Chesson has made some really nice plays this spring.
I'm thinking both are going to be playing significant snaps this season. Allowing Gallon to play both inside and out and Dileo to continue to terrorize from the slot.
Toss in Funchess and Butt and we could be pretty solid.
Jeremy Jackson seems like he's already been passed by the RS Freshmen.
Butt really doesn't have any competition except walk-ons for that #2 role.
I don't consider AJ Williams because I feel they play two different TE positions.
When Funchess goes out, it's porbably another WR or FB that comes in and we just go to a different formation...but I think Butt is going to be a throwback all-around TE that will make a huge impact on this team.
I didn't know if you had insiderz info. He does run over Richardson in that video, FWIW
Here's hoping my 86 jersey gets new meaning this season.
Play action was decent. Running game, not so much. Isn't the offense supposed be ahead of the defense?
The defense is usually ahead of the offense in the spring, and the spring RBs will probably be behind Green, Smith and Toussaint in the fall.
What impressed me most in this highlight was the way the defense ran to the ball, and how the secondary looked much faster and more physical and the receivers still made some tough catches in traffic.
Football? What is this sport you're talking about?
In all seriousness, thx for the highlights. I especially love the raw on-the-field sounds and sideline cheering w/o the useless banter of announcers.
Clearly looked comfortable dropping back in one of the highlights. Since this is the interwebz, I can therefore proclaim from this one piece of film: "OMG. Cleary is awesome! He's gonna push Gardner for serious PT!" It's hard evidence. You can't ignore it.
Chesson had some nice catches. This warms my heart.
Super tight camera angles suck
It's done for a reason. OSU hasn't released a single video of spring practice so far this year:
Hey Mgo whateveryournameis these days........
Arent you in Korea? If so, who's going to take over video duties for us if the Dear Leader is actually as crazy as it seems he is?
BTW.....doesnt he remind you of the short, skinny guy who goes into a bar and tries to act tough by picking a fight with a guy three times his size cause he's just SURE the big dude won't want to crush somebody that small and look bad?
Don't worry, I've got five packages of ramen, 12 beers and some snickers.
war monglers. Mongolian influence, I'm guessing.
I saw a post on an MSU board that MSU is back in the lead for Harris. It is behind a wall. Anyone here knows the story?
http://www.freep.com/article/20130406/SPORTS07/130406026/michigan-state…
MSU is pouring it on since Izzo blew his wad on Jabari Parker and lost him too.
I don't understand why we are not talking about Harris as a two sport guy emphasizing football.
Unofficial Spring Depth chart? Please let me know if something is off because if the Spring Game is a scrimmage again, I'm making my own guide to take with me with the teams on it so I don't get confused.
I'm not big on making random depth charts for no reason, but here's a few corrections:
-Black and Clark are switched
-Depth charts classically don't list 3 WRs
-Washington is a nose tackle, but I guess there's some flexibility because of Pipkins. There's not much certainty with the tackles
-James Ross plays WILL
-Cam Gordon will almost certainly start at SAM
-Blake Countess should start at corner, although I'm unsure of his injury status.
-It's likely T. Gordon will be at SS and Wilson at FS.
I agree with most of this, but Black is playing 3-tech defensive tackle. Unless something happens, he will probably start at 3-tech while Pipkins backs up Washington at NT. The SDE will probably be Heitzman or Wormley.
Sure appears that Beyer is the starting SAM. Gordon makes one appearance, on the field with Richardson and Gant (i.e. certainly second team). Sample size insufficient, but Beyer is featured often with the first team D. Including one play where he annihilates Drake Johnson
I agree with you Seattle on Beyer. All reports have been very positive about him. He has had significant playing time both his freshman and sophmore seasons and there is no reason not to anticipate good things his junior year. Mattison continues to speak highly of him and it will obviously be proved out on the field. Some folks on here have already made up their minds about him, and constantly try to put other people in his place, but he is still there on the field playing. I will stick with Mattison's evaluation.
Brennen Beyer has made 1/2 a tackle for loss in two years playing SAM and WDE. He ought to be a backup unless something crazy has happened.
QB: Gardner

but in your title you might want to add the second "M" in "scrimmage." The folks that read this blog like to see as many Ms as possible.

EDIT: And compulsive over-writer means my comment is now redundant.
Looks to me as of right now...
Lewan, Braden, Miller, Kalis, Schofiel.
Good to see Kalis is ahead of Burczinski given he is so much bigger than him. Looks like center is not solidified yet as Glasgow is also seen taking reps with the first team. Everybody needs to not panic about the Oline, they usually take time to gel and needs lots of repetitions.
can't get enough of watching football, here is to hoping that Shane/Cleary can provide good enough depth at QB
yeah, but the fact that he's getting some run is a good thing.
Apparently Gardner only throws right.
Don't like him throwing off the back foot for the Int, but I expect a huge year out of DG. Our young WR look good. Looking forward to a great season! Go Blue!
He was basically sacked on that play, anyway. The defender stopped because Gardner's wearing a red jersey. In real life, Gardner probably tucks the ball and runs, or at least scrambles to look for another throwing lane.
I thought he threw left once in this video, but there was also a highlight the other day of him throwing a fade to a leaping Chesson on the left.
Clark destroys Schofield on that first play
My impressions were first Gardner and the recievers looked good. The secondary looks more physical even if the recievers were catching balls they were contested pretty well and offhand it looks like the DBs had good position. Our defense looks pretty physical. But, we still get no push from the o-line and subsequently the running backs have no holes to run through. I know some will say Fitz, Green, or Smith will be playing RB in the fall, but they won't gain any yards either unless the o-line makes some holes. Atlhough they did seem to pass protect pretty well.
Looked to me like two of the running plays were blown when TEs missed blocks. One was Williams and one was Funchess. From the Borges interviews, it's clearly a point of emphasis, but they've got some more work to do before fall.
