This would seriously suck if DB leaves...
December 31st, 2018 at 10:52 AM ^
Yeah, I think DB is a great coach who needs a chance to show how he can adjust. And so did all of the people calling for his scalp five minutes ago. But--hey--nobody ever accused a lynch mob of acting from a cool rational position. When a herd stampedes it takes strength to resist.
December 30th, 2018 at 10:45 PM ^
College football is so fucking gross sometimes. How many days was Diaz coach at Temple? Players are ridiculed constantly for flipping commitments and transferring, but coaches pull off shit like this and are lauded. Absolutely disgusting
December 30th, 2018 at 10:48 PM ^
Correct. Yet there are so many more "fans" out there who spend a ton of time tweeting at and lambasting teenage kids for changing their minds.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:07 PM ^
True...we call players selfish for sitting out but a coach last 17 days on the job. He received LOI from recruits thinking they were going to at for him.
December 30th, 2018 at 10:52 PM ^
Another position opened up. It's called climbing the ladder, something nobody should be chastised for.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:52 PM ^
Including players
December 30th, 2018 at 10:59 PM ^
I'd love for some reporter to ask a coach like Dabo Swinney or Mike Gundy what they think of this. I'm sure there's more, but those are two of the more outspoken coaches who have been outspoken/critical of players transferring
December 31st, 2018 at 1:03 AM ^
Ask Mike Leach. Please!
December 30th, 2018 at 11:00 PM ^
Absolutely. "Commit to the school, not the coach" apparently doesn't apply to the guys being paid millions of dollars.
Every recruit at Miami and Temple should be able to decommit right now if they want.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:15 PM ^
Agree - I won't root for Diaz at all if he does this. He signed on to coach at Temple and a number of Temple recruits signed on the dotted line thinking he would be their coach. At this point, I feel Diaz owes Temple one year (the 2019 season).
I saw Chris Beard on the train at the Denver airport this past summer. I felt like making a smart-ass comment to him, something about Las Vegas. But I kept my mouth shut. I certainly don't like it when it happens in college hoops. College football is even WORSE though, given the timing of signing day.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:20 PM ^
The rumor is Diaz has 30 days to make it final in his contract. This is still well within that range
December 31st, 2018 at 1:00 AM ^
Diaz at Temple outlasted Enos at Michigan!
December 31st, 2018 at 8:21 AM ^
If a HEAD coach VOLUNTARILY leaves prior the late signing period, the recruits should be able to re-open recruitment without penalty.
December 30th, 2018 at 10:46 PM ^
Uh oh
December 30th, 2018 at 10:48 PM ^
If it’s Brown so be it. We’ll find a d-coordinator.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:01 PM ^
Who? Name one. I wanna know who's gonna come in here and do better than Don Brown
Literally give me a name. Not one single one of you DB haters has EVER given me a name. Ever. I'm listening.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:04 PM ^
.....maybe 'cuz we are not head coaches???
December 30th, 2018 at 11:08 PM ^
I'm thinking, I'm thinking.....
December 31st, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
Seriously? That's your best response? He was okay. Just okay, as a DC. Do you not remember giving up a score at the end of virtually every half of every game? Not to mention dude is already past retirement age, and probably only has another year or two left in him.
Yet the peanut gallery still upvotes it. I just don't understand this place anymore. It has changed so much.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:10 PM ^
Bryan Brown App St. People already saying he’s ready to move up in weight class
He actually just went to Louisville with the App St head coach, but could be had
December 30th, 2018 at 11:13 PM ^
One year as a DC.
Would be risky.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:20 PM ^
I think Partridge is a fantastic, up and coming coach.. but I cannot understand the desire to bump him up to DC (folks on twitter are debating that). Isn't that a huge step from what his experience is?
December 30th, 2018 at 11:25 PM ^
I agree. The plan is for CP to take over for Don Brown (that's what kept him away from alabama) but it was more of a 5 year plan than a 1 year succession plan. I'm not super confident he's the best DC we could get right now.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:33 PM ^
He’s done well with the special teams
December 31st, 2018 at 8:28 AM ^
Harbaugh should do exactly what he did when he hired Brown. Go out and find a Power 5 or NFL DC that is doing a great job with less talent. Show me a DC that is keeping his team in games with inferior talent and I will show you a DC that will do a great job at Michigan. Get a PROVEN DC!
