Why would we be in the market for a new OC?  We just went 10-2 with our only losses of the season being against an undefeated #3 ND in the first game of the season (on the road, at night, with a new QB) and the second most talented-laden team in the country (also on the road).

Our offense is top 25 by most rankings. And that's with sophomore WR and a line that came into the season being considered a massive weak point.  What the offense needs more than anything is another 2-3 years in the same system without constantly changing its scheme and focus.  I get firing Drevno because the offense sucked last year (JOK caveats notwithstanding), but why would you ever shake up the staff on a team that produced this year's overall results?

And, before you say "but OSU," we scored 39 points in that game, playing about a quarter with our back-up and third string QB.  That should be enough to win the game when you have the #1 D in the country.  Sorry - our offense is not the problem.

Look 10-2 is good, but we just beat the teams we should beat and that was it. Our red zone offense was awful all year and the osu 39 points were a mirage. You do realize Maryland put up 51 points against them right? I’d be fine with the offense if for once this past season, they started the game off throwing the ball to set up the run game. I don’t recall seeing that happen. Adapt to the game being played. You cant manball every team

From Bruce Feldman: "Pump the brakes on the Kliff Kingsbury to USC talk. His agent Erik Burkhardt just told me “it’s premature to say that any decision (by Kliff) has been made.”

If I'm Kingsbury, I try to carve out a career like Don Brown or Brett Venables. Don't worry about all the bullshit you have to deal with as a HC, find a situation where the HC understands you're one of the best in the business at that side of the ball and gives you free reign to do as you please. Venables is making $2 million a year, which is more than enough to do anything you could want to do. Why add unnecessary pressure and responsibility?

However, USC and the hot seat that Helton is on is not a situation I'd have tied myself to.

Venables, currently 47, was only 36 when he was first nominated for the Broyles award as a DC, and has been a DC for 14 years now with no HC stops. That's why I used him as the primary comparison.

I only brought Brown up because he's been a high-level DC for the past 10 years after spending some time as a low-level (DI-AA/FCS) HC without ever moving up to a truly high-pressure Power 5 job; Kingsbury wasn't great as a HC for Texas Tech, which is why I think he should go back to being an elite OC where he can make a lot of money without the pressure of running the whole program.

The argument is basically, long-term it's better to be an elite coordinator than a mediocre-at-best head coach.

Not to thread-jack [as I possibly am doing], but do we have a spot to move Jay Harbaugh to and bring Mike Hart in as the RB's coach? As far as I understand it now, it looks like this on the offensive coaching side:

Passing Game Coordinator / QB's - Pep Hamilton

WR Coach/ Assistant OC(?) - Greg McElwain

RB Coach / Special Teams - Jay Harbaugh

TE Coach - Sherrone Moore

OL - Ed Warinner

If Pep Moves on (as discussed) Could we move QB's back to Jim, PGC to McElwain, Jay specifically to Special Teams and Add Hart on the offensive side of the ball to replace Jay?

Well, when you're not bowling, you can move more quickly. I mean, we're stuck with the status quo at least another five weeks. Slim pickings by then.

Though maybe we can get Dan Enos for good

I think our offense did fine. I think we need to do more passing given our talented WR and QB. I hate when Harbaugh runs Higdon into the line on 2nd and 9 or 3rd and 6.  I think if we would passed more teams will not hold their secondary close to the line and the run game would open up more.

I hope we get a new OC, not a passing game coordinator, but one guys who runs the offense and JH gets out of the way. (probably never happen).  Our offense is archaic and can't remotely keep up with the top teams in college football.

I'd love to see a young innovative guy from a lower tiered school come in shake things up and help us get to 500-600 yards a game and 40+ points.  The rules of the game favor the offense and I don't see that changing any time soon.

The offense we should be running is the spread they ran in Lloyds last game against Florida.  It was a fluid offense that was very balanced and could be explosive.
