Wife Day 2013 Part 1 Plans

Submitted by JeepinBen on

After much ANGAR, RAGE, and internet stupidity, we have arrived at the first of two bye weeks in the Michigan football calendar. So while you'll have a chance to redeem the mistakes you make this weekend during Wife Day II - Wife Harder, your main excuse to sit on the couch and watch football this Saturday is going back to the drawing board, working on fundamentals, and getting ready for Minnesota.

So, what are you doing this Wife Day?

(Interlude on the history of the bye week being called "wife day" around these parts:

Six Zero's coining and epic preview: http://mgoblog.com/diaries/preview-wifeday-2010

Wife day 2011 content: http://mgoblog.com/category/tags/2011-wife-day

And JamieMac's case against "wife day" as an entity: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/war-against-wife-day)

So, what's your wife day going to be? Building capital so that you can spend it in order to watch the Michigan games in future weeks? Going to a wedding from your friends who still suck because they're getting married on a fall saturday - but don't suck that much because they picked a bye week? Watching football because it's a fall saturday? Or you're not sure if you'll have enough time?

I'm actually a little disappointed that I'm the first on the thread to be planning one. Isn't anyone tempted to see a stadium they've never been to before? {Ed.--I missed the NIU/Purdue plans above. I feel better now....]

I'll be driving up to Springfield, OH for some division III football. It's not everyone's cup of tea but for me there's something refreshing about a game that looks like this. No hype, no media timeouts...just two and a half hours of football.

Oberlin hasn't beaten Wittenberg in 59 years. Not expecting that to change this weekend. But you never know....

since it's only  4 games in and 2 were at night, but I'm doing the standard Fall pumpkin patch, apple picking, hay rides... Should be fun, especially for the kid.

I guess that means no day games on Saturday...

I get my first full-sized paycheck from my new job this Friday.  After the UVA game at 12:30, I plan to celebrate payday by taking a big step toward living in the modern age and buying a big, shiny new LED TV which will put my current 36" CRT to shame, and a Blu-Ray player.  Then I expect to baptize the new setup with more football and Blu-Ray Game of Thrones.

It's my GF's birthday. Her family knows my insane passion for Michigan athletics so the other day her mom called me about the vacation we just got them and I thanked her for having her daughter born on a day where her birthday would fall on a bye week. They think this is very funny.

So the weekend will start with our annual everyone come over on Thursday drink and watch football. Friday is going out on Bardstown road. Saturday is going out at Fourth Street. Then Sunday is her birthday which I have planned, apple picking, dinner, and going to see Dracula the play. Lots of alcohol, sex and no shopping, I avoided the Art thing going on in town Saturday morning. Her friend is going with her yes. I will win 63-0. I will remain undefeated on wife day when faced with an actual real opponent.

The alumni club goes to Mulligans for bigger games like Notre Dame, MSU, and Ohio. We also do a number of other events, and becaues we are a small club we do not really care if you are actually an alumnus. We have a facebook page you should check out, too.

email me: peeeeete at umich dot edu for more

Also, get out of this godforesaken town as soon as you can

Well John the manager from the Frankfort (50 minutes east of you) B-Dubs is a Michigan fan/transplant who recently moved back to Louisville to manage one of the 2 stores there (sorry dont know which one, but you got a 50/50 chance).

He always made sure the game was on at least one of the bigger TVs if the wife and I stopped in.

that it is wife day.  Does he need to buy a gift?  He works days on Sat and Sun.   The 8 year old has a football game at 3 on Saturday.  I will be checking out his Linebacker skills.  I was thinking of having some friends over to watch football Sat. night. and have some snacks.   What is the marquee game this weekend?

Laying grass seed in the back yard. Getting my hair cut. Going to a wedding for which they are apparently requesting that people don't dress up. It's going to be wicked.

Taking my two kids to a pumpkin patch with my brother and his two kids. All are under the age of five. Once we wear them out, hopefully we can watch Ohio lose.

Let's all get our frustrations out. We'll scheme up our teams, we got a few days to practice. Then, on Saturday, we spend 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM really going after it.

Because I thought of it, I get the first two picks. My first pick is Brian, and not just because he sets the rules, but also because I just found out he's 6'2" which gives my team some good height.

Second pick, I'm going with Magnus. I envision him with a beard. Need a guy with a beard on the team, its fundamantal with these sorts of games.

The Mgowife and I are going to see friends of ours for brunch, and later Saturday we'll do dinner with the family for my niece's 8th birthday (she'll be UM class of 2027, 3rd gen of the family). Somewhere in there I hope to finish watching the first season of Orphan Black, an awesome little show my bro-in-law introduced me to recently. Anyone that likes good TV should check that out.

Scheduled for prime college football viewing time (1:30-3:30 central) at a venue that doesn't have TVs.  My wife was willing to push the party to the bye weekend.  I feel a little bad for the other dads that are fans of other schools, but not that bad.

Coaching my 5th/6th grade youth football team to victory and then headed up to West Lafayette for the Purdue/NIU game. Even though I am a Purdue grad, my best friend starts for NIU... so go Huskies! That and I grew up hating Purdue athletics..

We're in Cambridge, Ontario and we're driving over to Fort Erie to have dinner at a haunted restaurant and take a ghost tour.  I'm a nerd for such things.

I've also somehow convinced her this is her idea, which makes things even better.

Prior to this I assume I'll be doing household chores.

Any Canadians out there know anything else to do in Fort Erie (or Americans I suppose as well)?

I was at the gym on saturday and they randomly had a Gryphons game on....  I want to say they were playing either Western or Mac and holding their own. If I recall correctly thats pretty good, since both have strong programs (again, I could be completely wrong... not a big CIS guy)

Wife Day this year will be spent eating pizza - we are coming of the first cycle of the 17 Day Diet and plan to have one massive cheat day on Saturday. It has been nearly three weeks of chicken, fish, vegetables and little to no alcohol, so a very simple celebration of beer and pizza is in order before we move onto the second cycle, which will actually let us have bread-type things again.

My hubby is choosing to work on Saturday since Michigan isnt playing. I will be working on making two quilt tops  this weekend.

A Michigan one for our family and a Spartan one for my 14 year old Nephew with Autism.

Taking the wife to the squash world championships Friday evening, then out to a bar with friends.  Saturday it'll be a long engagement celebration for one of our friends with BBQ (and hopefully with a TV showing football nearby).  Sunday a bit of cleaning and work.
