Maybe next year but not this season.
November 16th, 2013 at 1:53 PM ^
There is also no reasonable result that will get the "fire everyone" everything is terrible type to change their minds.

Sound and fury signifying nothing

What's funny is that this debate is not even about "do we have an elite coaching staff to match OSU"? It is "do we have a solid upper end coaching staff to match MSU and Wisconsin"? Hoke is safe I am sure. I do think if UM gets blown out at EL and Columbus next year the seat will be roaring hot in 12 months. And I do expect those 2 things to happen with our OL next year.
It will be a very interesting time for Brandon because 2015 is finally the year the OL will have depth and this should no longer be a meme, and the defense while suffering losses at LB in 2015 should be prime time. So if Hoke is canned the next coach walking in should be in a great position if Morris lives up to half the hype in 15. The question is will the alumni and donors be howling with what I think is going to happen in 2014... a 7-5ish record with major losses to our 2 key rivals.
November 16th, 2013 at 1:37 PM ^
Not bad. 12 plays and 75 yards and Illinois makes it a three touchdown game again. Illinois is getting about 4.4 yards per snap off on Ohio State's defense right now, which is only slightly lower than what Ohio State normally gives up. Then again, Illinois' offense - despite not being terribly dynamic - is showing occasional life.

I'm watching VT-Maryland. It's a glorious 7-7 crapfest full of turnovers, missed field goals, and a punt return TD.
November 16th, 2013 at 1:46 PM ^
UCF could be blowing a BCS birth as they trail Temple 21-19 at the half. Yes other teams do play poorly against bad competition. This is same UCF team that nearly took out South Carolina.
November 16th, 2013 at 1:55 PM ^
THat conference has a locked in BCS berth which is pretty hilarious considering that when that was agreed to, probably 75% of the teams in the conference were not in it.
November 16th, 2013 at 1:49 PM ^
that half made the first half against IU look short
November 16th, 2013 at 1:55 PM ^
They let Purdue score 3 touchdowns!

November 16th, 2013 at 2:03 PM ^
Yep if not for those buffoon refs they'd have 1 loss, and to a top 3 team. Impressive not missing a single beat with the coaching turnover. You can say what you want about Bielema but the guy stocks cupboards. We shall see how they do in the next 2 years because for now the doubters will say new coach is doing it with someone else's players.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:07 PM ^
True, but Gary Andersen took over at Utah State when they were an EMU level of suck and went 11-2 in his fourth and final season there (and the two losses were by a combined 5 points). If he can maintain Wisconsin's usual level of recruiting he'll be just fine.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:12 PM ^
I agree. They don't seem to have missed a beat. I am giggling to self seeing some comments earlier inthe thread saying "You only want to aspire to Wisconsin? and its 3 Rose Bowls in a row*!?" and "Hoke did great his first year too". So much denial everywhere. It is like people are just reading stats and not watching any games with these teams in them and see the gulf....it's called the eye test.
Maybe Wiscy implodes in 2 years under Anderson, who knows but yes I'd be very happy to be Wisconsin right now and be 2nd fiddle in the Big 10 to OSU. It would be a massive improvement from current state and at least would take us back to the Carr/Tressel era. Matching OSU at this point is a 5 year battle cry at this point - we are many steps away.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:35 PM ^
MSU went 6-7 in Year Three of the Mork Era. His defense wasn't good that year either. In Year Four they won 11 games. Why can't UM do that?
UM will return a plethora of experience on both sides of the ball next year. They should be significantly better. Add to that the fact that MSU, ND, and OSU will be younger in spots and things could be different next year.

When will the Wisconsin head coach job emerge from the shadow of the Barry Alvarez days...
November 16th, 2013 at 2:03 PM ^
We'll find out if that's true in the Big Ten Championship game.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:06 PM ^
Wisconsin is definitely the clear #2 in the Big10, but the Sugar Bowl will probably have a choice of either Fresno or UCF. Wisconsin will not be an option.

These early games are just awful. I don't have the BTN down here, so I'll have to follow the game on the mgoblog live event. I guess I can watch the NU vs MSU game. MSU will probably blow it. Any team that makes it to the B1G title game will get slaughtered!

