Agreed.  I’ve been watching Michigan football, closely, since 1973 when I was a freshman at Michigan.  I don’t think I’ve seen as dominant a group as what we’ve got now during that span.  1997 was good but I think these guys are different and across the board better.  Much more depth.  Defense won the games in 1997.  Michigan had  an average to slightly above average offense with a shut down defense.  As they say, defense wins games and offense sells tickets.

Some fun stats.

Hornibrook (WISC): 7/20 (35%), 100 yds, 1 TD 2 INT
Lewerke (MSU): 5/25 (20%), 66 yds, 0 TD 0 INT
Combined Stats: 12/45 (27%), 166 yds, 1 TD 2 INT

Should've covered Lewerke out of the backfield. Other than that, and a piece of sloppiness here or there, no complaints. What a performance.

Remember, we had a great defense in 16 and beat MSU. But MSU was moving the ball on us early and late. This MSU team, which will finish with a better record (though with Davis gone it's going to be a slog) was hopeless all game. The Evans fumble was literally the only chance they had to accomplish anything.

And with Gary still hurt at that. This D is becoming really, really good.

This Defense is unbelievable. And we are without Gary. Future is very bright. This feels like what they did to us during those dark days. Absolutely destroyed them. DB is amazing.

94 total yards. 0/12 on 3rd down. Lewerke was 5-25. Can’t ask for anything more than that. Played to their reputation today and then some.

Except for some dumb penalties, especially late, this was one of the best defensive performances I have seen since either the 2016 or 2006 seasons.

Gave up under 100 yards of total offense. Would’ve shut Sparty out if they weren’t gifted a turnover inside our 10 yard line.

What isn’t to like? Don Brown is a mastermind. Can’t wait to see what he cooks up for Penn State.

Imagine what this defense would be like with a healthy Gary!  I think State may have had more yards in penalties (some questionable) than actual offense.  I was not keeping track, but I do not think there were many first downs the entire game for Sparty.

Amazing. Uche filling in a big way with Rashan down. Coverage was great all day and luckily Lewerke misfired in the rare opportunities a receiver was able to get open.
