Reasoning behind 2019 5 star Zach Harrison's CB to Michigan
Intro
For some background, here's 2019 WDE Zach Harrison's 247 profile, and here's a link to the original article.
Summary of Article
General info from Hole's sources
- Hole's sources say Harrison's personal inclination is for Michigan based on relationships/fit
- Same sources say that parents are pushing for Ohio State
- Penn State is running 3rd and is mentioned as a 'compromise' option
- Michigan official went well, and Hole upgrades his sources' initial assessment from 'really well' to 'A+.' There's more info in the link about who he bonded with, etc.
- Hole still not convinced enough to throw in a CB for Michigan
Evan Petzold's Reasoning for CB
- Same info as above, plus optimism from current recruits
Some Thoughts
There's a bunch of hedging in this article, which I don't intend as a critique. Harrison is a quiet guy and Hole's sources seem to be from Michigan's program.
It's weird to me that Penn State is a potential compromise destination. That seems to imply that the parents are actually down on Michigan instead of just favoring Ohio State.
Petzold's twitter bio has him graduating in '21. I've got nothing against the guy, but maybe that CB reflects some optimistic naivete.
I'll believe it when I see it.
Otherwise, I expect him to go to OSU.
No use getting excited about this sort of thing. It's better to be pleasantly surprised than bitterly disappointed.
That's where I am with Quavaris Crouch.
“Parents” to me is a code word for community.
I'll try to be respectful in my comment knowing that this is a space intended for Michigan fans. The sentiment some of you guys have towards the recruitment is just funny. Some of you are trying to spin it into this idea that Zach Harrison's favorite school is Michigan and the ONLY reason OSU is in play is because his parents favor OSU. This narrative would set up nicely if he chose OSU, for some on you claim that the kid didn't follow his HEART, but feel for the pressure of his family. None of us really know anything about this recruitment, since the kid is so quiet about it. I've read the articles and interviews of him, and I truly believe has an interest in Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State. I always thought that living 15 min away from campus was a detractor, since he would have liked to go to a school a bit further from home. As an OSU fan, I think it would suck for him to go to Michigan or Penn State...and I know there will be crazy fan who talk bad about the kid and decision (like every other fan-base has)
Fair points. I think the natural assumption is OSU because of location and that Urban is such a recruiting machine right now. It seems hard to believe that OSU could lose out so I think some people create the narrative or speculate that he likes one school or another. He may very well like all 3 equally and it just going over the pros and cons like all of us would. Obviously we tend to think that Michigan is the best choice but realistically he has great options.
Well aid! I agree, we have no idea where his heart truly lies, but in this case, as you said, proximity seems to be the biggest detriment to OSU, while typically the opposite would be true. There are pros and cons both ways, both fine schools, great traditions, big time coaches, etc. OSU has more recent success obviously, while Michigan seems to be on the rise, and provides him a nice balance of getting away from home, but not too far from home. I know I'll be disappointed if he choses Michigan, but I would never begrudge a kid for following his heart, whatever that may be.
Sam W.'s take is that OSU is the safe bet. What it will come down to is if Harrison wants to stay close to home for college it's OSU or he wants to leave it's UM. Also, mom is pushing OSU but everyone knows this.
"home for college it's OSU or he wants to leave it's UM." ....or PSU.
There's a better chance we see Santa Claus commit to Michigan than this kid.... imo
It would be great to pull him out of ...... there, but its not likely. That fan base, the one that ran Herbie out of town for trying not to be a 100% homer because of his job, would graffiti their house and kill their dog.
See! TYS!
Here we go again... as predictable as the changing of the seasons.
Doesn't matter anyway since were landing Thibodeaux and his yet undiscovered but equally talented twin brother.
Thibodeaux is going Michigan? You were joking I guess.
Maybe he just wants out of Columbus, you know see the world from a different angle and grow up his own man. Isn't that what college is all about? If that is what he wants, he will have the choice of multiple top football programs not in Columbus, Ohio.
Well if the parents are taking heat or simply not convinced that Michigan is a great program, Michigan just needs to dominate that game in columbus.
Good Luck Zach.
Sorry so many lame adults are ruining what should be a fun and exciting time for you.
Unfortunately, they've got winning to do and since everyone thinks you're the man to do it, some of your feelings have to be sacrificed. (No they don't, make the right decision for you, dude)
What they forget is he's not an adult and he should be allowed to enjoy his time too while waiting to become a professional.
Hope he finds the right place for him.
You can bet Greg Mattison won't be on the phone with him all night, talking him into going Blue... only to leave the team for the NFL the next day..... FWIW
Ya, that Mike Weber saga was ultimate sleaze.
I'm an OSU fan, and I didn't like how that played out with Weber at all. It was a very bad look. Let's just not pretend that these types of sleazy things don't happen all over.
Feel better. Watch Julius tape.
This weirded me out a bit, but a quick search of family member twitter shows a heavy OSU preference...
Kids almost always do what the mom wants. Win mom, win the game.
Unfortunate for Michigan in this instance.
If that was the case, I'd be a doctor. I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.
Not Malik McDowell though. He did the opposite of what mom wanted.
Definitely worked w/ Solomon.
Awful parenting to not support the kids wherever they want to go. My kids can go wherever they want.....except Ohio State or MSU.
Sadly I think hell follow his parents advice and go to the bad guys.

I''l just say he's not going with Michigan. There's a lot to talk about in these articles. I guess if you have a lot of time, talk about it. Don Brown,Greg Mattison, and every one else will carry one without him. Michigan can have the #1 defense with or without him. After all, who were the hot recruits with Don Brown at Boston College.
I don't care if Michigan gets him.
Not that it means anything, but my co-worker who works out with Zach told me, unsolicited, that she was upset that he was choosing Michigan over OSU. Her explanation was that he got along with the players from UM better. Anyway, that was last week, so who knows if he will change his mind.
