In this Michigan Insider podcast segment, Sam Webb details some of the responses from OSU commits and their parents in regards to the conclusion of the Meyer investigation.

All I have to say is "Wow." People on the boards on here have been talking about tribalism and complete disregard for facts and reality when your side is in the wrong and these reactions from recruits and their parents completely show that. You'd think the parents would show some apprehension to OSU, but nope

Urban is the standard in the Era of Trump

There are no core values except “me and how you can benefit me.”

There is no truth other than the value it has as a political commodity.  It’s traded in the market of public opinion. Bull market or bear?

Next up for Meyer, “McMurphy is the Enemy of the People.”

It’s not a sad day for OSU and the good alums/students who are repulsed; it’s one they’ve earned by their silent complicity.

Currently committed kids have probably told other schools to kick rocks. So it doesn’t surprise me that they are standing by the school they picked. I do think it impacts kids in future classes though.

Why would we hold 16-18 year old's and their parents to a higher standard than the OSU Board of Trustees?  They believed the same BS that Pope Urban tells recruits.  3 game suspension my ass! I'm sure they are going to miss his game day contributions against Oregon St and Rutgers, where the only decision is when to send in the 2nd and 3rd stringers.  TCU, road game, but it's his game plan.  Check all the phones of the coaches in the PB that day, guessing the Pope will have to figure out how to immediately delete all text or learn to use something like Snapface!!!!

None of this surprises me.  PSU covered up child sexual assault for decades and barely got hurt in their recruiting.  MSU wasn't hurt at all despite the Nassar + various MSU players sexually assaulting people on campus.  It's sad to say, but I'm sure a bunch of these commits + parents figure "well, it's not like my son is going to beat up his wife/girlfriend, so who cares?"  It's so hard to not get political in threads like this, but we live in a world where basic facts are often disputed as being biased, so it doesn't surprise me one bit that a bunch of people inclined to like OSU wouldn't be swayed against that by this finding.

Perfectly rationale.  Urban Liar covers up for his people and he has sufficient control of the president, BoT, and local police to keep a creep like Smith out of jail and getting paid.  They believe he can/will do the same for them.

Basically Urban provides immunity.  What about that isn't in the best interest of the young men signing up?

Meyer gives the impression of a narcissist and perhaps also a pathological liar.  He may have convinced himself that he has done nothing wrong  - which would explain his lifeless reading at the press conference and non-apology to Courtney Smith - he didn't believe what he was asked to say.

So when he's speaking to a recruit, Meyer can cover for his (in)actions regarding Zach Smith easily - it's what he does.  Of course he did the right thing all the time because in his mind, he's incapable of doing otherwise.

Not sure why anyone will think this could hurt their recruiting. Even to parents slightly concerned about this, they'll still see Meyer as a means to an end for their son. He still puts kids in the NFL and wins championships.

This will be nothing more than a blip on the radar for them. Meyer will still get just about anyone he wants.

When Michigan rolls into CBus this year and come out with a W then and only then will the needle move with their supporters and many of the recruits (and that's probably for next years class).

Winning is all that matters, beating UM is all that matters...its time to take that away from them and see how they deal. The meltdown in OIOH will be epic. Just hope UM has the helicopters ready to get the team out of there.

None of this will affect OSU. Appling, Payne, and Travis Walton have had no negative affect on Izzo. The only reason Izzo was under fire a little at the end of this past season is because he got owned by Michigan and underachieved in the tournament yet again.

Not surprising in the least. Not all, but a sizeable amount, see their kids football success and their opportunity to capitalize. So if a number of parents put their own dreams above their child’s well-being, there’s no way they care about any of this.

The fallout internally is going to start slowly at first.  Outside the program the world is, rightfully, outraged at the hypocrisy being displayed.  Inside the program they're practicing, getting ready for their opener, and trying to ignore all this.  Similarly, recruits are going through HS practices and trying ignore it all.  Both are trying to rationalize the whole situation, but it won't work.

The problem is going to come when Urban returns and then when the recruits start to arrive on campus.  No matter what Urban says or does, no matter how much a player/recruit tries to ignore it, everything that comes out of his mouth in regards to the "Core Values" is going to be seen for what it is: a complete and utter farce.  No matter how much they try, they will never be able to forget that the man pontificating to them is a liar, an enabler, and a complete fraud.  It will start as a drip, slowly building and festering in the minds of each and every player, recruit, coach and staff member.  Their coach as have outted, exposed, and is now standing bare before the world.  Mark my words, Urban WILL become a liability.

To be honest, although I am disgusted with how OSU handled the situation, I am actually quite thrilled by the result because OSU and Meyer displayed their true sociopathic colors for the entire world to see, and there is not UNSEEING that image.  In doing so, try as they might, they can no longer hide behind a front of righteousness.  OSU swallowed the poison pill, and the convulsions are going to be glorious to watch.

I am amazed sometimes at how these players and parents look at their son’s futures. If you are capable to play at OSU this means you can play anywhere. This Urban Meyer situation would certainly have to fall in the CONS side of your PROS and CONS list and I would also believe that it would certainly eliminate them from a list that I (or my sons) would have. Head coach/coaching staff and environment are super important in determining where to go.

I've hated everything osu since I was in grade school 40 years ago.  Most of that was truly just borne from the rivalry on the field.  After seeing what ofu nation and the school are really about, it's not just about a heated rivalry anymore.  That program is seriously scum of the earth.

Surprise, surprise.

The same recruits and parents that give lip service to "academics" also give lip service to "honesty" and "integrity".

Urban represents a future pay check without having to do very much of that "irrelevant" play-school academic stuff.

Hey, what's not to like?

It's not like he or his staff abused anybody I know personally . . .

If I read into any parent still supporting Meyer now, I would ask this: If Urban Meyer covered up and lied about his staff member's domestic violence, what else is he willing to cover up and lie about?

In regards to cultism or tribalism I am wondering how that is possible. I have to believe that if this happened at Michigan, there would be massive outrage internally, right?

I mean, if the exact same thing happened at M next month with Harbaugh, Manuel, Pick an Assistant, President, Board... I would denounce the university and spend the rest of my life rooting against them harder than I've rooted for them. Right? I sure feel like I would.

Would I be blinded by homerism and move to victim bashing, reporter bashing? Am I high and mighty to think this wouldn't happen at M? Are we actually better people than other fanbases? How is this possible?

Sports is such a great escape from life sometimes. This and everything else lately is only serving to confuse and frustrate the shit outta me.
