Word in the 614 among some of the defense attorney community is that Smith was Urbz' bagman - he was the national recruiter of the year after all. Urbz didn't want to know. Whether he did or not is questionable around here for all the buckeye fanboys. The continued meltdown is enjoyable for the Central Ohio UofM alumni base. #passthepopcorn
August 29th, 2018 at 7:22 PM ^
I have to disagree...just proves how jacked OSU and Meyer are. This isn't going away and will Haunt that program - which is delicious!
I heard from reliable internet sources that Urban woke up every day with the intention of firing Smith, but forgot what he was supposed to do by noon...damn that viagra for causing memory loss.
August 29th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
I just read the page. All of the Tweets from the last hour.
Zach is angry about his treatment by the media (with some justification); and he is angry at opposing/rival fans (and of course there is good reason for that but it is a pointless gesture for Zach to say it); and he is declaring something that I was writing about last night on the "OSU Releasing Documents from Investigation" thread. Zach is saying that he is going to see his charges dismissed next month. He might well be right. And after that, there will be no pending charges against Zach Smith.
I see nothing unhinged about those Tweets. I wouldn't want him doing anything like that if he were my client; but I don't see any of it as a "rant."
I can't believe that college football fans who are adult professionals and who are graduates of the universities of the teams for which they are fans, have such over impassioned views of these things. How about we wait for the September court hearing?
August 29th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
Didn't the dude admit to choking his wife in a text message?
He is a scumbag. So is anyone that defends him at this point.
August 29th, 2018 at 2:47 PM ^
He definitely has anger issues and he beats his wife, there is no “allegedly” about it...I’m so sick of the “he wasn’t charged” or “wasn’t convicted” excuse that is working it’s way into athletics
August 29th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
And by "athletics" you mean politics and society at large.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
And by society at large do you mean the criminal justice system?
I am the last person who will defend Zach Smith but I always flinch a little bit when I see items describing due process used with sarcastic quotes around them.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
We agree on this. I'm no fan of the internet lynch mob ruining lives, especially just for something a person said.
But this particular case seems different. Dude really seems like a scumbag.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:23 PM ^
From what I have observed of him, while he may not the in the Top 10 worst people ever, I think he cracks the Top 50 pretty easily.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
Probably not even one of the top 50 worst people currently in the State of Ohio. Hell, I've dated worse people.
Not sure what that says about me though.
August 29th, 2018 at 7:10 PM ^
You just said he beats his wife. So if you have proof show us? If you don't shut up. There isn't a police record for DV. The alleged DV incident is the main concern here. Some of you hear things automatically and think it must be true because the media is reporting it. Some of the things Zach has done, like affairs, ordering sex toys, visiting a gentleman's club on his own dime, all those things doesn't mean he's a bad guy. It will be interesting when this all goes to court, and all the facts come out where he didn't commit DV. Certain people might have to eat their words.
August 29th, 2018 at 7:40 PM ^
If we have proof show it? The text chain in which he admits to choking his wife is enough for me. It's pretty damning to any reasonable person.
August 29th, 2018 at 7:44 PM ^
Ok, but if all that stuff doesn’t mean he is a bad guy, throwing a picture of his kids up on twitter to both explain and his excuse his narcissistic rant does the trick. Go to bed Brutus, you are drunk.
August 29th, 2018 at 8:19 PM ^
Forget the question of whether he beat his wife. He ordered sex toys delivered to his office. He fucked a co worker also in his office. Maybe he’s not a “bad guy” but he should have been fired for those two things alone. I work in banking where bad begphavior is tolerated if you generate enough revenue. But fucking a co worker in the office is ALWAYS a fireable offense. I personal,y know 2 guys who were fired immediately for that. Idiots.
August 29th, 2018 at 9:24 PM ^
I do agree with your post about him losing his job over the affair and other things that happened in the WHAC. But it's the alleged DV that everybody is talking about, take that part out of the equation and it wouldn't be such a hot topic.
August 29th, 2018 at 10:28 PM ^
How is his text text saying he is sorry for choking her, on multiple occasions, not proof he beat her?
Do you not think that counts as DV, or do you just assume she faked what was said?
August 29th, 2018 at 11:29 PM ^
Were the 2 guys fucking each other?
August 29th, 2018 at 10:15 PM ^
I’ll be happy to eat my words when you eat a dick.
August 29th, 2018 at 11:31 PM ^
Yeah, it’s crazy how a thing called “due process” exists, right? What we really need is to go back to lynch mobs and frontier justice. Makes sense.
