Harbaugh Presser annoyed w/ Angelique
Harbaugh a little more testy this week in his presser!! This dude is laser focused. Love it.
angelique question comes around 11 minute mark

Now let's get you hitched up & do it again!

I thought his answer last week was interesting, when he admitted that Pep calls the majority of the plays. I don't think we've heard that from him before.
October 16th, 2018 at 8:58 AM ^
Yeah that was very enlightening. I think Herbstreit said something like "nice playcall from Pep Hamilton" during the game too, so they must have read the presser too.

The play calling thing is just dumb. That horse is dead and the corpse savaged. She has stated she doesn't like the fact that he doesn't have a named OC. She knows he hasn't, doesn't, and won't. So why ask?
That said, I like Angelique. I think she does a good job overall.
The reporters hate Fort Schembechler. It is what it is. They have a role.

Asking Coach for injury information mid season, during a rivalry week nonetheless, is like asking him for the depth chart in early August.
By now, all people should know, there are some things he’s just not going to give you. And in all honesty, Coach isn’t a doctor, and things could change in a week’s time.
October 16th, 2018 at 8:29 AM ^
I feel like I need to point out that, historically at Michigan, we've never handed out the depth chart - at least not one that was meant to do more than placate people - in the middle of October either.
October 16th, 2018 at 10:00 AM ^
That's not true. There were weekly depth charts during the Lloyd years. He may have occasionally done the OR thing at QB/WR/RB, but there were definitely depth charts.

We need this frustration taken out on the field on Saturday!

Angelique needs to stay in her lane
October 16th, 2018 at 6:23 AM ^
God I hope you are kidding.
October 16th, 2018 at 7:23 AM ^
Did you cry after Cam Newton made a joke about that racist female Panthers reporter?
October 16th, 2018 at 12:55 PM ^
I totally assume he has to be.
October 16th, 2018 at 9:32 AM ^
I would say a reporter's job is to gather information to, you know, report.
I would say based on that, she was maintaining her lane quite well.
Jim has the right to answer or not answer any question he pleases, just as she has the right to ask any question she pleases.

Angelique is doing her job and usually does it very well. Relax.
October 16th, 2018 at 7:58 AM ^
Someone photoshop Harbaugh's face over Marshawn Lynch saying "I'm just here so I won't get fined."
October 16th, 2018 at 9:59 AM ^
The week before a big game, I’d be perfectly fine if JH walked up to the podium, smiled, nodded his head, said “thanks for coming” and walked out.
October 16th, 2018 at 8:16 AM ^
Although I've never seen or heard it for myself, I've heard Angelique has a tendency to try getting under our coach's skins (maybe she does that with MSU coaches too, I don't know). Someone on a previous thread mentioned that she and Carr got into a little spat back when he was still coaching here.
Not faulting her for being nosy. She's a journalist. That's her job, and you don't go into that business to make friends. Especially these days. But Harbaugh has no obligation to tell her much of anything. Especially not anything that gives MSU something to work with. I for one appreciate the no bullshit, business-like mentality he has going into this week.
I think after this game has ended two of the last three years, all he wants to do is go to East Lansing, crack some skulls, get the W, and go home.

Sports journalism isn't real journalism though. In the end, it's free marketing and advertising for sports teams (which also happens to attract more clicks/newspaper subscriptions).
The coaches and sports journalists need to realize they need one another.

Sports journalism isn't real journalism?
(Pulls John U. Bacon into the frame to explain why you're wrong)
October 16th, 2018 at 10:22 AM ^
Good lord that statement is so stupid it boggles the mind. We could come up with a list of hundreds of important stories written by "sports journalists" over the years. And the general idea that "sports" occur in some sort of vacuum disconnected from economics, race, gender, law, etc. is crazy. Just look at the fact that today is the fiftieth anniversary of John Carlos and Tommie Smith at Mexico City. Yep, that was really just about a couple of guys who could run fast.
October 16th, 2018 at 7:34 PM ^
Meh, sports journalism is on the same level as TMZ and Hollywood journalism. In the end, it's all entertainment. But if you want to project grander issues on it, go for it.
October 16th, 2018 at 10:03 AM ^
I disagree. Coaches need wins, not press.
Belichick, for example, has made a living off winning, not catering to the press.
October 16th, 2018 at 9:43 AM ^
Angelique appeared to be Hoke's favorite. Often times he talked to her with a somewhat giggly, friendly banter and regularly referring to her by name (I don't recall this rapport with others). This seemed to carry over with Harbaugh, at least, in the first couple of seasons. It may have grown stale or maybe he took something personally.
October 16th, 2018 at 9:57 AM ^
I remember it the same way.
October 16th, 2018 at 9:09 AM ^
Harbaugh isn't really a good interview/press guy regardless of the questions.
October 16th, 2018 at 9:21 AM ^
They are both doing their jobs. I just think press conferences are a waste of everyone's time, but that's the deal I guess.
October 16th, 2018 at 10:04 AM ^
When you start to watch press conferences as an exercise in journalists going for quotes to go with their stories, you start to realize that it's the only reason they exist. They're not supposed to be comprehensive, tell-all conversations. This is an opportunity for people doing a job to do their job, and for the coach to do his due diligence in promoting and representing his program. If anything, the fact that they're now spectator sports of their own has made them less helpful or useful for both parties.

I've yet to jump on the Harbaugh bandwagon. But I will say this, he takes this game very seriously as does the team. I remember the RR/Hoke years where MSU was simply tougher/grittier. No more. They didn't just beat us during the RR/Hoke years, they POUNDED us. In most of those games we weren't even competitive. In '15 that thing happened. '16 we allowed the game to be closer than it should have been, which was disappointing. Last year, we beat ourselves by turning the ball over 5 times. Gotta play loose and confident and play for a full 60 minutes. We are a better team this year. Take care of the football and properly execute and we will win.
October 16th, 2018 at 11:32 AM ^
It is interesting to me how so many people believe it's all about intensity and emotion, and a failure to not getting sufficiently "pumped up" and emotional.
No.
The fundamental problem in almost every one of Michigan's losses to Michigan State has been just poor execution on fundamentals, stupid turnovers and drive/momentum killing penalties.
Do you need to be fired up, emotional and angry with righteous indignation to not whiff blocks, not commit turnovers and not commit stupid penalties?
Well, all righty then. Whatever works dude.
But frankly I think we all kind of know already that some problems are not solved with more emotion and aggression.
Instead: Preparation, focus, perfect execution, calm confidence, and application of both urgency and patience when each is required.
I could be wrong, but that's the vibe I'm getting from Michigan this time around.
This time it's business. And just like all of the other games before it, the better team is going to win.
October 16th, 2018 at 12:13 PM ^
How is this being "laser focused" more than anyone else answering questions at a presser? Answering questions from the press is part of the job, and reporters are just doing their jobs by asking many of the things fans want to know. Coaches in the NFL and college almost uniformly need to grow up and accept it. They don't have to like it, but they're not above it despite thinking otherwise.

Waiting for SalvatoreQuattro to come to her defense...

Good Lord, how many times does he have to say, "I am not talking about injuries or game planning" for them to get it? DON'T GIVE YOUR ENEMY ANY INFO !!!!!!!
