Michigan 27, Northwestern 19
via @cjzero, obviously
I can't. I just... I can't. Thank you, Northwestern, for being Northwestern.
Consider this an open thread to celebrate(!) a victory(!!) featuring multiple touchdowns!!!
(Shhhhhhh, don't ruin it by mentioning the multiple overtimes part.)

is damn fast for being 240. Smith looked good too. Finally, an average run game against a below-average defense!

Green was great. So nice to see some positive yards! Was Toussaint injured or did they just finally decide to see what Green could do?

Yeah, Brady Hoke is getting fired and replaced by one of these ten people... because Ace said so.

I'm sure if this was a higher stakes game, Fitz would have played. But at this point, the season is pretty much lost, Fitz still can't block anyone, they hadn't rushed for positive yards in weeks, and we have two freshman backs that could use some game reps. Since you can't do any worse, why not play them.
Personally, I'd make Fitz third string and run the freshman the rest of the season. It'll be more beneficial for next season.

Hoke said Toussaint didn't practice much this week because of an injury "I would say Fitz is still our tailback"

Leave Green, Smith and Justice in. Fitz has had his chance to prove himself worthy. Didn't cut the mustard all year long. Great effort coming back from a terrible innjury. He just needs to be a leader from the sidelines for these younger guys the rest of the year.
November 16th, 2013 at 8:13 PM ^
Sucks that he's a senior and this is how it ends, but he hasn't hit the hole strong all year and can't block anything at all. The game reps they can get the freshman will pay off huge next year.

Hasn't hit the "very small crease periodically created by the offensive line"
November 16th, 2013 at 9:35 PM ^
I mean, they aren't huge gaping holes, but there's been plenty of holes picture paged here where Fitz has opted to go elsewhere, or just been too hesitant to hit the hole, and that delay caused the hole to close. He's had plenty of runs that could have gotten like 1-2 yards that he's turned into -1 or -4 yard runs. The last two games, Green has looked like a better option at RB than what we've been used to seeing.

If they switch back to Fitz after this game, I will be livid. I feel for the kid, I really do and I want him to succeed but he's just not cutting it, plain and simple.

So we should never run the play again? All successful plays should be permanently scrapped?
November 16th, 2013 at 9:19 PM ^
No, but there should be a counter in the playbook to take advantage of other teams overreacting to it. Seeing as those types of counters don't seem to be a large part of the scheme, it isn't unfair to assume there won't be one next week.

you're a worn groove.

Green indeed has nimble feet and a quick burst for such a big dude, but I figure he'll get caught from behind quite a bit. He just doesn't have big-time breakaway speed from what I can tell. That said, I like how aggressively he hits the holes (amazing to see holes from this line!), and he seems to have solved that going-down-too-easy-on-first-contact problem we saw early on. We won't need 80 yard TD runs if we can grind out 80 yard drives and continue to play good D consistently.

I thought the same thing; special teams did not suck. Although it helped that NW's punter did

Refs who understand how to promptly spot a ball and signal ready for play. If I were Wisconsin, I'd be sending that game tape to a certain crew for training purposes.