August 30th, 2018 at 10:52 AM ^
Due process does not apply to message boards.
August 29th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
Are you daft?
There's ample evidence he harmed his wife physically. There are photos and he admitted it via text message. There is ample evidence that he is an alcoholic with rage issues, as Shelley Meyer texted Urban. He was arrested for DUI. He slept with an Ohio State staffer and cheated on his wife.
All of the above are ways in which he harmed his own life and his children's lives.
Instead of owning that, this fuckwhistle "coach" blames the media for his downfall. He posts pictures of his children as an emotional shield for his own culpability. He lists "the Ohio State staff and Buckeye players" as the real victims of this story, rather than the wife, who he admitted to choking in text messages. He's going at Brenda Tracy, a gang rape survivor, and advocate for sexual and domestic abuse victims.
This is the mother of all unhinged rants.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
...and Urban Meyer kept him on staff anyways turning a blind eye to all of it, because he has Buckeye bloodlines and wins...
August 29th, 2018 at 4:01 PM ^
+1 fuckwhistle
I love how shithead boy is posting pictures of his kids like we should all think of the children when we accuse him of doing things he did......wonder if he thought about that when taking dick pics at the White House?
August 29th, 2018 at 7:16 PM ^
Do you ever think Zach got tired of arguing with Courtney so in order for the arguing to stop he just basically agreed with her?
August 29th, 2018 at 8:50 PM ^
Well since it was a text convo he could have just ignored so, no I don't think he just agreed with her to get her to stop arguing. You are really going through some mental gymnastics in order to defend this guy and deflect it on his wife. Probably just ought to give it up.
August 29th, 2018 at 9:27 PM ^
Well then please explain to me why there has never been any charges related to DV issues?
August 29th, 2018 at 9:49 PM ^
Police cover up. Look what happens to those who go against the football program in Ohio. (Lawyer who ended bringing down tressel) no cop is going to tamper with the sacred cow that is Ohio State football.
August 30th, 2018 at 10:49 AM ^
There have been plenty of arrests of OSU football players. Somebody did a diary post with the numbers.
And as for their handling of cases that are charged/convicted, I have seen little evidence to suggest that Urban Meyer's, or OSU's handling is any different from Michigan's.
And then there was the case of Torrance Gibson. Never charged with a crime; never arrested and indeed I think that there was never a police report. But he was expelled from OSU in a Title IX proceeding.
August 29th, 2018 at 7:18 PM ^
Photos aren't shit, hell she could of harmed herself.
August 29th, 2018 at 7:44 PM ^
Lmao right, i'm sure Zack is out there right now searching for the real wife abusers or whatever
August 29th, 2018 at 8:54 PM ^
Yes, she could HAVE harmed herself. But highly doubtful.
August 29th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
Speaking as one of the most conservative people on the board, when I see posts like this I have a hard time not thinking that your entire persona is just a sham established specifically to discredit people who aren't in line with the general A2 political consensus.
It's a rant and it's unhinged. Whether he is right or not (ha!) is irrelevant here. That twitter feed is the feed of someone with no control over himself, the feed of someone who goes to rehab for four days and flees, the feed of someone who orders $2000 worth of "stuff" to the office and carries on affairs with staffers.
It's the type of feed I would expect from someone who loses control of their impulses and abuses their wife. And if he's innocent (again: ha!) he's still being a gigantic fool. He's complaining that this is hurting his family by... hurting his family. There's a good chance he's intoxicated right now.
If he has people saying things like your statement here enabling him, he is only going to be worse off, regardless of his guilt or innocence.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:00 PM ^
"if he's innocent (again: ha!) he's still being a gigantic fool"
There seems to be a lot of that going around lately.
August 29th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
Conservative?!?! Get outta here you Nazi!
/s
August 29th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
Tweeting pictures of your kids saying, effectively, "Here are the real victims you scumbag media" is a pretty low and troubling move.
Also, for a guy who sucked at coaching yet trolled other teams/coaches/fanbases at every opportunity, I don't want to hear shit about him being mad at opposing fans.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:01 PM ^
shocked that section1 is trying to show us how reasonable and mature he is while the rest of us can’t control our emotions or put our biases aside.
your schtick is getting tired. do us a favor and go away
August 29th, 2018 at 4:05 PM ^
He is bored waiting for the light to turn while en route to deliver the pizza.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:08 PM ^
You trolling hard, “WE?”
