goober. Can't even want to dislike that snark. Good ol fashion stuff! BTW (is that yelling?), not referring to Hoke at presser. Even the beloved TVH is very much on the "nothing would surprise me" wagon now. Just like Mike and more to come. It's recruiting. Tends to happen, choad. (still rather have goober)

Alabama.  If it's very close--as Farrell say--and it's Bama, this could legitimately be blamed at least in part on Borges/the offensive issues, right?

Someone reliable--can't remember who--had heard from his dad that program success/direction of the program was a factor in the overall decision.  If so, and if it's reasonable to say that the last month has impacted the view of the long-term direction of the program, then the last month could have been the deciding factor in the Bama > Michigan race for Hand.

The quotes from his dad saying it's not only about the education and they care about recent success of the football program are very concerning.  In a two horse race, that obviously favors Bama.

The voices in my head, say Alabama. I hate the voices in my head, all full of reality and what not. I just don't see him going to michigan.

Alabama, because he's going to play for a national title there. He won't get that opportunity at Michigan.

According to Alabama's depth chart, their starting DL this year consisted of 9 players in rotation.  1 SR, 2 JR, 2 SO, and 4 FR.  Hand pick's Michigan unless Saban gaurentees him sufficient playing time as a freshman and I don't see that as possibility.  Michigan's DL is young as well, however we're not undefeated nor playing the same competition.  Hand will have an easy time becoming the starter at Michigan.  Plus Peppers is on him hard to pick Michigan and shut down the same side of the field together for a few years.  51% Hand, 48% Bama, 1% Florida

why?  "Oh No! we suck again!"

Also the pessimism of the last few weeks is weighing heavily on me, so I choose to believe he is not coming here.  If he does, I'll be pleasantly surprised, if not, I won't be disappointed.

Bama. I've just got a bad feeling about this one. It seems like he's pretty high on Bama's engineering program. Why is beyond me when he could come to a top-10 engineering program at UM vs. an engineering program at Bama most of us probably assumed didn't exist up until a few weeks ago.

But its hard to look at Bama's recent successes and not be enticed. Yeah he could come here and likely start right away. But he could also be playing for national championships immediately, and have an inside track to the NFL under Saban's watchful eye.

I think the difficulty of a UM engineering degree is the issue. I don't think anybody could say bama has a better engineering program than we have. Being a college football player is equivalent to having a 40 hour job a week. I'm sure it would be hard for anybody to work a 40 hour job and also graduate at UM with an engineering degree. Bama's engineering degree is prolly much easier to obtain than a UM one. Just my thoughts

How many top ten football recruits really are so interested in academics that the opportunity to play for a national championship contender every year would be outweighed by the school’s academic reputation?

At Alabama, Da’Shawn Hand has been given the opportunity to play for one of the historically great college football programs in the country that remains one of the dominant teams in the country.  He probably can get a decent education there in engineering.  And if he’s as good as advertised, he’ll be suspending his education after three seasons at Alabama to prepare for the NFL draft.

While it would be disappointing, it would be most understandable it he passes up the opportunity to play for another one of the historically great college football programs in the country.

Considering that his one-time favorite school is stuck in a long championship-caliber drought and is in the midst of a three-year downward spiral with only guarded optimism that it will be competitive against top-ranked teams within two or three years, it would be unfair to blame Hand for choosing Alabama, even though he might be passing up the chance to be enrolled in one of the top engineering programs in the world.

Saban's going to Texaa - too much money for him to say no - it's always about the money with him.  Plus Mattison;s basic D is more sutiable for Hand than 'Bama's 3-4.  Just saying - it's as good a prediction as anyone else's.

Lots of his teammates said Michigan, but his coach is on camera pointing out that at Alabama, he'll get one or two national championships. I can see how that would be hard to turn down. A year or two ago, I thought we would be looking at a potential national championship game within the next four years also. Here's hoping he's more interested in helping restore the glory at UM! Go Blue Da'Shawn!

A lot of folks are saying Michigan, but Sam Webb is hedging a bit on his optimism. And that's unusual for him.

Academics/ Titles

If Michigan was a contender football wise, it would be a no brainer

So the question is, Is Hand truly committed to academics, or is he just saying it.

Alabama - ranked between 100-122nd for engineering

Michigan - Ranked top 10 in engineering and sports management

So if its about academics, he's coming to Michigan

If not, than Hand lied about it being academics and is going to Bama to major in football.

My Prediction - He is going to Alabama

for him to even compare Alabama academically to Michigan is a joke. So it is done.

Anytime a recruit will compare Alabama academically to Michigan, unless it is raising pigs, or BBQ, you know its a done deal.

That's what TomVH looks like? I never knew our old friend was such a snappy dresser (and, in the straightest possible way I can say it, pretty good looking).  I guess he belongs on TV and not with us.

Well this makes "hold me, TomVH" awkward, now that I've made this comment. My bad.

Hand will probably pick Alabama! I think the last month have shown him that Michigan may be years away from being an elite team. He wants the spotlight and the NC even if he has to wait a year to be a starter.

If we were having a 2011 type season  Hand would pick us, hands down! I thin even if we would have beat NU at home like we should have we may have just edged out Bama! We will just have to become a much better football team before we start attracting elite recruits.

We've all got stories about how a degree from Michigan matters, but I want to make it personal. So I'll start with the story, and then get to my point.

When my son graduated from Michigan with a degree in music, he went out to LA to compete in the big world of recording. We all know how difficult it is to make it in the music business in LA.

But he was immediately picked to be assistant engineer to a producer best known for bands like U2, The Cure, Rolling Stones, etc., on a record that went platinum. How did he even get an interview with over 50 other applicants, most of whom had experience in the business, right out of college?

The band's manager told him, "When we saw you had a Michigan degree, we knew you were serious."

So they called him to interview. A Michigan degree jump started my son's career.

The value of the Michigan degree around the world is why Da'Shawn Hand should choose Michigan.

He'll be a star wherever he plays. So it's not like he isn't going to be in the limelight whether it's in Ann Arbor or Tuscaloosa.

But the value of that Michigan degree is higher than anything Alabama has to offer.

With any luck, Hand knows this and makes the right pick. I hope someone in his camp reads this if he doesn't already have stories like this one.

I say it's Michigan.

all I heard is that Alabama might have significantly closed the gap from the talking heads.  But I never heard them say that all of a sudden they are his leader.  As much as I've heard it, I can't believe that Hoke and Co. would tell a kid that he can't go to Engineering if he wants to.  Not to mention, with Ross contributing $100 MILLION to the football program and the business school.  I think they can afford to get him an individual tutor now, if they couldn't already.

as deliberate as this kid is, I can't believe that just one visit to alabama could change all of that.  No matter how great Saban is.

This is sort of where I am at. Although, honestly, I think he will do Sports Management if he comes here. It's a very doable major and can get him where he wants to go (building a football stadium).

I am in the camp, though, that thinks that, while Alabama made up a lot of ground, I didn't heard anybody say that they were the leader necessarily. You would think you would see some people talking like that if it were the case. However, everybody seems to be 50/50 or slightly leaning Michigan.

Its Alabama.  Why would he come here?  Alabama is a national power with the best coach in the game.  Plus, if we performs there he will be a first round draft pick.  Sorry guys.
