OT: Significant other Christmas gift thread
As a serial procrastinator (I'm sure some of you are as well) I still have a few gifts to get for my wife. After 30 years of marriage it's getting pretty hard to come up with good ideas and avoid buying her the same shit I've bought before.
What are some things you've bought for your significant other? Might serve as an idea for another poor slob like me who is still looking to do some last minute shopping.
BTW I drove by a Costco and there was a line around the building. Lord have mercy...

Amazon has a 55 gallon drum of lube. I kid you not. Of course, she'll want to know just what you have in mind for all that . . .

Jim Jefferies (on gifts for spouses or sig-nif others), "its a mathematical equation that every man has in his head, and it goes like this, “How much money do I have to spend today so that you won’t act like a c*nt?”"
perhaps you could apply the Pythagorean theorem to arrive at proper gift/amount, but typically its a moving target

"I spare her the rod for a day .She's grateful"
-msu or osu significant other (depending on how you interpret the word "rod").

I feel bad for laughing out loud at that. I'm an awful person.

Is she into music? Tickets to a concert she might enjoy with a planned dinner out beforehand always works for me... the better the seats are, the better you look!

mgowife never wants anything, or the few things she ever wants, she wants to be the one to pick out but because we're so busy, she never ends up picking out anything. i talked her into letting me get her/us a very large sofa/love seat/chaise deal a couple of weeks ago. i am trying to talk her into letting me install new cabinets and counter tops, carpet, and redoing the floors. she says wait until all the kids are gone but that will be another decade. maybe you will have better luck?
things i get for her: gift certificates to fav store; little interesting food things at a local cool store, things like unique jellies, marinades, teas, stuff like that. she specifically asked for (and i immediately purchased) some stuff from the M-Den yesterday. hopefully something helpful in that list.

I special ordered a couple gifts with memorable photos, takes about a week to come in though. Among a few other gifts, but I'm finished now. ideas are Concert tickets, massage, Liquor, and you can't go wrong with a nice pair of slippers and/or PJ's.
Hit the stores at 7AM tomorrow to beat the rush, Godspeed!

Hamilton the musical. It’s traveling now so you don’t have to go to NYC. Can spend whatever you want on tickets and go to a fancy dinner before. That’s what I’m doing. Hopefully it’s good enough.

I like to surprise her, but looks like it's going to be an extra vacation this year. Boring Christmas morning, but it'll be fun...for both of us. Vegas it is.
She bought me a new Cheeseburger machine.
December 22nd, 2018 at 6:10 PM ^
Cheeseburger machine? does this mean a grill or is there some magical machine that produces cheeseburgers that I don't know about?

Draw/paint a picture of significant other, along with gift cards, some wine, and a candle of course.
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:21 PM ^
Think she’ll like it? It took me a little while shading the upper lip, but it’s probably the best drawing I’ve ever done.
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:51 PM ^
She’s a very lucky girl.

Go with the sweet portrait tat, always a winner.
Tell her "You're always with me.", she'll cry.

I’ve never seen Chewbacca wear earrings before.

Got her a treadmill. It works on numerous levels!
December 22nd, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
A knife. Seriously. She likes knives.
Guys, if I...like...don't post for a while...just pray for my soul, ok?

How did a pope get married?
December 22nd, 2018 at 3:24 PM ^
Screw prayers, I will avenge your death.

My wife asked for a 22 rifle. I thought about that for a while and got her something else.
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:01 PM ^
She got another band for her wedding ring after 5 years.
I guess after dealing with with me for just that long, it’s deserved.

My chick works as a speech pathologist for a school system, so she gets her summers off. I got her an inground pool and a privacy fence so she doesn't have to lay out on a hot deck all summer again. My life savings took a huge dent, so I told her this birthday (in Nov) and Christmas season were covered in that project. I'll probably still get the side eye for not getting anything.
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:49 PM ^
If she gives you a "side eye" after buying her a $35K pool & $10k fence I'd trade her in for a new model
December 22nd, 2018 at 3:21 PM ^
Women throw out all logic when Christmas season comes around. I can't walk into a room or wash my hands without smelling like every holiday-related scent on Earth. Candles, soaps, real-tree smelling bullshit to put on fake trees, etc etc etc
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
Got her an HP Spectre x360 laptop for her salon business. Expensive, but she needs it for photo retouching, etc.
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
I miraculously found her "wish list" on her Amazon account. She never said a word about it, never mentioned she was keeping any "lists" and I had never seen it even though I have access.
Click-click-click-click-click: shopping done. (Damn you Bezos and your way-too-effective capitalist monolith!)
Also got her some trinkets from her favorite kitchen store and a vest she didn't ask for but I liked (If you like how she looks in it, it's really a gift for you- I ain't no dummy).

