No All-State Goal Post Nets in 2013 Season
I was so pissed about the potential for adverstising in Michigan Stadium, I sent off an email to my contact in the AD requesting clarifcation.
He confirmed that there would NOT be All State nets in the 2013 football season. Unfortunately, he did leave the door open for the future.

How will we know if our kicking game is in good hands or not??

get a red card for illegal use of hands or touching of the balls or some such Euro-rule.
August 15th, 2013 at 6:12 AM ^
It might just be me, but I would rather think the kicking game is in good hands than have the State Farm logo up there, as then our kicking game would apparently need to "Get To A Better State". The again, watching some of the drill involving Lewan, Schofield, Pipkins, Washington and some others, it seems like we might have "All Your Protection Under One Roof".

We just need a video projection on the net of brunettes at the beach, with some obviously engaging target in the middle.

Well thank goodness for that. I would HATE to see Allstate Insurance get advertising space in Michigan stadium. It would be.....wrong.

Does anyone harbor anything other than utter disdain toward the trainwreck that is the Flow series of commercials, and the trainwreck of an annoying persona that is her character?
Makes me wanna puke.

I'm glad that we've encompassed the trifecta of oogling over brand new five star hotel athletics facilities, complaining about ticket prices, and complaining about the possibility of advertising ALL on one board.
August 15th, 2013 at 7:34 AM ^
Well that's kind of expected, isn't it? The whole college athletics / money being spent on it thing is just getting out of hand. 225+ million for stadium suites for the wealthy, ever-better athletic compounds built, and then the inevitable corporate intrusion of advertising to help pay for it all.
I fully expect ads to make their way into the stadium at some point, and eventually they'll be selling ad space on uniforms, not unlike you see on pro soccer teams.

This is Michigan, fergodsakes.
August 14th, 2013 at 11:42 PM ^
should just create a MGoComplain board on its own so all AD-related topics can go there since it's a guarantee any move the Athletic Dept. makes will have incessant bitching about it

No you can't...we still are in supposed panic mode due to our young interior OL. Insurance ads + young OL = 2 more weeks of panic.

unfortunately I cant complain about this as it has lead me to recieve 2 tickets to four home games of my choice every year now....starting with 2013. ND, OSU,NEB and MINNY for free!

Umm... this has my MGoLawyer senses ringing.... Shouldn't this be confidential? I can't imagine they signed a license agreement without even a standard confidentiality provision that should prevent these types of disclosures except to officers, directors and employees "on a need-to-know-basis" until such time as the information is allowed to be released. If so, as a fellow MGoBlogger, I would recommend that you do not share confidential information on the internet (I don't want you or your colleagues to get in trouble for breach).

Every single year (for 7 years now) I have asked why our nets didnt have the Allstate logo on them. The years that ND had them I would get the @ ND tickets for us. I simply got a phone call saying great news Michigan is adding the nets in 2014 and now you can recieve tickets. Being an agency owner, means I am as low on the totem pole as possible in terms of corporation tactics and decisions so if I know, alot of other people do as well. But thank you for bringing it up.

For example, in the new world order presidential candidates must answer the question:

- briefs
- thong
- commando

"Tradition Field"......The "tradition" of selling so much advertisements on our scoreboard, that it is nearly impossible to see the score!
August 15th, 2013 at 4:10 PM ^
No need for the quotation marks, advertising in the outfields of baseball stadiums has been around since the dawn of the game. I know we think the "good old days" were so pure, but commercialization of sports has occured forever. The Big House has been a rare exception to this point.
For instance:

I remember Northwestern had the All State nets with a State Farm billboard visible right behind that, thought that was a pretty smooth move.

While we're at it, lets remove "Wilson" from the footballs because advertising, also I'll take my Coke in a red Solo cup, err wait a second just a dark cola drink in a red cup. Also, better make sure we stop those pesky planes from flying overhead in Big House air space. Hell, better make sure we cover up the John Deere logo on the med cart, and make sure all cars parked on university property are debaged both for "pimpness" and advertising reasons.
Seriously....as far as "advertising" goes the nets are really small potatos.
August 15th, 2013 at 9:38 AM ^
The bevvy cups from years past had Pontiac logos, Coke logos, now they have Coke and Sodexho logos. Plenty of corporate names/logos on the pillars in the concourses (Marathon Oil comes to mind). The ATM's are brought to you by Huntington Bank. Actually, U-M has been very aggressive in keeping the air traffic to a minimum, citing FAA/Homeland Security concerns...which never seem to be a problem at Super Bowls over the past 10 years...but the AD can then cut out that free advertising for which they seem to think they're owed a cut.

There was a "Maize Out" against Wisconsin, and AT&T gave away tens of thousands of t-shirts. Probably wouldn't happen today, since the AD's brilliant HAIL program will give a student a free maize t-shirt AFTER the student attends all 6-7-8 home games (on time), >12 home basketball games, >8 home hockey games and >6 non-revenue producing games. They wouldn't want AT&T horning in on their incentivization!
