of Toy's R Us with millions.

Tumultuous? Come on, man.

You make it sound like he's endured some personal tragedies. Sure, he's been let go from a few places and being fired from your dream job hurts. But he could've stopped working for good right after he got fired from Michigan and still had enough for a pretty good retirement for the rest of his life. He's walked away from his most recent gigs with millions of dollars in hand. And for some of the places he's been fired from since (specifically Oregon and Tennessee), he signed on to sinking ships that were more or less already doomed by the time he showed up, so he doesn't have to bare all of the blame in getting fired from those places. Especially Tennessee. Butch Jones was a dead man walking going into 2017, so Hoke getting fired that year was more explained by "wrong place, wrong time."

Life could be so much worse. He will never have to worry about where his next meal comes from, putting a roof over his family's head, wondering if he'll have enough money to live off of when he retires, being remembered as a good man or good husband/father, etc. I won't pretend that being fired doesn't suck. It does. I've been fired before so I get it. But he's got more than enough money to ride off into the sunset with and call it a career.

I'd happily swallow my pride and get fired multiple times in exchange for millions of dollars.

It must be awkward to work for one of your former employees (especially the guy who was promoted to replace you when you left for greener pastures), but glad to see that Hoke landed on his feet.

On the radio this morning Rocky said that Hoke is the best DL coach he's ever met.  SDSU should be getting a new stadium in the coming years which I think could help a lot with recruiting, when/if it happens.  As a previous poster mentioned, Hoke could be lined up to take over when Rocky retires.

He's arriving just in time to save the day.

Rocky Long had a 3-3-5 scheme. And the Aztecs lose their entire front 3 and OLB going into 2019.

DL will be a reconstruction site.

I know people are saying they still respect Hoke but honestly the way he handled the Morris injury situation during the Minnesota game made me lose all respect for him. He flat out endangered a player.

I would file that under Hoke not being ready (or not being cut out) to be a head coach on the big stage. The graveyard of coaching careers is filled with those who succeeded at lower-level schools but fell flat on their faces when they took on a Power 5 jobs and the additional responsibilities and scrutiny that comes with it.

Apparently, never in danger, per statements made by the Morris family and the team neurologist that attended to Morris during the game who is on record as saying that he wouldn't allow any player (no naming names, privacy) to play if they appeared to have a concussion. (If you rewatch the ESPN broadcast you will see in the background that Morris is talking to the training staff after the hit.)  The next day, the hospital with more time to review and more equipment said that Morris had a slight concussion.  While the whole episode looked like the keystone cops, it appears that no one was in danger more than anyone else in any football game.

No he was actually in danger because he was playing on a bad leg that day and had no mobility behind an o-line that couldn't block. So you/others can excuse it all you want but Hoke left a QB with no mobility behind a bad line to take shot after shot in a game that was not winnable/over. So yes that was endangering a player more than usual, so fuck Brady Hoke.

I remember after we beat SDSU in 2011 that Rocky Long told the media he guaranteed that Hoke would win a national title at Michigan. You got tomorrow's lottery numbers too, bud?!