August 29th, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
How about you post this over at 11W as M-Man.8 and get yourself some helmet stickers.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
You sound a lot like an OSU fan. No one else would make such an illogical defense of that POS.
August 29th, 2018 at 3:23 PM ^
Down in front, yea you, with the terrible comment!
August 29th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
HIs anger is misplaced. He deserves no outside sympathy. He brought this on himself with his immature and unprofessional behavior on the job.
The fact that his ex-wife has responded the way she has is a function of their toxic relationship and the way it carried over to his job and impacted others. Don't blame the world for how it perceives you when you've played into the very stereotype of your low-life situation and acted the way you did on the job.
There is no hero or sympathetic figure here. You wrote your own story, we view it through our own life experience, understanding and personal lens. You use your children as a crutch for claiming the world doesn't see you the way you want to be seen as some caring dad who worked long hours as a football coach.
You got paid very well for the privilege of representing a highly successful football program and you embarrassed its reputation with your behavior.
Urban Meyer enabled this guy because he was his mentor's grandkid.
That's the story he tells. No one argues with it. It's not that he hired this guy because he was so good at relating with super young athletes and turning them into productive college players and more importantly, great people, once they left school.
There are no tales attached to this soap opera that make that case outside of his mother's commentary. Why is that? Why isn't Zach Smith given some good word from someone, anyone other than his mother? Why hasn't anyone stepped up to say this guy beyond everything that's been reported, really is a special guy? Maybe because you gave no one outside your family reason to make that case for you.
No, he has dragged his family into this, to claim they have been damaged by this public relations fiasco. Well sir, you are responsible for that. And the fact that you keep blaming your former wife for all your issues makes you what? Certainly not a man in any sense of the word.
Whether you beat your wife or not, the allegations of that led to every other disclosure about yourself and how that reflects on your head coach and the pretzel logic that was used to keep him in that job without further punishment.
August 29th, 2018 at 4:27 PM ^
You seem to conflate criminal liability with civil responsibility.
I would be shocked if a judge in Ohio was anything but an OSU fanboy and made Zack Smith's issues go away from a criminal standpoint.
This in no way would show he's innocent or Courtney Smith's accusations were without merit.
August 29th, 2018 at 6:03 PM ^
Well the criminal case is "misdemeanor criminal trespass."
The civil case is Smith v Smith, Case No. 15 DR A 11 0457.
And in both cases, Zach Smith is basically saying; I can hardly wait, for my day in court. Public testimony.
And I have said; Yeah, that is what I like. Courtroom testimony. With lawyers, cross examination, a judge, and a court reporter.
August 30th, 2018 at 10:36 AM ^
Great. Then his ex-wife can tell the world all the steps that were taken to prevent her and the police from actually bringing charges to protect Zach Smith over time, and offer the limited argument that because no charges were ever brought for his behaviors, that they in fact never rose to the level of chargeable offenses which is now the primary defense for his conduct.
Smith worked in a high profile job and environment where public relations and personal responsibility matters in job performance and the perception of it by others, regardless of whether the boss had his back. So, how many corroborating witnesses is he going to have to support his case, period? Who will want to do that for him?
It's one thing to comment in his favor online, it's another to put yourself on the line in public testimony. Guess, we'll see.
August 29th, 2018 at 4:31 PM ^
Ha ha. Wrong. Your posts make me laugh. They say that is healthy.
August 29th, 2018 at 6:49 PM ^
Ah the lord of mgoblog returns. Ladies and gentlemen, I present the self proclaimed most intelligent commenter on mgoblog, here making his mom and Dad so proud: SECTION 1.8!!
August 29th, 2018 at 10:00 PM ^
So I live in this world. I am a criminal lawyer. I handle these kind of cases all the time. (Well domestic cases not national news cases). Everyone should be presumed innocent and it is ridiculously easy to accuse someone of a crime. I swim in a world of lies. From cop to witness to client. Mr. Smith should have been fired based on OSU’s report (he should also keep his mouth shut, but I guess he can’t). And his claims of innconece don’t work when analyzing the question of whether his boss should have fired him or not.
August 29th, 2018 at 10:17 PM ^
To be clear, criminal liability is not the same as being a jerk. Mr. Smith is a jerk and Coach Meyer was a jerk for undeniably lying for him. But if you hold yourself out to be a scion of family values, religious nonesenc.... You should be open to take the ridicule. And here we go. Earned. And should be fired. If I was Mr. Smiths lawyer I would go ballistic about his tweets.