Bought my wife a 10" android tablet...I was buying her Amazon Fire tablets but they're funky in some ways plus Amazon tracks your habits...not a fan of that.
Perfume, fuzzy slippers, earrings, lipstick (color I like to see in certain situations), flannels and some other odds and ends
December 22nd, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
those fire tabs are garbage stew plus, you're locked into the Amazonian ecosystem.

I've been fortunate to have found some good stuff to give in the last few years. My wife loves to cook (and she's terrific at it) and she loved the chef coat I got her a couple of years ago. For her birthday two years ago I got her a covered bench swing which we both enjoy sitting on in the spring and summer after a long day.
She's not an expert on any instrument (though she has, self-taught, progressed on the piano to the point where she can fill in for our regular pianist in church) but she enjoys playing on a number of them, including a couple she has picked up for free or from the occasional garage sale. Back in November she idly mentioned that she enjoys the sound of cellos and that they would be more enjoyable to play that violins (in context, I think Master and Commander was on the tv).
A couple of Amazon gift cards that I earned and the $100 budget I had for her gift later and I got her the bargain cello they sell on Amazon. She loves it. It might not be the sort of thing Yo Yo Ma would be impressed with, but it's pretty cool.

Tickets to a concert/show + dinner...or something that is an "experience," as opposed to a gift.

Same thing as always, a case of motor oil.

I got my wife a new winter coat and leather gloves, a couple of soft flannels, compression socks (she works in an ER and is on her feet all day), her favorite bath soaps, several Mandalas geometric pattern coloring books (their supposedly stress relievers). Assorted stocking knick knacks.
And I'm cooking Christmas dinner for the two of us so she can just kick back and relax all day.
She got me new tires for my Tahoe in September so I'm covered.

My wife is about as high-society as it gets. With that said, her favorite Christmas present I ever got her was a $30 fishing pole. And by the way, that same year I bought her a diamond tennis bracelet. That was many years ago.
Today, we don't exchange gifts, which takes a lot of pressure off of both of us. We don't buy for anyone other than our kids. And since they live a pretty good life, their x-mas budgets are maybe $200 each. And most of that comes straight from Amazon. We have learned to make Christmas as stress-free as possible.

We live in Texas, so I told the SO that I was taking her to a nice B&B for 7 days up near Lubbock/Texas Panhandle area.
I told her we leave Wednesday morning (12/26) for our drive there and need to pick up the rental car at the airport down the road (SAT) due to my car being on a fairly low mileage lease.
When we get to the airport, she will be surprised with a vacation to LA and Catalina island, with a full weekend stay at the Beverly Hills Waldorf Astoria, complete with a spa package.
I originally had the trip set up with plenty of funds set aside just in case Michigan made it to the Rose Bowl (she loves going to games), but since they won't be there, I had this as a plan B.

Catalina ?! In December?! Do you not like her?

Usually go with a new Lexus or Mercedes with a big red ribbon, but thinking about a new red suv for her and a black pickup for me. For some reason I’m a little concerned she’ll have an immediate attraction to the pickup so might cover my ass and buy an extra pickup and hide it behind the butler’s living quarters.

You've been watching too much TV.
I did the new truck thing last year, I think I'm covered for a few more... Right?

The ultimate escape....isolation float tank gift certificate. She expressed an interest in it before.

I bought my wife two bottles of perfume and then badgered her for more ideas. She wanted a new entertainment cabinet for our living room, I found someone who restores old natural wood cabinets in their garage. My wife loves old restored furniture and we have a few items throughout the house. I put the order in and picked it up. This cabinet weighs about 300 lbs. so I will need my son to move it in the house after the tree comes down.
Her birthday is mid January, so I am looking for birthday ideas now..............
