Meta: Can anyone explain comment chains on mobile?
Try turning your phone sideways/landscape and scroll through. The replies offset more that way and you can see the idea. Color doesnt mean anything. Replies bump in a tab.
It's almost to impossible to tell what's what if you hold it upright. Once you see the concept in landscape, you can flip it back and see the impossibly tiny indents upright as well.
This response is truly just saying “the site is not mobile friendly”.
Nobody reads their iPhones in landscape. It doesn’t fit well in the hand and isn’t what people’s eyes are used to, plus almost every site is optimized in portrait. Having comment chains be indistinguishable in portrait is incredibly annoying.
Could not agree more. Not trying to pile on, but yet another design flaw.
First time I stumbled onto landscape I was blown away. It's such an improvement that it makes me wonder if "3.0 mobile" it's intended to be held sideways. And If so, man that's dumb.
100% Correct.
However at the moment, landscape is the only way to accurately read the comments section. Love the new site but it still needs some work.
If I had to choose what about the new site's comment capabilities, "not being able to clearly tell who replied to whom"...would seriously rank 4th on the list:
1. Metric ton of white space (hope you like scrolling!)
2. Can't edit your comments
3. Three clicks to get to the board, then scrolling to get past the stickies
4. Can't tell who replied to whom
Fourth. A major readability problem is fourth. Fuck this new site. I bet my comment is taking up your whole screen, isn't it? ISN'T IT?
Joke's on you, it's only taking up 60% of it.
But seriously - the comments sections are terrible. Even on a PC. I hate to say it, but ElevenWarriors is far beyond this site in terms of its comments section.
The best comment section IMO is on Off Tackle Empire - it's just too bad that their content is shit.
I wish they would have just gone to something simple and easy to use like Disqus. Then they could have turned off all of these awful ads and just sold our data instead.
Change preferences to desktop site. Problem fixed
Whoa. Thanks!
Except it's not scaled correctly. You have to embiggen then shrink.
How do you do that?
Embiggen then shrink is borderline Bolivia talk.
Points are frozen again methinks.
Points seemed to work for about five minutes early this week but quickly went back to the new norm, i.e. broken.
I'm on Chrome for Android. I just go up to the 3 dots at the top right corner of the browser and select "desktop site."
Wife or girlfriend or porn or hookers or all of the above. Your choice.
You, sir, are my hero
Gentleman, scholar, etc.
+1 informative
(No really, I like this way better. It's like I have the old site back almost)
My experience as a kid on Mavis Beacon Teach Typing prevents me from being successful doing any significant typing on a phone, but I haven't had too many problems at least reading the site on Chrome on Android. I simply wait until I can get to a desktop / laptop to post, which works for me because it gives me time to mull over my usually raw first takes.
Lol because that's good for engagement metrics of your user base...I can imagine the convo now..."Trust me, it'll be fine, we just have to wait for them to get to a laptop and remember what it was they were going to do."
I bet over 50% of the populous considers their laptop to just be their online bill-pay & porn machine.
Uh oh. I'm 50% underutilized then.
Thanks for the reminder... I forgot to pay my porn bill
This new site really is not mobile friendly at all. I’m sure that’s the reason why people don’t come here as much anymore.
Consider this a goodbye. I have been on this site for years, but this new site is just unbearable and has taken everything away from the site that was great. I might check back during football season to see if Brian smartened up and returned the site back to the old look and feel.
However, the odds of that happening is about 0.83%. Soooooo this is goodbye. Happy trails y'all
Bye Felicia
Can I have your mgopoints?
I don't think I've ever seen a website that was so different between landscape and portrait. I never knew if you browse in landscape you get to see everyone's (non-updating) points. And the whole thread thing makes sense.
Still looks bad though.
