Apparently Patterson is the starter for ND
Mike from Plymouth just shared that Jim Harbaugh told a group of alumni at Weber's that #SheaPatterson will start the season opener against Notre Dame.

He said today that Hudson is ahead as of right this minute.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:22 PM ^
No surprise here.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:23 PM ^
Hudson over JBB at RT is something I've seen pop up.
EDIT: beaten to it by a minute.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
Where is it popping up?
August 20th, 2018 at 1:32 PM ^
My guess is people think it's coming from Sam Webb because they didn't read his latest Inside the Sub post carefully enough.

Here

The obscure and archaic Victors board.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
He's starting for Notre Dame, as in replacing Wimbush. #titlingproblems
August 20th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
Hopefully everyone here is aware that Patterson plays for Michigan and not ND.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
Just giving you a hard time!!
August 20th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
Tbh, I would've done the same. Lol
August 20th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
Cue the "You dont say" Nick Cage gif.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
Did anyone honestly think otherwise? Come on, folks.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
No. It's Harbaugh talking about it that is surprising.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:30 PM ^
I did. I mean, they didn't accept Jeff George's transfer so he could sit on the bench.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:43 PM ^
You probably won't have a chance to see this comment, but you're one of my favorites on here. I don't recall you itching for a fight, you engage respectfully, and you pull out some tasteful jokes every now and again. Great stuff.

Weird that after how well that Woods played last year he isn't anywhere to be seen
August 20th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
I noticed that myself. Very interesting .
August 20th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
Neither is Vilain. Which is, uh, interesting.
August 20th, 2018 at 3:01 PM ^
Mattison mentioned he was still getting used to being full go and trusting his body like pre-injury.
In both his and Woods' cases, there's also a ton of talent stacked up in front of them.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
You may as well just make this it’s own post. It’s the only worthwhile information in the whole thread.
And, as always, thanks for the insider info. I don’t know if you’ve addressed this elsewhere but how are insiders feeling about our issues with the tackles? Hard to read through the coach speak optimism.
Edit: this was intended to be a reply to umbig. 3.0 shrug emoji.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:41 PM ^
You stole this from Yoder, didn't you?
August 20th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
It seems like we hear about Marshall every spring/fall. Hopefully he puts together a strong season.
Is McGrone someone who is projected to play Mike in this defense? Can't think of anyone else other than Singleton and Anthony on the roster who can provide depth at LB.
August 20th, 2018 at 2:08 PM ^
I hope so too. To be fair we're only hearing "in the rotation" (2nd/3rd string) at DT behind Dwumfour who has little significant PT and maybe Kemp who just moved inside. This is not far-fetched for a 5th year who has seen the field some.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:43 PM ^
Damn, that's thorough.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:47 PM ^
Reading this makes me wonder if things could change on a practice-to-practice basis. Turner as RB3 is pretty surprising (I thought it was just talk), and where in the world is Woods at safety?
August 20th, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
We've being hearing more about Hawkins than Woods, so that's not a surprise. Sam Webb suggested Woods should be moved to Viper.
August 20th, 2018 at 6:45 PM ^
I hadn't heard that. It would be interesting, especially because I think Woods did pretty well with his limited snaps last season.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
Ok, we're getting a serious Hudson push now. JBB is a known quantity; hopefully improved, believed to be limited to adequate. Could be promising if things are coming together for Hudson, but given the state of the tackle position it's tough to say what that could mean.
Safety, after everything, looks just like last year. Hopefully Kinnel and Metellus have made strides in their areas of weakness.
Other than Justice late last week, everyone agrees that Peters is second in line at QB right now. Good for him.
August 20th, 2018 at 2:11 PM ^
Hopefully, James Hudson is more of a Grant Newsome style revelation than he is a Nolan Ulizio experiment. Good to know that the coaches might have faith in a guy with the higher ceiling at this point, though.
August 20th, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
It's not set in stone, but this is still two weeks of practice away from the ND game. The Ulizio stuff came, as I recall, pretty close to the Florida game as all of the tackles were floundering. This seems much more solid.
Additional evidence: 1. There was a lot of hope inside the building that Hudson would make such a move. 2. JBB is more of a known quantity and the chances that he is worse than his meh-but-not-Ulizio-bad capability last year is very small.
Ulizio came out of nowhere. Hudson was a guy a lot of people had their eye on to emerge. He wasn't gifted the spot, though, and perhaps he's finally turning up the jets and earning it.
I hope.
August 20th, 2018 at 3:17 PM ^
Maybe it's worth pointing out that Ulizio is still around and probably better than he was a year ago, but not even in the conversation to start. We've seen that JBB improved from the beginning of last season. If a redshirt freshman is beating them out. we're not in such a bad place.
August 20th, 2018 at 1:53 PM ^
The big news is that it seems Gil has beat out Josh Ross. We knew the two were in a dogfight but it seemed like everyone was thinking it would be Ross. Our linebackers are going to be FAST.
A close second is Hudson over JBB. That offensive line is the best case scenario I think (barring a miracle comeback from Newsome).
August 20th, 2018 at 6:34 PM ^
The biggest news to me, if this depth chart holds, is that Hart beat out Robbins at P.
August 20th, 2018 at 7:55 PM ^
I heard that Robbins got injured and is in recovery mode
August 20th, 2018 at 2:12 PM ^
Is Luigi Vilain injured again?
August 20th, 2018 at 2:33 PM ^
Think I read somewhere that he and Paye were both a little dinged up, but nothing serious for week 1.
Hutchinson is going to be really, really good. We'll have at least 3 very good DE's next year with Paye, Vilain and Hutch.
August 20th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
Hopefully only a boo-boo and nothing long lasting.
August 20th, 2018 at 2:13 PM ^
umbig11, you are our hero!
August 20th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
I was hoping Hughes would come in and play Nickel
August 20th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
So Hutchinson's in the two-deep... sorta surprised McCaffrey hasn't passed Peters.