December 31st, 2018 at 9:40 AM ^
Agree. He's a really good coach, and with time could be an outstanding DC at Michigan. But Michigan is not a stepping stone school to go from LB and ST position coach to DC. He needs more experience before doing that.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:16 PM ^
So that means there isn't a replacement for him?
December 30th, 2018 at 11:17 PM ^
I’m not a DB hater at all. Relax - you are freeking out as though he’s already been hired. I tell you one thing - I’m not going to sit up worrying about something I have no control over. At the end of the day, it’s Brown’s decision to make if the job is offered. Harbaugh gets paid to worry about this not me.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:28 PM ^
Wait now Don brown is not replaceable?
Jesus you guys are like battered housewives. Consistently convinced the grass is always better with what you got.
I recall DJ Durkin having 3 shut out games in a row in 2015. He shit the bed against OSU just like Brown
No I’m not saying hire him. That’s just one example of a guy here who had similar success as Brown. Oh and Greg Mattison
December 30th, 2018 at 11:49 PM ^
Well apparently when Harbaugh got Don Brown he googled top defensive coordinators, so....
according to S&Ps defensive rankings a handful of names that may be willing to come to Michigan:
Pete Kwiatkowaki (Washington)
Bert Watts (Fresno)
Kevin Kane (NIU)
Matt House (UK)
And the list can go on and on. Anyways I’m not saying I would be excited for Don Brown to leave but there are plenty of people out there that can beat up on the meatball opponents with broken QBs and then get hamblasted by OSU.
December 31st, 2018 at 12:12 AM ^
Also Jim Leavitt and Harbaugh go way back. IIRC he was named as a candidate back when DB was hired.
If Michigan is willing to pay Pep money (1.5 million) they can basically go after anyone they want.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:53 PM ^
Since your listening Truferblue had you asked the same question the last DC opening nobody would have mentioned Don Brown. I don't want to lose Brown but if he goes he goes.
December 31st, 2018 at 4:17 AM ^
With this type of logic Alex Smith would still be QB’ing KC. I’m sure some in there fan base were saying “why get rid of a QB who led us to a division title?”...look how that turned out! You can not be afraid of change, when you see the current situation can be improved.
December 30th, 2018 at 10:51 PM ^
Fingers crossed we can get rid of Brown (and Pep)
December 30th, 2018 at 10:52 PM ^
You are fucking dumb to want brown gone! He’s had two bad games in three years! You are an idiot!
December 30th, 2018 at 10:53 PM ^
3 bad games in 2 years
December 31st, 2018 at 11:06 AM ^
FSU
SOUTH CAROLINA
PSU
OSU
FLORIDA
INDIANA
Thats way more than 3. Do I want Don Brown to leave? No. Will I be devastated if he does? No.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:33 AM ^
I agree, be careful what you wish for. But he has had more than two bad games. He had two bad games to end season. And if you count Rutgers and Indiana, maybe 4 straight bad games. Also, PSU in 2017. Again, no one should wish him out the door, but the Don Brown defense is starting to show cracks that is consistent enough to be concerning. I for one was hoping Brown would right the ship against Florida, but the defense did not look prepared.
December 30th, 2018 at 10:54 PM ^
I certainly wasn't a fan of the OSU game on defense, but... I'm not ready for him to leave. I'll ask the question others will ask -
If Brown leaves, then who?
December 30th, 2018 at 11:06 PM ^
Chris Partridge?
December 30th, 2018 at 11:16 PM ^
He’d have to be on the short list I think
December 30th, 2018 at 11:02 PM ^
This guy probably thinks Ken Holland's doing a good job too.
December 30th, 2018 at 10:52 PM ^
Not surprised. If he knew Richt was leaving he would never have taken the Temple job.
My question is why Miami isn’t aiming higher. Why stay in house after a 7-6 season and a large number of decommits
December 30th, 2018 at 11:45 PM ^
Manny Diaz is a Miami guy through and through. His father was the mayor of Miami.
The U is his dream job.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:49 PM ^
Reached out to Urban Meyer and he said he needed to sit out a year to make his retirement and comeback seem legit
December 30th, 2018 at 10:55 PM ^
Temple just Made 4 Million dollars in like 7 days... Nice Buyout in that contract Temple Well Played.
December 30th, 2018 at 10:55 PM ^
Can’t wait for posters to complain about kids chasing opportunities and looking out for number one in the wake of a coach doing the same thing. This is exactly why I won’t ever complain about kids skipping bowl games.
December 30th, 2018 at 11:24 PM ^
Someone's out for blood in the "I'm a better fan than you people" contest in the wake of this bowl game.
