247's Steve Lorenz player predictions for Michigan recruits
Obvious disclaimer: much can happen before signing day. They are predictions, but they do look promising.

No prediction for Mcdowell?

6 other 24/7 analysts all have Michigan as their prediction, including several in the last week. Especially fun when one of the Bucknuts guys is calling it. FSU analyst is one of them also, so it's not just midwest guys blowing smoke.

...Is an elite SEC-level DL. Coach Mattison wants to get pass rush with 4, he's certainly recruiting the talent to do so.
April 15th, 2013 at 11:52 AM ^
That's a Michigan level DL. Expectations raised.

nah nah na na!

In fairness, 6 of the 7 others who predicted where Hand would go - most of whom are more national/objective/credible than Lorenz - predicted that he'll end up at Virginia Tech. Rivals' Mike Farrell also said this morning that as of today he thinks VA Tech is #1 for Hand (and Michigan is #2).
April 15th, 2013 at 12:22 PM ^
And we end up with Harris, Hand, Peppers, and McDowell....I think Dantonio would have a nervous breakdown.
April 15th, 2013 at 12:26 PM ^
I think all of college football would have a nervous breakdown if we got all those guys.
April 15th, 2013 at 11:36 AM ^
While I certainly hope he's right, Lorenz has historically been more bullish than accurate when it comes to predicting that recruits will come to Michigan.
April 15th, 2013 at 11:42 AM ^
He can't always be right. It's called a prediction for a reason. He did predict Derrick Green way back when everyone else counted us out.
April 15th, 2013 at 12:19 PM ^
Taylor Lewan looks so different without his pads on.
April 15th, 2013 at 11:55 AM ^
Granted he was correct on Drake Harris...just 9 or so months too early.
April 15th, 2013 at 12:01 PM ^
It's a fair criticism. It's hard not to predict optimistically when you only cover one team. Still learning, but getting better.
Still, people always remember the ones you miss, and not the ones you get right. Like Drake Harris. Oh wait.

Surprised to see Tommy Doles predicted to NW.
April 15th, 2013 at 11:50 AM ^
Things have been going in that direction for a few weeks, it seems. Doles had been considered a Michigan lean for a long time (basically since he got the offer) but hasn't committed yet, so Michigan might just not be what he's looking for. Otherwise, why wait? He would fit in well on Northwestern's offensive line, in my opinion, perhaps more so than at Michigan right now. I think Rich Rodriguez would have loved a guy like Doles with all the zone blocking schemes, which is a lot of what Northwestern runs.
April 15th, 2013 at 11:52 AM ^
Thanks for the update. I guess I just figured that the Drake Harris commitment would help in that regard.

My thoughts (and probably others), we probably have enough Guard types anyway. That's an incredible depth chart to look at penetrating in his class, especially with Cole already in. I think we need a center and more tackles.
Wouldn't blame him a bit for the school either - I was watching the NW spring game, and they showed their new facility being constructed. Right on Lake Michigan and absolutely stunning. Wouldn't mind seeing NW becoming Stanford-like for the B1G.
April 15th, 2013 at 12:02 PM ^
Well, they were/are recruiting Doles for center, so that would fit your vision.
April 15th, 2013 at 12:05 PM ^
If he is more of a zone blocking ninja, wouldn't that be a mutually beneficial decision?

Agreed. I find myself using 247 more than Scout or ESPN, and I have a Rivals subscription. Between Rivals and 247, I don't really need the other two...and I may switch to 247 before too long. I'm not a big fan of the mods at The Wolverine, and the message board there kind of sucks.
April 15th, 2013 at 12:07 PM ^
I used to really despise 247 but they're improving at a steady pace. I've been a member since they got Aquaman/Steve on board. I still have a rivals subscription but I really don't know why. I hardly ever read anything there anymore. And don't get me started on the board.
April 15th, 2013 at 12:51 PM ^
I still have my subscription to Rivals as well but wonder to myself with each passing day why (well, I guess I know why, because it's paid through Jan '14).
If people complain about the mlive-ness of the mgoboard then I have no idea what they would say about The Fort. I barely ever venture in other than to read the ITFs, and even then those are linked on the front page.
I think they lost a lot when Helmholdt left. Good for him, though, getting that Midwest Recruiting Analyst gig.
Agreed with all of this, except Scout is worth the subscription for Sam Webb, in my opinion.
I hate when people use "insider", so I guess I'll just say I feel like he knows a lot of good people. TJB...hit and miss.

To recap, here's everyone he predicted to Michigan:
- Alex Bars
- Juwann Bushell-Beatty
- Garrett Dickerson
- Da'Shawn Hand
- Drake Harris
- Daniel Helm
- Brady Pallante
- Jabrill Peppers
- Kyron Watson
- Parrker Westphal
- KJ Williams
He changed his previous prediction of Tommy Doles to Michigan, and now thinks he will go to Northwestern. Also predicts:
- Elijah Hood to UNC
- Jamarco Jones to OSU
- Lawrence Marshall to MSU

Have to admit I'd be OK with Doles going to NW. He's a solid player, but not somebody to get really excited about like Kugler last year.
We have a smaller class this year, so I'm hoping for more elite players. Seems like a good kid that will be an asset to any program, so if he does choose Michigan it will a solid, yet unspectactular, pick-up.

Everyone is 100% to OSU until Meyer deems them unworthy.
April 15th, 2013 at 12:07 PM ^
The last I heard from him he declared Notre Dame his leader. I'm surprised to see UNC up there.
He recently said that he thought about things and is leaning towards staying close to home now.
April 15th, 2013 at 11:43 AM ^
Wow, I'll take that and whatever other 13 or so guys we get. That would be fantastic.

Those predictions (along with McDowell) would pretty much finish the class, right? Also, with that quality (even though total numbers would be low) that class would certainly be Top 10 and quite likely Top 5, no?
April 15th, 2013 at 12:03 PM ^
It would probably be top ten, but if the class remains at 16 (which it likely won't, but still), then that might limit it from being one of the top few classes.