Cincy 38 - Rutgers 7. Maybe the Big 10 should have stayed within its footprint and brought in Cincy. Oops, its all about the tv market. nevermind.
November 16th, 2013 at 3:11 PM ^
Would've been a great #2 rival for Ohio.
Would've liked to see Mizzou over Rutgers as well. Great rival for Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:09 PM ^
Watching functional O lines makes me sad. Wisky has a bunch of 3 star guys looking like a pro team. O line is by far IMO the hardest position to project for high school kids. Just so much growing to do yet.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:12 PM ^
They also 3 RS Juniors, a senior, and a RS sophmore starting. A bit of a different situation.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:15 PM ^
November 16th, 2013 at 2:19 PM ^
shh... dont let facts get in the way of a meme. Old line, young line. 2 pro tackles, it doesn't matter.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:24 PM ^
The facts would be that comparing a line that is on average about 2 years older at every position that Michigan's is incredibly stupid.
Wasn't someone posting about that vaunted and improving OSU defense with all this great depth. This will be the 6th time this year they have given up at least 3 TDs. 4 of those were against terrible offenses.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:32 PM ^
Nope the guy said Wisconsin had a nice line full of 3 stars coached up. You retorted with a response of how experienced Wiscy OL was. The guy said well then what is the excuse for the 2012 UM line which was experienced. You ignored that and returned to the youth of the 2013 line. So we are awaiting your response on the 2012 UM line vs Wiscy's 2013. Oh I know - RichRod couldnt recruit (despite UM >>>> Wiscy recruiting classes each and every year). Or it was was RichRod's fault that the 2012 line, with 2 years of the new coaching staff was sucky. Or - (insert other excuse).
November 16th, 2013 at 2:34 PM ^
The issue is the 2013 o-line. The 2012 o-line was not where this bad. Again you are seriously comparing a line full of basically juniors and seniors to Michigan's. Wow.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
That is incontestable. The man hasn't done a good job here at Michigan.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:14 PM ^
November 16th, 2013 at 2:22 PM ^
Michigan may be the third worse team in the B1G. Even youth cannot explain this fact away. I think the gophers would beat us if we had a rematch.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:27 PM ^
So now we are going to games we won by 29 points and saying what we should have lost that???
November 16th, 2013 at 2:29 PM ^
Look at how we're playing now, and look at how they're playing now.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:28 PM ^
UM should have defeated both PSU and Nebraska. They were the better team in both games. If not for the catastrophically bad playcalling vs PSU and the equally catastrophically bad OL play vs Nebraska UM is sitting at 8-1.
It's because UM is talented that makes this team so infuriating.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:58 PM ^
November 16th, 2013 at 2:19 PM ^
to jump FSU. IL scores again and are within 14 points. OSU wanted to win 70-0 to impress the pollsters.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:24 PM ^
Me either.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:49 PM ^
November 16th, 2013 at 2:25 PM ^
as 51-14@ Clemson. Their lone chance to impress--MSU in the BTTG--is really not that impressive because MSU is not all that impressive of a team.
The Big Ten sucking helps and hurts OSU. It helps what is a good, but not great OSU team win every game and it hurts because no one really takes them seriously as a national title contender. Hell, Stanford might very well jump them.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:28 PM ^
The debate may be if Baylor will jump OSU. If MSU stumbles before the BIg10 title game Baylor probably jumps them if they win out. Even if MSU wins out Baylor may pass OSU.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:32 PM ^
Baylor should jump after the OSU game, and having a possibly ranked Texas at the end of the year should help. They of course have to actually beat those teams.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:23 PM ^
November 16th, 2013 at 2:38 PM ^
November 16th, 2013 at 2:45 PM ^
Wisconsin is a better team. There is not disputing that. You also must consider that Indiana's star RB is out and they also put up 28 on MSU.
November 16th, 2013 at 2:48 PM ^
Lost in the last 2 week's debacles is the fact that our defense has not been very good this year. Decent against the run, but bad against the pass, and still almost no pressure on the QB. Borges is taking his heat, Mattison deserves a littl too IMO. Just not as good of a defense as we expected.
November 16th, 2013 at 3:12 PM ^
It's not lost so much, it's just that whenever someone brings up this point, they get crucified.
